One interesting thing - I'm not sure if you're familiar with New Page Patrol, but this one was at the back of the log. I find it interesting that it slipped through the cracks. Users who do NPP obviously tend to like to look at the pages just created, but there's a lot to take care of at the back of the log. I remember the day I found the infamous film director article, there were like 3-4 other articles that I prod'd/csd'd/afd'd, also in the back of the log. I wonder if part of the user's anger is that the page was around for over a month, so why all the trouble now? A little understandable, but that doesn't mean his article should stay.

You're very welcome. I was not familiar with NPP, but I am now! I actually ran across AFD when I was doing my usual Wiki-surfing (I do a lot). Somehow, I ended up on Glassblowing, which led me to here and then to David Patchen. Curiosity got the better of me, and I checked it out... then wondered why there was an article for someone non-notable... And that started the voyage through figuring out how to nominate an AFD and the rest has proven to be a deeper view in to the workings of Wikipedia than I had anticipated. It is unfortunate that the user [in your submitted AFD, not mine, for clarification] is obviously upset and failing to understand the notability requirements. I fail to see what was unconstructive about my addition to the Harry McNally page. One of the clubs he scouted for was missing, I added it correctly and with citation.

We do tend to look closer at the edits made by IP's, since approximately 75% of vandalism originates from persons who do not have an account. I was indeed overzealous with the trigger. In case you're interested: Wikipedia-chemistry typically notes IUPAC names in the table but we dont push IUPAC nomenclature, especially when it is obscure, as in this case. Star Trek History Links

Please explain how the Star Trek History links are in any way "SPAM"? They are legitimate links to incredibly important deleted scenes from the original Star Trek history. Far from spam, they represent aspects of production for these episodes and extremely relevant material about the creation of these episodes. Did you happen to even LOOK at one of these links before you called it SPAM and removed it? Did you look at the YouTube video before you deleted it? I understand Wiki is not a collection of links. I see nothing there that prohibits what I did. Further, I had made ALL of my edits before you ever found the first one. I ignored nothing. You warned me over something you were coming across at a later time, or your software was notifying you of well after the fact. I watched a whole movie after I made those edits and came back to find your remarks. It is very uncool of you to block me as punishment for something I did not do, when at this point in time it was only to prevent further conversation – extremely petty. Further, each and every one of those links I added are NOT the same LINK, Most of them were different pages of the same site with specific references to the episode to which it was posted. It is YOU who did a wholesale revert without checking the content of those links. Simply because I labeled them all the same: "deleted scenes" does NOT mean that they were all the same link, it just means for that article they constitute the deleted scenes. No need to block me again as I have no intention of doing anything about this tonight, or anytime soon for that matter. The main ideal behind Wikipedia is to include information that is verifiable by reliable third-party sources. I am not at all questioning the admirable work that has been performed on the site. The issue is that it's mass inclusion in numerous articles without discussion and without it being a notable website, is considered disruptive. The website itself has never received any news coverage from a reliable third-party source. Websites of this type are often considered fancruft. I understand your assertion that it is non-commercial, although every single image on the site also references an indisputably commercial website. I'm sure you can appreciate the number of people who strongly believe that THEIR website is important for inclusion, no matter what Wikipedia policies are. Two of Wikipedia's core policies are maintaining a neutral point of view and avoiding conflicts of interest. All of the above are my reasons for asserting that the inclusion is considered spam. My best recommendation is that you contact the Wikipedia:WikiProject Star Trek to discuss with them whether there is any material worthy of inclusion. I am certain you will find interest in the material that is available, and perhaps you would also consider releasing some under a Wikipedia compatible license, which would allow it's inclusion in articles. Page blanked by author

Hi. Though page blanking is usually vandalism and needs to be reverted, it is worth looking first at the page history, because quite often the author has blanked his own page, as was the case with Gary Witheford just now. In those cases the best thing is to tag it {{db-author}}. It can be confusing for an author who realises his page is inappropriate and blanks it, if his page is at once restored and he is accused of vandalism for the blanking and told it was unconstructive. Just a comment from my unhappy experience. You probably already knew this one... but I did not know that wp:blanking allows all users to blank their talk pages. I had known logged in users could, but I painstakingly restored a lot of warnings to a shared IP talk page... then learned it was ok for any one of the users to blank the page at any time. *sigh*sinneed (talk) 18:40, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

I don't know whether to put the prospective article, Cosmopolitan (film), as the target article, or User:Softlavender/Cosmopolitan (film). I got a message that the former article "doesn't seem to exist," so I decided to list the article as it appears now. But will the image still survive the changeover to Wikipedia proper? I'd like you to detail your claim that the information in question is incorrect - if you have reliable sources to this effect, the Oxford Capacity Analysis article could do with your additions. My edit to Domino's Pizza UK & IRL

I recently made an edit (not with this account - I'd forgotten to log in) to the "Labour issues" section of the above article adding that some workers were not merely being paid nothing but being made to pay the company; you reverted it. But that fact is mentioned in both of the two BBC News articles cited as sources for the paragraph - specifically in the seventh and penultimate paragraphs of "Domino's staff claim exploitation" and the seventh paragraph of "Domino's workers in 'slavery' row" - so I've restored a slightly better worded version of what I added before. Non-Free Image

It's not vandalism, becuase I was the only contributer anyway. The problem with Disney portals is that all of his material is copyrighted, and its hard to find a free image. I blanked it becuase "Rafaki.jpg" or whatever is a nonfree image (oops), so it i thought it better to simply blank it-the latter part of a file's tag is not a very pretty thing on a portal.

I do not understand what basis you made this accusation on. The link I provided, www.archi-pedia.com has a rich gallery of untextured 3D objects. Granted the site warrants visitors to create a username and password, this is simply to protect the site content from spiders, etc. What will it take for the link to be kept up without being blocked? Why is it considered vandalism? I noticed that you left a link from the article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Architectural_rendering to: http://www.archstudio.co.in/

What makes this a legitimate link compared with mine? I don't get it. Please explain so that I will not make the same mistake again. I would hate to be barred!!!

I'm not even sure about the advert tag, in its original incarnation it certainly was, after much culling of peacock terms and getting JustMA, the author to provide references I don't think its written like an advert any more. Did some kind of tool automatically alert you that a change had been made, or did you anally check the page every 20 minutes word by word? I've never understood how wikipedia isn't full of spam, so I tried making a relatively harmless change to a well trafficked page to see how long it took to get caught.

Interesting

One serious fault I have found with wikipedia is this : URL references to web pages for supporting an article tend to die. That is, many wiki articles have dead links for supporting assertions made on the page. Please assume good faith. In my opinion a single example of the use of variables foo and bar in Java suffices to illustrate the concept. Deletion of page

I've just now noticed that a page I created was deleted in January, so apologies for my late reply.

A friend of mine who has myriad and serious health problems mentioned that she has been helped by a medicine named Canova. I noticed that there was little information about this medicine on the Internet. I thought it would be helpful to assemble what little information there is in one place, it might well help other people. I have not used Canova myself, I have no reason to believe it would help my own particular health problems. I have no connection of any kind to any people or organizations that produce or sell that product, except that I am aquainted with my aforementioned friend who finds it useful.

I grant that the people who manufacture Canova might benefit from the existence of a Wikipedia article about their product. On the other hand, if we eliminate all Wikipedia articles about all initial-stage medicinal treatments in early development, it would seem to me that Wikipedia overall would not be as broadly useful as it ought to be.

Virtually any treatment in its initial, nascent stage of development is usually produced by a single patent holder in the first few years. If a patented cure for cancer were launched and sold starting today, and generic versions were not available for the first few years, would it be appropriate for Wikipedia to ban all articles about such an initially unique medicine? As near as I can tell, that is the situation that Canova is in just now, there is no broader category of medicines that Wikipedia can write about for the moment, Canova is temporarily unique. Is it really in everyone's best interest that nothing be written about this treatment in Wikipedia?

Has Wikipedia policy evolved to the point where it addresses these cases? I appreciate a policy that says that we can write articles about aspirin, we just can't write articles about Bayer aspirin. But suppose in some imaginary universe where aspirin was invented *after* the Internet was created, and during the first decade of the existance of aspirin the only aspirin *was* Bayer aspirin, there were no alternative brands yet. Should Wikipedia then ban articles about the new miracle drug aspirin because initially there was only one brand available?

Please re-read the deleted article and consider some way around this. I can't think of any way to write about the kind of drug Canova is, because to the best of my knowledge, it is its only kind.

Please prove me wrong. I don't want sick people to be deprived of information because of the perceived needs of an informational bureaucracy.
