Spring 2021 Season

I'm not sure if I saw some conversation about this here or somewhere else, but it looks like the ACC is going to have a Spring season in 2021. How should we go about adding these games to the team's pages? Do we make a new page for 2021 spring? Or re-name all the 2020 pages as 2020–21? Or just add this spring schedule to 2021 pages? I think the best course of action would be to create new pages for 2021 (Spring) since teams will have different rosters as some players will leave via the MLS draft and some will stay. Then we could have 2021 (Fall) teams for when that season starts. I'm not sure how that would effect nextyear and prevyear in the infobox templates though... Yes, that is what I'm thinking. Plus, I think it would avoid the hassle of the infobox templates. Not to mention several programs and conferences 1 2 are branding their tournaments and seasons as the "2020 season", despite playing 2021.

Unless reliable sources state otherwise, I think this makes the most sense. Same for team seasons. I don't keep too up to date on the NCAA, but the schedule is only different this school year due to COVID i.e. they haven't fully transitioned to a split season format like Europe, right? So anything that will take place this school year, even if played in 2021, should probably be referred to as the "2020 season", kind of like the Olympics. Presumably teams will play again in the Fall, which would then be the 2021 season.

Is there any reason not to have two separate templates for this i.e. Spring and Fall? I don't really know how the ACC is doing their second season, but I recall seeing something about a playoff for the NCAA tournament. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me to use one template, especially for an article like 2020 NCAA Division I men's soccer season which already has a division for Fall and Spring, but since I don't follow that conference at all I can't say for sure. Also, are the teams in each conference different for each season, or are they the same? If they're the same, you could probably just do "North/Atlantic" or "South/Coastal". Otherwise, I think two separate templates would be prudent. Jay eyem (talk) 16:57, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

To answer your questions above: no, the divisions are not the same. They separated north/south to reduce travel in the fall and now are back to the normal Atlantic/Coastal. The auto qualifier is going to be winner of Atlantic vs. winner of Coastal. Then winner of that plays Clemson. Swimmer33 (talk) 18:20, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

Ok, I made a separate template. It might need some clean up with the title for clarification. I tried to edit the old one to make it say Fall only but that wasn't really working out. Consensus needed for inclusion of college athlete parent categories

There is a consensus discussion underway about whether or not to include a parent category (in this case Category:College men's soccer players in the United States) in addition to the specific school category (for example Category:Akron Zips men's soccer players). One school of thought is that college athletics category structures should be similar, but another is that individual sport projects should be free to chart their own paths on the matter. Notability of U Sports

Hi everyone in WP:CSOC. I'm trying to understand Wikipedia's consensus of notability for NCAA soccer articles, and I wanted to see what everyone's opinion is on the notability for U Sports soccer in Canada? Obviously U Sports is a lot less notable than NCAA and likely draws less coverage than the NCAA College Cup, but I feel there are likely some topics of U Sports that can meet WP:GNG and WP:SIGCOV, and even WP:NSEASONS. • Just for my opinions, I feel like the following items are notable as far as U Sports goes for collegiate soccer (both men and women).
  • Each season of the U Sports men's soccer championship
  • Each season of the U Sports women's soccer championship
  • The U Sports men's soccer championship Most Valuable Player Award, not named, but the premier award for a men's soccer player in Canadian college soccer
  • The Gunn Baldursson Memorial Award, awarded for the top female player at the U Sports women's soccer championship
  • The season article for any team that wins or reaches the final of the U Sports men's and women's soccer championship
  • An article on the men's or women's soccer program for a U sports team that has at least reached the national U Sports championship
  • Any U Sports player that has won a national MVP award or was drafted first overall in the CPL–U Sports Draft SecretlyQuebecois (talk) 20:28, 13 October 2021 (UTC)

• I don't believe I have the requisite understanding of the U Sports landscape to provide an informed decision. I typically steer on the side of caution as it relates to notability, so would defer to significant coverage in reliable, independent, secondary sources. • @GauchoDude: So my story of starting to contribute was attending Clemson and noticing that the 2014 Clemson season had been made, so I started keeping it up and further maintaining it. I eventually expanded to the women's side, and never really knew about WP:GNG or WP:NSEASONS. I never really had an issue with admins approving the pages when they follow the template @Quidster4040: made. So I had a little more time on my hands as my work situation changed so I started making season pages for all the ACC soccer teams. Never really had an issue with anything getting not approved by admins and never had any of the pages get nominated for deletion. Citing sources for the new recruits from Top Drawer Soccer gives the pages some non-school related coverage and I think that helped with approval. Additionally, I create some college basketball seasons and they have even fewer references when created. I haven't had an issue with those pages being approved for men's basketball, but frequently the women's basketball seasons with the same number & quality of reference would get the ref improve tag on them, so I always felt that was kinda biased. We've also had the fight over if U women's soccer tournaments are notable and I think @Cobyan02069: can reference those nominations where they were approved to be kept up. So in general I feel like they are notable as long as references from Top Drawer soccer or United Soccer Coaches are provided. Swimmer33 (talk) 13:18, 14 October 2021 (UTC)
