Biographies

edit

I see several biographies about living scholars. Is any of the students creating or expanding articles on "their own" professors? Nemo 07:39, 23 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Edith Merritt McKee

edit

The article Edith Merritt McKee was recently created, apparently as part of this project. However, she doesn't appear to be notable. All there is is one single source, an obituary in a small-town newspaper, the Petoskey News-Review in Petoskey, Michigan (population 5,670). The obituary itself, which was likely republishing information provided by surviving family members, seems to have errors, referring to the "American Institute of Petroleum Geologists", but probably intending either the American Association of Petroleum Geologists ([1]) or the American Institute of Professional Geologists ([2]); which suggests it is not a reliable source in any event.

I can't find any further information on McKee to establish notability. If this is a notable geologist, please update the article to indicate that.

Since this looks like a school project, I'll hold off calling for the article deletion for a week or so, on the assumption that a professor who assigned the article to be created knows something to support notability, and it just needs to be added; and because I don't want to throw a new contributor into the Wikipedia deletion process if I can avoid it.

The following links may assist in finding sources to support notability:

I'll check back in a week or so, and if the issues have not been addressed, I will start the deletion process. TJRC (talk) 22:23, 3 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi TJRC. Thanks for your note. I am the professor who assigned the article. I received a list (hard copy that I do not have reference to as I am not in my office for the next week), from a historian of geology. I will take a look at what she had put for her contributions. She also included in the list the different sources of information for each of the women geologists on the list (about 100). I will try to contact her and see what she has to say about other sources of information. This may be longer than a week, but I will try to get it done as soon as possible. Following up: I've nominated the article for deletion; see notification below. TJRC (talk) 23:38, 20 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
