The impacts can include material efficiency include reducing energy demand... is certainly questionable. The previous wording is clearer.

• You didn't explain why you removed Increasing material efficiency is a crucial opportunity to achieve the 1.5 °C goal by the... and its accompanying citation, which seems reliable and not duplicated elsewhere in the article.
• This has excessive capitalization: Material efficiency in manufacturing refers to Increasing the efficiency....
• I would make a habit of separating image specifications from regular text, as we have a bot that sometimes flags errors on that basis, even if the rendering is correct.

@Geardona: I see you've logged 27k words of copyedits in 4 days, and your account is less than 2 months old. Before taking on more work, you might want to review the copyedits you've already submitted and check them for thoroughness. This can be a particular issue for longer articles, which can be more complex and can require more attention to consistency. Requesting Review

Spinney Hill, thanks for asking. As far as I can tell, Marjorie Taylor Greene does not have any {{copy edit}}-related maintenance tags, nor was it requested at WP:GOCER—so it is ineligible for this drive. Additionally, your edit was very minor (though helpful and necessary!), and only addressed a small part of the article. (If, for example, you edited a section of an eligible article, you would only include the word count of the edited section.)

Here's my recommendation: Remove Marjorie Taylor Greene from your article list. Find an article to work on from the backlog of articles tagged as needing a copy edit. (You can filter by topic, and you get extra points for articles tagged in November 2022 or prior.)

Thanks. I think I have probably misunderstood the rules. I intended to see how I could do with what I would have done anyway with the articles on my watchlist, I don't know if any of those are on the two lists you mention The edit for MTG was just to see if it could do it properly. The real work would be on longer . I will try some from the lists-perhaps one of the battles or James Anderson or any other cricket articles there are. Spinney Hill: No worries at all! I would recommend looking for articles around 2,000–3,000 words. While you're welcome to start with larger articles (such as James Anderson (cricketer)), I personally find anything greater than 3,000 words to be more time-consuming—these articles can easily get exhausting/discouraging.

If you're specifically interested in certain topics, you can try using PetScan, which is an external search tool. Here, I used PetScan to find a list of articles that are all of the following (1) tagged as needing copy edit, (2) categorized as "Cricket" or its subcategories, and (3) under 25,000 characters (aka bytes).

Sometimes, you get an error when you submit a query. I assume this is because the search was too broad and PetScan times out. In that case, I try a more modest search, such as Category:Battles of the late modern period instead of Category:Battles.

Leaderboard question

Hi, not that it's a race (but it is?!) but how does the leaderboard work, are we updating it ourselves manually, or does it get added up properly at the end? I have 21 articles but I've dropped off somehow, so just wondering if "section only" edits are not counted, or something. Cheers! — Jon (talk) 00:16, 25 January 2024 (UTC)

Does it count if an editor just removes the ce tag?

Good question! If your edits only pertained to maintenance tag fixes or other non–copy edits, you should not list the article on your list.

As for the edit itself, I would generally say a bibliography does not need citations. See MOS guidance on lists of works. (The section should not have been tagged for copy editing, in the first place, though.)

Which prose is non-copy-editable for word counting purposes?

The instructions for word counting at the main drive page say that when copy-pasting into a word processor, to "remove the table of contents, image captions, mathematical notation and any other non-copy-editable prose." Exactly which other types of prose are non-copy-editable? I have been working under the assumption that section/subsection headers, References, Further Reading, and External Links are non-copy-editable. Are those assumptions correct or incorrect? And are there any other types of prose I did not list that are also non-copy-editable? SmileySnail (talk) 23:33, 28 January 2024 (UTC)

I didn't see what you're referring to. It's easier to install the WP:Prosesize gadget, which counts everything except tables and bulleted lists (which you'll have to copypaste into a word processor). Thanks for your help and all the best, Miniapolis 00:32, 29 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi @SmileySnail:, what you quote is basically correct; other material such as block quotations, citations, lists of references, text in tables and bulletted lists (unless you copy-edited them), and any other non-article text such as templates, page furniture and external links, shouldn't be counted. Basically, anything you didn't or couldn't copy-edit should be excluded from your word counts. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 07:38, 29 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Miniapolis, I have installed and used the Prosesize gadget, and am aware of the limitations concerning tables and bulleted lists. That is why I so often have to use the copy-paste technique, because many of the articles I edit just happen to contain bullets. Also, the opaque phrase "any other non-copy-editable prose" appears in the section Word counting script, and I simply wondered what falls under the "any other"? Something wrong on my end

Here is a quick question: What happens if I cannot finish a copyedit because the editor refuses to load? Would I need someone else to finish it for me, and if so, would I still need to count the article to my totals, get half credit, or would it count for the second copyeditor? If you've done a substantial amount of work and can't complete the copy edit by the end of the drive, I think that you should claim partial credit and either finish the copy edit after the drive or leave the article in such a state that someone else can finish it without duplicating your efforts, and take credit for whatever is accomplished within a blitz or drive. This could possibly be accomplished by converting an article copy edit tag to sectional ones, assuming that you haven't been locked out of editing altogether.
