Image tagging for Image:Elizabeth jennings 01.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Elizabeth jennings 01.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

License tagging for Image:W.M. Trotter.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:W.M. Trotter.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

Image source problem with Image:Colonel John Wayles Jefferson.gif edit

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Colonel John Wayles Jefferson.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 06:39, 10 October 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Jon Lucien.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Jon Lucien.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 01:03, 7 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Aubrey Williams and Eleanor Roosevelt.gif) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Aubrey Williams and Eleanor Roosevelt.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. I would like to request that the page Lisa Lavie be unprotected. I have written an article about Canadian singer/songwriter Lisa Lavie that I would like to post. I have included her on the YouTube celebrities page, with references, along with her close friend and fellow Youtube celebrity Iman Crosson, a.k.a. Alphacat.

Thank you for your help. Tonymartin (talk) 03:41, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi there. Since it has been protected from recreation, what I'd recommend is that you create the article in userspace (a subpage of User:Tonymartin) and then contact the admin who protected it, who is User:SchuminWeb. Other options may be WP:Deletion review, although I'd try contacting the admin first. Hope this helps, let me know if there are any more questions. --Chasingsol(talk) 03:53, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes, just create it, such as User:Tonymartin/article and save it. Just the same way you'd create an article under regular namespace. --Chasingsol(talk) 04:39, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Message to Tony re Lisa Lavie (and Iman Crosson) articles edit

Since there is no email link in your toolbox I'm writing to you this way.

From RCraig09 (talk) 06:23, 28 January 2009 (UTC):Reply

Hi Tony. I started writing an article about Lisa Lavie before yours was posted. Mine is about fifteen times as long as the present one, is highly organized, and has extensive references. As a courtesy I sent a draft to the artist herself for pointing out any inaccuracies, and my article's content is now in final form. All that remains for me to do is finish converting to wikicode. I should be done by early February.

Though I've been following the artist's career closely since 2007, this is my first wikipedia article and I was hoping we could come to an agreement as to how to get the more extensive article posted. It will have to be more of a replacement than a "change" though the new article would encompass your work in the old article. (note: Ms. Lavie told me she preferred not to have her personal relationships posted so I would exclude that--see wikipedia's policy on "Biographies of Living Persons".)

Please respond: Would you mind if I replaced your article with the longer one?

Thanks,

RCraig09 (talk) 06:23, 28 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Proposed deletion of Iman Crosson edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Iman Crosson, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

The one fact that this person does a good impersonation of President Obama does not seem like enough for lasting notability.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Clotel and Harriet Hemings edit

Thank you for your note. My apologies for taking so long to reply -- I have been away. I'm afraid Prof. Harding has things mixed up. I've read Clotel and the story bears no resemblance to that of Harriet Hemings. As I said, Brown got his inspiration from the article in "Liberator." See "The Origin of Brown's Clotel" by W. Edward Farrison in the journal Phylon Vol. 15, No. 4. (4th Qtr., 1954), pp. 347-354. The fictional story in Clotel is very different from the real-life events described by Edmund Bacon in his recollections--Clotel does not say that Jefferson's daughter was allowed to leave Monticello and was given money by the overseer to pay for her passage north. It is extremely unlikely that Brown had any knowledge of Harriet Hemings. Virginia Historian (talk) 13:18, 14 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for File:James Monroe Trotter.png edit

Thanks for uploading File:James Monroe Trotter.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 05:06, 26 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use File:Ellen Gilchrist.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Ellen Gilchrist.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. We hope (talk) 15:57, 13 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Hi, I'm Thalassaxeno. Tonymartin, thanks for creating Charles Ernest Chadsey!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Please try to cite your sources going forwards if you are going to make claims like these. Thanks for clarifying the issue regarding the save button. I'm sorry if my response to the article seemed hasty or unnecessary.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Disambiguation link notification for December 30 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Charles Ernest Chadsey, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Dean. Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge ‎ has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:56, 27 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of File:Isaac Jefferson.gif edit

The file File:Isaac Jefferson.gif has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:01, 18 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Draft help edit

Greetings. I would like to ask assistance with moving the following draft article from my Sandbox to the main Wikipedia site: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Tonymartin/Donald_Arthur_Hatch Thank you in advance for your help. Tonymartin (talk) 19:57, 19 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

From a quick look at your draft, I think it would be a good idea to submit your draft for review. Do this by adding {{subst:submit}} to the top of the page and publishing those changes. An experienced reviewer will take a look and if appropriate move the page to the article space. If not, they will give feedback on how to further improve the page. If you want more help, change the {{help me-helped}} back into a {{help me}}, stop by the Teahouse, or Wikipedia's live help channel, or the help desk to ask someone for assistance. Primefac (talk) 21:03, 19 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
