Hi again BaldBoris. I also saw that you've updated File:Team Sunweb logo.png. It might have been better to simply have upload the new version as a new file since it's so different from the old logo. I think updates are generally used for minor changes such as resizing, straightening, etc. when the basic file remains essentially the same. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:59, 6 January 2017 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: I didn't notice that the licence had been changed when uploaded the new version... But now I've renamed it to what the new upload would be? Germany, which seems to be the country of origin, apparently had fairly high US-like WP:TOO up to 2013 per c:COM:TOO#Germany. Not exactly sure how these are now treated, but they look simple enough to be to be at least {{PD-USonly}} for English Wikipedia. It might not hurt to ask at WP:MCQ or c:COM:VP/C because they could be moved to Commons if they are {{PD-logo}} and could then be used on other language Wikipedias as well. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:14, 6 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi BaldBoris. File:Team Movistar logo.png is also missing a non-free use rationale for Movistar Team (Continental Team). Please note that if the Continental Team is really a subsidiary of Movistar Team then it may be hard to justify the non-free use of the file per Number 17 of WP:NFC#UUI. Subsidiaries tend to be seen as "child entities" when it comes to non-free use, and although it's OK to use a logo specific to the child entity (if one exists), simply using the parent entities logo by default is generally not considered OK per WP:NFCC. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:55, 6 January 2017 (UTC)

In similar discussions at WP:NFCR and WP:FFD about similar logos, the consensus has often been that simply re-using the logo of a parent entity in the article about one of it's child entities as a default (even if the child entity does not have it's own specific branding) is something not allowed by WP:NFC#UUI17. The specifics of each situation, however, may differ and there is not always complete agreement by editors on how NFC#UUI17 should be interpreted. At first glance, I would say personally "no" and think it would probably be much better to try and find something specific to the Continental Team. Conversely, there may be something which is perhaps more specific to the main Movistar Team like twitter.com/movistar_team or www.facebook.com/movistarteam/ that the Continental Team does not use. The NFCC policy wants editors to try and minimize non-free use as much as possible, but this does not necessarily mean a non-free image can only be used in only one article. Multiple uses in multiple articles, however, are supposed be justified for each particular use and it's not supposed to be assumed that using an image in one article automatically means it's OK to use the same image in another article. (That sentence was not an accustation directed at you. It was just a statement of a general principle)

I'm sorry if my answer is a bit vague sounding, and if you feel the image use is justified then just please explain how in the rationale. If you want the community to provide feedback on the use, then you can always start a discussion at FFD. For what it's worth, the only reason I tagged this particular file was because it was missing a non-free use rationale required by WP:NFCC#10c, which means it could be removed at any time per WP:NFCCE. There is really no specific notification template for {{di-missing some article links}}, so it has been suggested that {{di-disputed fair use rationale-notice}} can be used as a substitute. The wording may be a little strong for a case like this, but the alternative {{di-no fair use rationale-notice}} is probably also not too friendly in tone. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:20, 6 January 2017 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: Thanks a lot for your great response! I must again say though that I didn't add those Movistar Team (Continental Team). This definitely isn't the first case in which someone has added my uploads to an article without changing the licence. It's so easy for new users to just add an image and for it never to get picked up, and even most experienced users don't care. I just added the rationale to the Movistar Team images as I was updating and was in a rush. I have a fair understanding of the policies as I have uploaded a decent amount. Thanks for giving me a clearer idea of what the policies are which will now help for the future. I think the only non-free images I've used in multiple articles have been women's teams (cycling), which usually have the status as the men's. In this case it looks like they use the same logo and kit (slightly different) according to www.facebook.com/movistarteamcontinental/ and twitter.com/Movistar_Team2. The easiest name to find when it comes to files is that of the original uploader, so that (unfortunately perhaps) tends to be the editor that notifications are sent. As you rightly point out, however, in many cases the original uploader and the editor added a file to the article are not the same and the uploader has no idea how the files are being used. Even in those cases I think it's probably a good idea to try and notify both. Often someone just adding images to article doesn't bother checking the licensing; they just see a file used elsewhere and assume that since it is already on Wikipedia that it must be OK to add to other articles as well, especially if when similar logos are being used in different articles in the same way. On the other hand, the original uploader may have a better understanding of image and why it was uploaded in the first place, and thus it may be easier for him or her to provide a suitable non-free use rationale. It's too bad there isn't some sort of "File watchlist" where an uploader can monitor how their uploads are actually being used. Maybe this would be an insteresting question for WP:VP (technical).

I saw your question about {{FlagUCIRoad}} and {{FlagUCIRoadathlete}}. can you provide a link to an example where it is not linking as you would expect? @Frietjes: Right, so due to the deletion of Nations at year UCI Road World Championships articles the links that those templates provide to the aforementioned articles need to be changed from Country name at year UCI Road World Championships to Country name at the UCI Road World Championships. The working links for example at 2015 UCI Road World Championships#Participating nations are recent redirects due to the deletions. Hope that made sense. BaldBoris 16:37, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

I am so glad that you decided to add to the article! I am a Visiting Scholar with the University of Pittsburgh and they have me inserting content from their archives into Wikipedia - so I never thought I would run into someone like you - someone who has an interest in putting in information that doesn't exist in the encyclopedia. If you live near Pittsburgh, I can probably get you a tour of the Archives - You would be amazed, and I've only scratched the surface of the historical content that Pitt has. I've gone back to commonswiki and put categories to attach to the photos that have been uploaded. If you like jazz, black history and/or Pittsburgh there are also archival content on Erroll Garner. I was just snooping around and found that you a quite prolific writer/editor! If you are interested in being a Visiting Scholar, I can help. What happens is that you get a library card to the University of Pittsburgh. They have an incredible amount of historical content behind their pay-wall.

Boris, the position of a Wikipedia Visiting Scholar is remote! You don't have to live anywhere need the institution. You can have access to the entire online University library remotely. When I got my University of Pittsburgh library card, I got access to all their online content. I just happen to live in Pittsburgh, but a Visiting Scholar can be anywhere on the planet. You are so experienced you would be 'dangerous' in an online University library! You would be overwhelmed with the resources. WikiEd is in charge of the Visiting Scholar program and they are looking for experienced content creators to pair with a University. The way it works is that you agree to improve content identified by the University BUT with access to their library, you can get whatever reference you want to improve any topic that you want. Revert of good faith edit

Hey, I see you have reverted a good faith edit of mine using Twinkle on the Eddy Merkcx article. This isn't an appropriate use of Twinkle.

You have also not provided an edit summary explaining why you reverted my changes. Again, this is not appropriate Wiki etiquette.

You have also not engaged with the discussion on the Talk Page where there is if anything a consensus in favour of my edit.

It feels as if you are trying to WP:OWN this article, which is not appropriate. Would you please be able to explain, with reference to Wikipedia's policies on the introductions to biographical entries, what is wrong with my edit and why you have repeatedly engaged in reversion with no attempt to reach consensus?

Hi. I am sorry. That is not assuming good faith and it is an ad hominem argument, which is not about the details of my edit. It is disappointing that you see this as a conflict between users and not as a way to discuss improving an article. It is also asserting ownership of the article, which is not at all correct. I have repeatedly given reasons for my edits repeatedly in the edit summaries and the talk page. I would invite you to look at the Talk Page of the article about the introduction.

I am not obliged to create an account and I do not wish to. That does not alter your obligation to assume good faith and act respectfully.

You and one other editor have (a) reverted good faith edits without proving any reasons and (b) not engaged with the Talk Page discussion where I have attempted to reach some kind of consensus.

I am happy to work towards consensus but if you will just keep reverting good faith edits without discussion or attempts to reach consensus I will have to ask for further dispute resolution.

1962 Tour de France

Hello:

The copy edit that you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article 1962 Tour de France has been completed.

I made a change to this sentence in the "Pre-Race Favourites Section":

"Van Looy made his Tour debut in 1962; he had avoided riding the Tour because he thought he did not have the full support of Belgium team, but with Flandria had control over rider selection." - "with Flandria had control" made no sense.

I changed it to read:

"He had avoided riding the Tour because he thought he did not have the full support of the Belgium team, but with Flandria he had control over rider selection." - just wanted to point this out to be sure my interpretation of what you meant to say is correct. If it is, or once you do clarify it, the "clarification needed" tag should be removed.

I also added a "by whom" tag here (in the same section) - "His closest rivals were thought to be[by whom?] Rik Van Looy (Flandria–Faema–Clément) and Raymond Poulidor (Mercier–BP–Hutchinson)." This will need to be clarified, I think.

Image Question

Oh Bald one, I have a quick question. I am interested in pulling more photos from the Mondadori Portfolio on GettyImages, but I have no idea how to get rid of the watermark and get the highest quality image like you have been able to do with the ones you have gotten - like these here. @Disc Wheel: Ha, first time I've been called that! Um.. I think those were uploaded by Materialscientist. I believe we use a similar approach (maybe different programs) by patching them up, not by magic in other words. If you let me know which ones you want, I'll see if the watermark can be removed. The higher quality ones I have just taken from other websites. Did you see the IP convo above? Don't think he's going away so I'd come to a compromise. Oh yea, I've created a ton of old cycling teams and they can all be linked using {{ct}}, see the ones not using a code here Category:Cycling team data. The 1962 Tour took longer than I'd envisaged, but I got there in the end. Glad to see you back on here BTW. BaldBoris 15:35, 25 June 2017 (UTC)

Ahh, I just picked a random year from the Giro, but I could've sworn I saw you uploaded some from the Getty Images. Regardless, I was just wanting to upload various ones from here that aren't on the wiki commons yet - so I don't want to have you do any for me. I'll toy around with the links and whatnot on there and see if I can figure a way to get quality image from it. I just saw the posts from it - but it definitely seems like a user that may have been on Wikipedia at one time because he/she seems well versed in all this terminology; however, his addition is merely replacing what I have in the third intro paragraph. It's good seeing someone else holding up the cycling mantle in my absence, but unfortunately my contributions will be scarce as I have lost a lot of the drive to put in work on the site with real life obligations becoming more pertinent. @Disc Wheel: Sorry for the lateness buddy. The embed feature only gives a tiny photo without the watermark. A lot of them have the watermark placed in front of detailed areas of the photo making it impossible to remove without it looking like a bodge. I'm not sure if I'll be able to edit much this month, but I'm sure we'll work on something great in the future. BaldBoris 12:47, 4 July 2017 (UTC)

Not a big deal good sir! I understand, the IRL situations take precedent and soon they will for me! Also I started going through one Giro page to add the new cycling team data to the sections and I noticed that there were some teams with different names with the cycling data on their page (i.e. 1984 Giro Cilo was called Cilo–Aufina while the data one was Cilo–Aufina–Crans–Montana in the data). I've sorted it out, see this diff. I have already added a number of alt names going of Memoire du cyclisme (Cilo 1984 example), usually for the Giro or Tour. If [template problem] is next to the name add a lower case a, b, or maybe c after the year ({{ct|Clio|1984b}}). I made a list for all the old team templates, but at the moment it's incomplete. I've create articles for all the GT winners teams (checkout the GC winners lists) and also every post-WW2 team that has competed in the Tour. I'm not sure how many are to missing for the Giro, but I've made a fair few. There's a lot more Italian teams (92) than French (57) though. BaldBoris 14:15, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

1962 Tour

Getting all Tours to FA is a nice goal, but too much work for me.

I found a useful source for the 1962 Tour with rules and prize money: "Er liggen miljoenen te rapen" [There are millions to be picked up]. Gazet van Antwerpen (in Dutch). 22 June 1962. p. 16.. Prize money is in Belgian Francs, and the real prizes were awarded in French Francs, but I found out that here 10 BFr=1 Ffr. It shows that there were also additional prizes (best regional, youngest rider to finish, biggest jump in general classification, most combative rider, most unlucky rider).

The source also gives the points distribution for mountains:

@EdgeNavidad: Maybe one day... Thanks for that the info. I was desperate for that, I was searching everywhere. Is Concentra the Belgian equivalent to Delpher? Another thing I really want to have was the combativity award for each stage and the top 10 for the final classification. For the stages, I'll have another go using Delpher, Mundo and Corriere. I did see it a lot during my research. Is there anywhere else you think I might find it? Also, are you able to read Dutch well? I have this website that shows the winner of the combativity award ("strijdlust"). It also shows the award for the cyclist with the most bad luck ("pech"). In 1962 there was no classification for combativity, but the most combative cyclist was voted for in the end of the Tour (in a similar way that happens now in 2017). See this book, chapter 9.2. @EdgeNavidad: Is [1] your website? From this I assumed that they were the points/votes accumulated over the race. Also, Mundo called it "Clasification de la Cobatividad". But now seeing the first stage's result I understand that they are individual votes. Do you know if there has ever been an on going classification? I tried getting to the bottom of it at Combativity award in the Tour de France, but there aren't many reliable sources about the history of it. Do you think the super-combativity award should be in the final standings section? Are the other awards really worth mentioning? We don't mention the lanterne rouges, and that is more well-known. I'll add the prize money and daily combativity award winners to the table shortly. I have a very small understanding of Dutch as it is similar to English and I have a family connection to the Netherlands. BaldBoris 12:37, 17 October 2017 (UTC)

Combativitity awards were awarded for each full stage, so the TTT in 2b was combined with 2a. I agree not to use colours for classifications that had no jerseys, so only green and yellow. I think the colours might have to be changed a bit, from the [review of the 2015 Vuelta]: Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Accessibility#Color maybe requires more contrast than is present, I don't know how to check this. @EdgeNavidad: This (page 3) only says that Graczyk won it after the first part, not after the TTT? I sorted out all the colours in all the leadership tables last year (yellow and green). Shall I go through all the Tours and remove colours that weren't used (e.g. combativity only red from 1998)?

This article mentions combativity prizes are given after every "rit" (=stage), and says there are 22. I guess that because the TTT is not run individually, the winner was already determined after the first part of the stage. Good work on the colours, I did not notice that they were already improved. Removing unused colours is ok, but I am not sure on the combativity... I only know that the red number is worn from 2000 on (although it was blue in 2004), and I have looked a lot for sources on older years but could not find any. @EdgeNavidad: OK I'll put them both combined. I got 1998 from this book. I added it to Combativity award in the Tour de France#Current system as it was the only reliable source I could find. Can't find anything on the blue in 2004, also checked Google Images. If you are 100% sure, then we need a blue version of commons:Category:Number 123 on clothing and code it into Template:Infobox cycling race report for 2004 Tour de France's infobox.
