Protection for Seamus (dog)

I am a bit confused by you comments on the Talk:Seamus (dog) page. I already post a request for protection at Wikipedia:Requests_for_page_protection#Seamus_.28dog.29_.28edit.7Ctalk.7Chistory.7Clinks.7Cwatch.7Clogs.29. Debbie W. 16:38, 3 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

The {{edit semi-protected}} template is only for requesting changes to pages that are already semiprotected, not to request protection on them. If you've already posted a request for protection at WP:RPP (which it appears you did), you've already done the right thing. elektrikSHOOS (talk) 16:41, 3 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I never had posted a protection request before, and I was a bit confused about how to do it. Debbie W. 16:49, 3 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Black Ops II editing request

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Call_of_Duty:_Black_Ops_II#Edit_request_on_2_May_2012

...The page is still protected :(

Haakontje (talk) 21:13, 8 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Well, according to the page's protection log, previous protection expired, then it got reprotected by someone else two days later. You can change the {{{answered}}} parameter on your edit request from yes to no if it's still relevant, or post a new one entirely. elektrikSHOOS (talk) 23:47, 8 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Recent request to update section in Gambling - Fixed Odds Betting

Hi Elektrik Shoos. 18th April 12 I requested that the words Eurovision Song Contest be added to the fixed odds betting section on the gambling page. I run a small website that specializes in this and as the election betting and reality TV betting subject were mentioned I thought you might add Eurovision betting in too. If I could also add my site as a reference at the foot of the page then that would be great. I have read up about the rules and I believe this is allowed? Thanks a lot, Stefanie Stefaniereeve (talk) 07:47, 9 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Adding that link wouldn't be allowed. See what external links aren't allowed and our guideline on self-promotion. I'd also encourage you to read our FAQ for organizations. elektrikSHOOS (talk) 00:51, 10 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

The Mousetrap FAQ

Hello Elektrik Shoos/Archive 4. So more than a week ago, I asked on the talk page of The Mousetrap if there could be a fourth question for the FAQ. The question would be something like "Shouldn't Agatha Christie's wishes be followed?" or "There is a tradition of not spoiling the ending. Why spoil it?" What do you think of adding such a question? I would add it myself, but I wouldn't want to be too bold, I wanted some consensus, and finally I'm not sure what the exact wording should be. Thank you! North Yokum Township

Hi, saw your note in history on North Yokum Township, Carroll County, Arkansas. I already had created the corrected version with a copy of the data (name corrected throughout). The correct one is North Yocum Township, Carroll County, Arkansas. What should be done with two of them out there? The one with the "Yokum" ("k" as opposed to "c") is the incorrect one. Data (other than spelling issue) is identical between the two of them.Yx7791 (talk) 23:44, 4 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'll tag the second one for a maintenance deletion so that the old page can be moved there. Any edit history on your new page should be preserved. (For future reference, you move pages by going to the little dropdown arrow next to the star at the top of the page and selecting "Move page." Non-administrators can't move pages over existing ones, though.) elektrikSHOOS (talk) 23:47, 4 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Okay, thanks.Yx7791 (talk) 23:51, 4 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Also, just corrected spelling within the "k" page to reflect proper spelling of name. When the page is moved, all data within the page will be correct. Yx7791 (talk) 23:58, 4 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
You didn't have to, though it's fine if you did. When admins fix copy-paste moves, they typically also merge both page's history so that it presents as one page. elektrikSHOOS (talk) 23:59, 4 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

ANI thread

Hello Elektrik Shoos. Thanks for your quick response to my recent posting at ANI. However in your response, you implied criticism of the etiquette of my behaviour, and I should be grateful if you could clarify how you believe I failed in this area. I considered it more appropriate to ask this question here, rather than clutter up the page at ANI. Thanks. PaleCloudedWhite (talk) 07:30, 7 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I have to be honest, it's rather late where I am right now and I'm editing while half-asleep. Normally, per WP:SUICIDE, you'd want to report potential suicide threats directly to the Foundation and not to community boards. This also has the benefit of shielding the privacy of the user who is considering suicide. However, it was poor form on my part to jump the gun and not assume good faith on your part, and I'm sorry for that. Please disregard my initial response. elektrikSHOOS (talk) 07:34, 7 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I'm wondering if it might be helpful if the wording in the header (before one posts at ANI) is changed, as it currently requests that users "please also email" (my emphasis) the Wikimedia Foundation of any potential suicide threat - it doesn't advise against making a posting on the noticeboard. Initially I had deliberately not informed the user of my posting at ANI, because if they were genuinely considering taking their own life, I didn't think it would be sympathetic to put up a sign on their talk page with words to the effect of "Oi! You're being discussed elsewhere!" Well obviously I'm exaggerating a bit here, but hopefully you understand my point. Thanks again for your conciliatory words above. Arazi (surname)

Do you have any reason to believe that the surname article is not a stub or would it be alright if you or I reintroduced the stub tags? Ryan Vesey Review me! 02:14, 13 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Stub tags are typically not placed on disambig/list pages, as the tag implies there's room for content expansion where there's not necessarily. Sheynhertz-Unbayg has been warned about this before. elektrikSHOOS (talk) 02:16, 13 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Please note that the article was not a disambiguation page, but was a surname page. The difference can be found at MOS:DABNAME which states that "Articles only listing persons with a certain given name or surname, known as anthroponymy articles, are not disambiguation pages, and this Manual of Style does not apply to them." (Emphasis in original) To be certain, I was completely unaware of this distinction until the beginning of this ordeal. The style guidelines for this page can be found at MOS:APO. In addition, if you would like a complete list of articles that the user edited I can give it to you. Ryan Vesey Review me! 02:19, 13 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
In addition, any responses right now may be delayed, I apologize for that. Ryan Vesey Review me! 02:20, 13 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Huh. I wasn't either, and was operating under the assumption that they were all disambig pages. Alright, it's probably best to replace the stub tags, though I'm not sure any template other than {{surname-stub}} is necessary. Also, I don't need a list of the user's contributions. I've been sorting through them myself, top to bottom. elektrikSHOOS (talk) 02:24, 13 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
WPAPO:STUB is what I used to determine stub status. I do think you are correct in only using {{surname-stub}}. Ryan Vesey Review me! 02:27, 13 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Daniel Davis (Youtube Personality) Article

Thanks for your concern. This page was not created by me but by my fans, as you can see[here]. Apparently it was submitted to the wrong Wikipedia section and therefore deleted, so I am re-submitting it in what I think is the appropriate section. Please check the sources and if this page is less worthy of being added than Youtube personalities [Caitlin Hill], the creators of [Ask a Ninja], [Fox Bronte], [Amanda Baggs], or [Amy Walker], then I will gladly hand it over for deletion. But if that is the case, then those wiki submissions should also be removed, as they only have as much right to be on Wikipedia as this page does. If you believe it is still in the wrong section, please let me know what you think would be a more appropriate section. Tinkernut (talk) 04:19, 20 June 2012 (UTC)TinkernutReply

If it is created in userspace like Zaz986 did above, it isn't an article yet, it's a userspace draft and probably isn't complete yet. I'd wait to move it until the user who made it feels it's ready. Also, if you're the subject of the page, I would strongly suggest you avoid editing it to maintain neutrality - see our conflict of interest guideline. Finally, the notability of other internet celebrities isn't necessarily relevant here. (As a handy tip, if you're linking to pages inside of Wikipedia, you can just enclose the name of the page in double brackets: for instance, typing in [[Amanda Baggs]] will result in Amanda Baggs.) Please let me know if you have any other questions, though I'd prefer to direct this particular discussion instead to happen on Talk:Daniel Davis (Youtube Personality), the discussion page for that article, as it's more relevant there. elektrikSHOOS (talk) 04:31, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
That's actually a big help. I want to make sure it's done right, so I'll contact Zaz986 and work with him to get it to the appropriate location. Thanks! BTW, is there anyway to delete the page I created? Or do you have that ability? Tinkernut (talk) 04:35, 20 June 2012 (UTC)TinkernutReply
I can't delete it myself, as I'm not an administrator, but I can tag it for speedy deletion and it will be removed shortly. elektrikSHOOS (talk) 04:36, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Michael Ocansey

I saw the speedy deletion of Michael Ocansey I created yesterday. Thanks for the correction. I think such info will be best put on his profile. --Nkansahrexford (talk) 06:59, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

If you contact one of the administrators on this list, they can restore the article for you and convert it into a userspace draft, which can allow you to work on it without risk of deletion. Hope this helps. elektrikSHOOS (talk) 15:42, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Wach (name)

I rolled back your speedy deletion, because it's a valid dab page even if a sock edited it. Thank you for understanding. Bearian (talk) 23:46, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

That's fine. It's site policy to revert any and all edits made by a banned user, save those that reintroduce blatant vandalism or other egregious things, but it's completely acceptable to revert an edit yourself and assume responsibility for it. elektrikSHOOS (talk) 00:49, 21 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

George Takei

I took serious offense to your suggestion on the George Takei Talk page that editor Hearfourmewesique and I break it up. IMO that editor has a maturity problem, especially now that I have seen their talk page. To suggest I am somehow on the same level as someone who bursts in on the George Takei page, posts a random appearance in the biography, when I remove it they say the page should have a filmography section, I agree, and then they begin flaming me for not creating the section myself. Really? Akuvar (talk) 03:57, 27 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I don't particularly want to get this involved in that fight, but I'll say this: I saw two editors arguing and I cautioned likewise. I don't really care who's less mature. Arguing is arguing. And to be honest, suggesting that I was anything other than an editor who left a note on the talk page suggests a lack of good faith on your part. I'll say nothing else on the matter, because I don't want to be involved any more. Please respect this. elektrikSHOOS (talk) 04:07, 27 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

July 2012 Study of authors of health-related Wikipedia pages

Dear Author/Elektrik Shoos

My name is Nuša Farič and I am a Health Psychology MSc student at the University College London (UCL). I am currently running a quantitative study entitled Who edits health-related Wikipedia pages and why? I am interested in the editorial experience of people who edit health-related Wikipedia pages. I am interested to learn more about the authors of health-related pages on Wikipedia and what motivations they have for doing so. I am currently contacting the authors of randomly selected articles and I noticed that someone at this address recently edited an article on Nutrition. I would like to ask you a few questions about you and your experience of editing the above mentioned article and or other health-related articles. If you would like more information about the project, please visit my user page (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Hydra_Rain) and if interested, please reply via my talk page or e-mail me on nusa.faric.11@ucl.ac.uk. Also, others interested in the study may contact me! If I do not hear back from you I will not contact this account again. Thank you very much in advance.
