PGA TOUR article edit

Why does the introduction to the PGA TOUR focus on what it doesn't run? This is important information, but a summery statement (which is there) is all that is needed in the introduction. Also, if this information is still deemed to be appropriate in the introduction, it should be reviewed. It reads as a list now.

Something like this:

The PGA Tour is an organization that operates the USA's main professional golf tours. It is headquartered in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, USA. Its name is officially rendered in all caps as “PGA TOUR".

The PGA Tour became a separate entity in 1968, branching off from the PGA of America, which is now primarily an association of club professionals. (Before 1968, the tour was known as the PGA of America's "Tournament Players Division.")

The PGA TOUR organizes and administers the majority of high level professional golf events within the United States. It does not run the four Major (Masters, US Open, Open, and PGA) championships or the Ryder Cup. Beginning in 2007, the season culminates with a four tournament playoff for the "FedEX Cup" finishing with the TOUR Championship. The TOUR also hosts The PLAYERS Championship, a prestigious event in May.

In 1981, the PGA Tour had a marketing dispute with the PGA of America and decided to officially change its name. Beginning in late August 1981, it became the TPA Tour, for the "Tournament Players Association." [1] The disputed issues were resolved within seven months and the tour's name was changed back to the "PGA Tour" in March 1982, before any majors (or The Players Championship) were played. [2]

Top-importance Golf articles edit

There seem to be alot of these and not having been involved in WikiProject Golf, I don't feel it right for me to be going round changing them. These should only be the most important articles. Some examples that I don't feel qualify for top-importance include Lob wedge, Gap wedge, 2008 in golf, etc. Would it be possible for a WikiProject member to take a look and see if they agree, and if appropriate reclassify some. Thanks for noticing. The top-importance articles have been getting a little out of hand...I guess thats what can be expected with Wikipedia :) I'll go through them and reclassify if needed. Grovermj 04:17, 15 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
