WP:FOOD Needs You!

Hi there Jadeslair! I've noticed you have yourself listed as a member of the Food and Drink Wikiproject. Unfortunately it looks like the project has been slowly sliding into inactivity except for a couple of people. That makes me a sad potato, and nobody likes a sad potato amirite?

If you'd like to turn my frown upside down, can you do two small things?

First off, go here and add {{Tick}} ( Y) next to your name if you're still part of the project.

Second, go to the project talkpage and participate in a discussion about how to make the project more active, and how to go about making articles in our area of interest a lot better.

You don't want to make me cry, do you? Potatoes have a lot of eyes you know. So come on, join in! :)

TeaLover1996 (talk) 00:40, 6 June 2015 (UTC) I left an edit summary, pay attention. Dont revert my edits, discuss them since you happen to know the rules. Follow them. Do not revert good faith edits

There is no rule that says good faith edits cannot be reverted, they can and will be if there is a sufficient reason too TeaLover1996 (talk) 17:42, 6 June 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Reverting#When_to_revert part of Wikipedia:Reverting Revert vandalism on sight, but revert an edit made in good faith only after careful consideration. You did not give any consideration. Jadeslair (talk) 18:22, 6 June 2015 (UTC)

Lists of notable people

Hello. Please review WP:WTAF. Yeah, it's a pain that sometimes contributions get reverted. Assume good faith, and WP:BRD. You need to be able to indicate exactly why these people are notable enough for an article, per WP:BIO. Fighting tooth-and-nail to get the article to be more flattering isn't going to work. I've given a reason for each edit, so discuss on the talk page. Thanks. Grayfell (talk) 06:56, 27 June 2015 (UTC)

I am the only one trying to improve the article? if you want, report me. I am not trying to edit war. I suggested we take it to the talk page, then the other editor reverted me and went to the talk page. my recent edits had nothing to do with the controversy section. You can modify my edits if they are NPOV rather than delete them you know. I do an edit or a few then look at the page and improve it further, NPOV Items would not have remained. i know about weasel words and all that, you did not tag my posts though, you deleted them. not constructive. You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Vector Marketing. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. VQuakr (talk) 17:17, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

That is a serious allegation, what supports your claim. You reverted two of my good faith edits. Jadeslair (talk) 17:31, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
User:VQuakr just says ridiculous things like "NY Times map is better because it provides several levels of 'zoom'" "the info-graphic you replaced it with was not a map". I'm ok disagreeing and including both maps (I only ever deleted a duplicate map), but quakr just edit warred me 3 times on this one, deleting any mention of the washington post map.. Jurassic World

Hello. Regarding the revert you made to Jurassic World on June 16: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned.
• You reverted (here) an edit that changed information about the movie's gross. I think it's a good idea to warn such editors, otherwise they tend to continue, and the notice brings it to the attention of other editors if they do make more un-sourced or wrong edits. Nb. I have warned the editor in question. (here) and they have replied in good faith.

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. It is not about peer review. It is about using review articles. They are different. You can limit your search on pubmed to recent reviews. Best Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 02:57, 13 January 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for clarifying Jadeslair (talk) 02:59, 13 January 2016 (UTC)

There are also a number of problems with the conclusion of the paper in question "Overall, delayed DTaP was not associated with primary outcomes of food allergy (adjusted odds ratio (aOR) 0.77; 95% CI 0.36-1.62, p=0.49) or atopic sensitization (aOR 0.66; 95% CI 0.35-1.24, p=0.19). Among secondary outcomes, delayed DTaP was associated with reduced eczema (aOR 0.57; 95% CI 0.34-0.97, p=0.04)" One gets one primary outcome. If one starts adding further outcomes one needs to decrease the p value used (there are formulas for this). Because imagine if they had 40 secondary outcomes, if you used a p=0.05 you would expect by chance alone two to break that barrier. What we end up with is a fishing trip. Merger of my account with that of Usr II

Hi, Jadeslair. I am Théophile de Viau and not Usr II, as you called me here [[1]]. Somehow, Iryna Harpy managed to have our two accounts merged, but I can assure you I am not that editor. By the way, do you know how she was able to perform such an action? It had never come to my mind that such a convenient and dishonest way to get rid of someone you disagree with was at all possible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Théophile de Viau (talkcontribs) 15:09, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

An administrator can look up peoples IP's and editing behavior if someone does a sock investigation or something like that. I do not know all of the details. I will try to tag the appropriate account from now on, sorry about that. Jadeslair (talk) 15:21, 14 June 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for your answer. However, it cannot have been done on the basis of the IP since I really am not Usr II. I conclude that it has been done based on the mere fact that he supported me. As for the content, I don't think that she is interested in a serious discussion. She just won't allow any information that she deems embarassing for Ukraine to be published on Wikipedia and, judging by what she can do, she seems to have the power to do it. --Théophile de Viau (talk) 15:37, 14 June 2016 (UTC)
Wikipedia is on the side that creates neutral and well sourced content, nobody really has any power, we are a community with rules and policies. Would you like me to write up something and submit it for discussion? It may not be totally to your liking or hers but I would try to adhere to Wikipedias guidelines and create a neutral well sourced paragraph then seek consensus. Jadeslair (talk) 16:26, 14 June 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for you offer that I accept wholeheartedly. You appear to be a very thoughtful and reasonable person. I personally don't want to get involved in that matter any longer, it has already taken a toll on me. I have discovered (through EdJohnston) that the redirect from Usr II's account to mine was due to My very best wishes. His action is unforgivable, since now Usr II' account appears as unregistered and he won't be able to login. Some editors are very fine persons but others seem intent on poisoning the atmosphere. Anyway, I don't want to have a fight with My very best wishes. I think my time is better used surfing the waves than surfing the internet :) --Théophile de Viau (talk) 19:54, 14 June 2016 (UTC)
@Théophile de Viau: As you have discovered that I had nothing to do with the account merger, I would ask that you strike through (or otherwise retract) your accusation against me on the article's talk page as a sign of good faith. Article talk pages are public, so I'm reticent to make any unnecessary remarks regarding "paranoia" and merging your account with User I1. So far as I was concerned, this was done by you, or by a sysop. Continuing a WP:BATTLEGROUND approach to editing is not going to result in good article content... and that is what we're all WP:HERE to do as editors. Thanks, in advance, for taking my advice into consideration. --Iryna Harpy (talk) 21:30, 14 June 2016 (UTC)
@Iryna Harpy: I don't think Jadeslair's talk page is the right place for this discussion, therefore I'll be brief. It is true that you are not the perpetrator of the redirect but, since you claimed "You are Usr II/Usr lI, which is why your accounts have been merged", you can't complain that I suspected you. Even now, you are claiming that I might have done it myself when you know perfectly well that this is not the case. Anyway, as a sign of goodwill, I will delete the reference to paranoia. Jadeslair has kindly offered to reformulate my edit to make it more consensual and I have accepted. However, I will not accept any cover-up of the facts. If you have valid objections, please state them clearly. --Théophile de Viau (talk) 00:20, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
I don't think you fully understand how this works. It is not down to Jadeslair to 'reformulate' your edit. WP:CON will be met on the talk page where the discussion of what is and what is not appropriate is taking place. There are other highly experienced editors involved who are in the process of discussing the content and context within the article. Please read WP:OWNERSHIP and be aware of the fact that you are editing in an WP:ARBEE area (as EdJohnston has made clear to you on your own talk page). No one is denying that developments surrounding the Kiev government's lack of co-operation with the UN should be documented (myself included as I don't WP:OWN the article): it's the form the documentation takes, and your content was absolutely POV, provided no context, and was UNDUE. I suggest that discussions continue on the article's talk page (where they belong) before anyone tries to copyedit on your behalf. --Iryna Harpy (talk) 00:50, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
No it is not up to me but I know the process and the rules, I will submit a good edit and seek consensus. Jadeslair (talk) 02:45, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
Cheers, Jadeslair. I'm looking forward to seeing your proposal. --Iryna Harpy (talk) 04:01, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
Hi, Jadeslair. I wouldn't like you to get the impression that I am pressing you, but are you making any progress on the edit? I am asking because a new edit has already been made which misrepresents the sources. It quotes the Times as saying the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics are to blame for allowing torture and running secret jails. Tis is an outright lie, as you can easily check for yourself. --Théophile de Viau (talk) 20:09, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

New Page Review needs your help

Hi Jadeslair,

As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).

Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.

Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.

It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

Your recent article in January highly suggests possible attempts to bypass reviewing given it was moved to mainspace but, not only this, it has a noticeably promotional tone such as a paid article.if so, you are legally required to see WP:What Wikipedia is not and WP:Paid. This is enough to delete any suspected cases as explicitly stated by the Wikimedia Foundation as it's a non-negotiable policy (WP:Deletion policy). SwisterTwister talk 19:02, 17 June 2017 (UTC) It was not promotional it was just about a company. I just created an article, that is all. Was the subject notable? Yes It probably should not have even been deleted, just edited. Creating an article about a company does not make someone paid. Jadeslair (talk) 19:49, 17 June 2017 (UTC)

  • Well, perhaps we become too overcautious because of past cases, but I will note in this case the information and sources are not proving Notability and the sources are too close as simple announcements and notices. Better major independent news that is non-trivial would help. SwisterTwister talk 20:02, 17 June 2017 (UTC)

I remember creating the article. It was hard to figure out what was a press release and what was not. I normally do not include a press release unless it is a companies reply such as a crisis. Jadeslair (talk) 20:05, 17 June 2017 (UTC)

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Conflict of interest?

Hi Jadeslair. I'm extremely concerned that you have a conflict of interest with at least some of your editing. Should we discuss it here or maybe at WP:COIN? --Ronz (talk) 18:16, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

I have not even been editing that much. Mostly when I get a notification. What are you talking about? Is this because I created that company page... the page was deleted last time I knew. I did not even contest it or anything Jadeslair (talk)
Thanks for the quick response. I've not looked at your article creations at this point. I noticed that your addition here to Acoustic foam was reverted earlier today. I did some cleanup to the article and noticed that unlike the other editors, you've been editing for some time now, making substantial and valuable contributions to Wikipedia. I thought you'd be familiar with WP:COI at this point. I'm assuming you have a great deal of expertise in many of the topics that you edit, and I'm surprised that you're still adding such sources. --Ronz (talk) 22:25, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

A commercial source does not mean it is a bad source. Often they are the best source because of their expertise. I also link to studies but they lack real world information. I do not link to product pages or anything like that even if it has the information I am looking for. You removed the link, now the article is almost unsourced. That is the opposite end of the spectrum. With only one source we do not know if the article is even partially true. I think you have made the page worse. That is just my opinion. It takes may types of people to make wikipedia. Jadeslair (talk)

The problem is that commercial sources are usually very bad sources. They are self-published. They are biased. While you personally may have the expertise to identify the quality of the information in such sources, to any observer you're just picking and choosing from sources that all look like WP:REFSPAM.
Sorry to press you on this, but I was hoping you'd make some comment on any conflict of interest you may have. I'd like to get past any coi problems if possible. --Ronz (talk) 18:43, 13 December 2017 (UTC)
I don't have ant conflictsJadeslair (talk) 23:57, 13 December 2017 (UTC)
Iam not an expert either. I did not know that was required now. Is it? Jadeslair (talk) 23:59, 13 December 2017 (UTC)
It's not required, but thank you.
I'm assuming you have some expertise with sound management, and respect soundcontroltech.com as a source. However, of the sources you have offered, it is one of the worst. I have a hard time imagining that there aren't clearly reliable sources available of the quality you usually use. --Ronz (talk) 03:44, 14 December 2017 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer Flag

Hi, Jadeslair.
I've noticed that you are an AfC reviewer but don't yet have the New Page Reviewer flag. Would you please consider heading over to PERM and requesting it? (check the flag requirements HERE)
As part of a larger plan to increase cooperation between New Page Patrol and Articles for creation, we are trying to get as many of the active AfC reviewers as possible under the NPR user flag (per this discussion). Unlike the AfC request list, the NPR flag carries no obligation to review new articles, so I'm not asking you to help out at New Page Patrol if you don't want to, just to request the flag.
Of course, if it is something you would be interested in, you can have a look at the NPP tutorial. Please mention that you are an active AfC reviewer in your application.
Cheers and thanks for helping out at AfC, — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 06:24, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

I think I had stopped because I was unsure about what to do with most articles. I just saw the flow chart via NPR. Might be more active because I see some clear ways to handle pages now. Jadeslair (talk)
Good to hear that the flowchart is helpful in clarifying the process for you (I made the thing in an effort to try to codify a way for inexperienced editors to review a page when they might not be 100% on all the various parts involved, and to help when you get lost and don't know what you should check next). I'm sorry that things didn't go your way at PERM, I should have checked your activity level before suggesting it. I would recommend installing Twinkle and heading over to the Special:NewPagesFeed if you want to help out, as the NPR user right isn't required to do most of the review work (only the final step of ticking off the page). If you are keen to get involved, this would be a good way to get some experience with the project. The main pitfalls I would suggest you avoid are: don't over-tag articles (apply 3 tags maximum; even if others apply just pick the best 3), and be very frugal with CSD nominations (only CSD in the most blatant of cases, err on the side of caution and use lesser tier methods such as AfD and PROD instead if there is any doubt at all). — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 22:22, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
Sounds Like a great Idea. Thank youJadeslair (talk) 23:21, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
