Project page included in Category:A1 Grand Prix venues

Transcluding Template:A1 Grand Prix circuits into the Project page results in the project page being included in Category:A1 Grand Prix venues. Which (IMHO) is a bit yukky. Personally I'd recommend not transcluding the template (or any of the others) into the project page, but instead just referring to them by name e.g. {{A1 Grand Prix circuits}}. An alternative approach would be to remove the category from the template, and manually apply the category to the individual circuit articles. I'll leave it to the members of the project to decide the best way forward. -- DH85868993 (talk) 01:40, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the notice. I've removed the category from the template and use also the notation you suggest to refer the template in the project page. - Rollof1 (talk) 12:50, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Template to simplify A1 Team name

I suggest create Template to replace "  Switzerland" :

{{flagicon|SUI}} [[A1 Team Switzerland|Switzerland]]

by :

{{A1:SUI}} or {{A1GP:SUI}}

Like flagicon Teamplate, name must use ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 codes. After creating template for each A1 team, its necessary to replace all existing sentence by these with a bot probably. The point is to simplify team name writting and save octects in all WP:A1GP pages. - Rollof1 (talk) 13:32, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

You'll probably be better bringing this up at WT:MOTOR, as your unlikely to get much response here. D.M.N. (talk) 14:52, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
The template sounds like a good idea to me.-- Diniz(talk) 15:07, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Jonny Reid

I suspect that this Flickr image is of Jonny Reid, but I can't be sure. Please can someone confirm this for me?-- Diniz(talk) 15:06, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

This is Reid. Similar silouhete picture can be found here at a1nzl.com. Nice free pictures! - Rollof1 (talk) 15:39, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Race reports for 2008–09

I know it's still a month away, but I went ahead and started up the race report page for the Italy race. We're not changing anything from the previous race report format are we? No rules have significantly changed to deem it necessary... TheChrisD RantsEdits 16:54, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

The rules are globally the same, indeed. The previous year reports page was structured by me and nobody request some modifications. But if you think it need changes... The think that wasn't in the previous reports was the rookies drivers picked up (it was only notified the newscomers in the Note section). Anyway, thanks for your contributions in this project. - Rollof1 (talk) 17:06, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Standardising of the A1 Team pages

I've been going through some of the A1 Team pages whilst updating them with driver and other information for the upcoming season - and I've noticed that they all seem to have a different layout, ordering, details etc.

I suggest that all A1 Team pages be standardised, along some sort of "template" like:

  • Opening line and infobox
  • Management
  • History
    • Very brief synopsis of season's overall performance
  • Drivers
  • Complete results
  • Refs
  • External Links

Does anyone else agree, or have anything to ask about this? If there's no objection, I will likely change all the team pages to follow this format, at some point this weekend. TheChrisD RantsEdits 23:00, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Of course I agree. - Rollof1 (talk) 08:30, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
I've seen your work in team pages. Maybe a summary for each season is not necessary in the history section. This section will be very long after some seasons. A historical paragraph should be better (transform summaries in a unique paragraph). - Rollof1 (talk) 11:40, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
I was thinking about that myself, it does look like that soon each individual season won't need a report. Depending on how much information for this season is placed into the team's histories, then we can think about condensing the first three seasons into one single section. Complete A1 Grand Prix Results on team pages

I just want to try and cast your eyes over a slightly different layout for the Complete A1 Grand Prix Results section on each of the teams pages, starting with this season. I think it helps to make it clear what country the race was held in.

Any and all feedback is welcome, but I plan on adding the 2008–09 row to all teams pages (excluding Korea and Monaco, where it is already in place), along with updating the drivers tables with any new drivers for this season, so let me know ASAP! TheChrisD RantsEdits 11:18, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure that's better. That increase the height of tables. In formula one team, they only have the initial of each venue (eg WilliamsF1 Grand Prix results). Maybe keeping flags and initials without "spr" and "fea" but i'm not convinced so. - Rollof1 (talk) 15:10, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
I've added the 2007–08 year format on top of it for a direct comparison, as well as how it would look in conjunction with the previous format (I've used A1 Team New Zealand as an example since they only had one driver in 07–08) TheChrisD RantsEdits 15:28, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
The first look more simple and clear in my mind with 1 case = 1 race. - Rollof1 (talk) 16:37, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
To me though, it looks as if there are two links to follow for each race, plus it can be difficult to tell the difference between one venue's results and the next, since there is no differentiation between the two. TheChrisD RantsEdits 16:48, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

PS. I also have the bare-bones tables for race report pages, currently up on my sandbox, and commented out on the Zandvoort race report page. TheChrisD RantsEdits 11:48, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

I've check your sandbox and in the "Sprint and Feature Races" results tables its unecessary have "laps" AND "time". Time is enough (like in 07–08 season). I agree the "driver" table even if it make longer the reports articles. - Rollof1 (talk) 15:18, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
Tables from the previous years had both "laps" and "time". There is somewhat of a difference. Laps indicates the number of complete laps a team finished, whereas I planned on using time for either the time difference to the leader (whether that be in seconds or laps), or the reason for retirement, which is something that wasn't used before in the A1GP tables, but is used in F1 race reports (2008 Singapore Grand Prix for example). Plus I feel the drivers table is necessary, as sometimes it isn't exactly clear who was driving for what team, until you reach the results tables. TheChrisD RantsEdits 15:28, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
ok - Rollof1 (talk) 16:37, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
