Leaderboard Updater edit

Would anyone mind if I updated everyone's scores manually on the Leaderboard, instead of waiting for the user themselves to do it? Just asking in case it affects anyone. Thanks, Thatoneweirdwikier Say hi 18:49, 2 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Frankly, I do; we've always done it ourselves, and the coordinators are quick to catch any gaming. Thanks for your enthusiasm, but I have no problem with the present system. Have fun and all the best, Miniapolis 21:31, 2 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Request check for KABC-TV edit

I'd like to request another coordinator to check the copy edit of KABC-TV, which has had some pushback from another editor. I'd do it myself, but I'm in an editing dispute with the reverting editor over several articles from the last drive, and feel that I ought to keep a little distance from this one. Thanks. – Reidgreg (talk) 12:11, 11 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

I'll have a look. Twofingered Typist (talk) 22:00, 11 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
I also took a look and left my opinion on its talk page. Tdslk (talk) 22:32, 11 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
I used to ce articles on broadcast stations. I ran into a scornful revert-jerk and decided life was too short to continue. I don't know if this refers to that same "critic", but if it does it may be time to escalate. In any case, I salute editors who venture into those troubled waters. I've noticed that too with broadcast-station articles, which sometimes seem to be owned. The editors don't seem to mind the {{copy edit}} tag, but God forbid you change anything  . All the best, Miniapolis 14:47, 24 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Record low edit

We're a few articles short of halving the backlog this month, but it's still quite a record. Does anyone else find it scary for the backlog to be this low? (Or is the scary part when it bounces back up?) – Reidgreg (talk) 23:38, 31 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

It is very odd. There are 5,994,000+ articles on WP. It's a safe bet 5,000,000+ need some sort of copy edit work. So yes, it's strange the outstanding total today is 329 article! Twofingered Typist (talk) 13:36, 2 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Although I don't see us getting down to anywhere near zero (but am a bit concerned about copyediting quality), it's good to have a balance between workload and hands on deck. I bailed from WikiProject Wikify years ago because its backlog never seemed to go down  . All the best, Miniapolis 16:22, 2 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
I'm kind of torn on this one. As someone who has been active in the backlog reduction drives almost from the start, it's exciting and weird to see us so close to zero. (And I agree with Miniapolis that we might never get all the way to zero, but by the end of the March drive it is conceivable that the oldest tagged articles will be from December, at which point it's not really much of a "backlog.") I've argued before that the Guild's true goal shouldn't be to reduce as much as possible the number of articles tagged as needing copy editing, but to reduce as much as possible the number of articles needing copy editing. I actually have a few ideas about what we could do to that end, but I might want to move the conversation over to the main Guild page so that as many Guild members as possible see it. For now though, cheers to everyone for a fantastic drive! Tdslk (talk) 18:39, 2 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
