First Time Setup window reappears upon each reload (Firefox/Win10)

Hello all, I just installed this tool to test its functionalities but unfortunately found myself unable to permanently dismiss the First Time Setup window which, regardless of me hitting Apply Settings and Continue, kept reappearing upon each reload. I already tried the most obvious solution of disabling any anti-tracking features and extensions on this website, but this hasn't solved the issue. Notably, this does not occur when using Edge. I doubt this will be particularly useful in diagnosing the issue, but here you go. AngryHarpytalk 09:46, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
Hi! We are currently looking for a fix for this, although for now you can append ,"firstTimeSetupComplete":"true" to the end of your redwarnConfig.js within the last curly brace, ie:
rw.config = {"lastVersion":"16","firstTimeSetupComplete":"true"};
Prompt0259 (talk) 10:07, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
That seems to have done the trick, thank you very much! AngryHarpytalk 10:17, 9 November 2020 (UTC)

Thank you

for adding the option to report to oversight. Can you please add the option to report to noticeboards and SPI? Thanks User3749 (talk) 12:42, 9 November 2020 (UTC)

@User3749, it's being planned, but I can't give any timeframe on when it when you might see it, other than hopefully soon :) Ed talk! 13:55, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
Ed6767 Also what I want is the ability to add own rollback reasons like I said before, but anyway thanks User3749 (talk) 08:00, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
User3749, is that different from clicking the (by default) blue recursive arrow that has the tooltip "Rollback"? —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 08:11, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
Tenryuu, no, it would be saved as a quick rollback so the next time you can use it without having to type the reason, it would just be like the quick rollback but the reasons could be customized or added User3749 (talk) 08:13, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
User3749, oh, you mean like creating your own specialised custom buttons. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 08:18, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
Tenryuu yes, so what I mean is if you have a commonly used rollback reason that is not included in RW then you can manually add the custom one User3749 (talk) 08:19, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
Read you loud and clear. That would be a nice addition. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 08:22, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
@Tenryuu @User3749, it is possible, and is something I'll think about, will probably need a rework of the current reordering system. however. Thanks for the suggestions! Ed talk! 14:39, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

Important RedWarn feature requests/bugs/changes

  • To avoid biting the newbies, the edit summary for level 1 warnings for vandalism and disruptive editing should be changed to "unconstructive editing".
  • Report users with linked diffs and attempts at resolution for edit warring
  • Request create protection for bad articles that have been created repeatedly
  • Report user to WP:ANI, with a large body of text explaining your case and what editor(s) you are discussing
  • Report users for sockpuppetry

Hi 4thfile4thrank, thanks for the suggestions! We are working on designing and adding those features as they have been on the roadmap for a while now. However, we want to make the best user experience possible, and along with our personal commitments, we cannot give a timeframe of when they'll be implemented other than in the near future. As for the edit summaries, I'd have to discuss this with other team members. Many thanks, Ed talk! 15:46, 19 November 2020 (UTC)

"New Message" feature

I wanted to add a test message at "User talk:Sandbox", but because "null" was the default target, I added the message at "User talk:Null". For example, if I want to add a message at "User talk:Sandbox", "sandbox" should be the default target. --NGC 54 (talk | contribs) 15:45, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi @NGC 54, this is a bug. I'm working on a fix now. Ed talk! 15:50, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
@NGC 54, this bug is now fixed by adding a dialog that will show if the underlying user doesn't exist, and also adding a safeguard that will prevent the user talk system from creating pages with the username "null" (along with "undefined", which was previously there) - if you have any more issues, please let us know. Other wikipedias

I hope this is the right place for this question. ¿Are there any plans to adapt the tool for use on other language wikipedias? From what I've seen in the source namespaces seem to be hardcoded as well as all strings which makes it harder but not impossible to translate. josecurioso ❯❯❯ Tell me! 17:33, 25 November 2020 (UTC) PD: To be clear I don't want this to come out as demanding, I'm just curious. josecurioso ❯❯❯ Tell me! 17:35, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

No worries, Josecurioso! Right now, there's an ongoing rewrite of RedWarn's entire codebase in order to properly support other wikis, as well as to add language localization. However, this rewrite will take quite a while to finish, and we've only just recently started, so we don't have an exact estimate as to when this will be completed. Chlod (say hi!) 17:42, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick response Chlod, I'll be sure to keep it in my radar and try to contribute when/if I can!. josecurioso ❯❯❯ Tell me! 19:00, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

Under Wikipedia:RedWarn § Easy to use: Modern, user-friendly UI, it says In addition, RedWarn uses Google's Material Design language to increase user experience. I'm not clear if "increase" is the appropriate verb. Is this a typo (perhaps "improve the user experience" was intended)? Or is there some other meaning? isaacl (talk) 04:39, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

Reverted by you now... isaacl (talk) 23:31, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
@Isaacl: We are currently rewriting the documentation, and Asartea reverted to the old documentation so that users won't see the WIP documentation. For now I've reapplied the change to the docs. Hope this cleared it up ―sportzpikachu my talkcontribs 23:58, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
Yes, I read your comment below. I was just noting the reversion since Asartea had marked the item as fixed. Perhaps the change can be made to the work-in-progress documentation? Is it available on Wikipedia? isaacl (talk) 00:07, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
@Isaacl: As of time of writing, the latest WIP revision is here. You can also check the last reverted revision on the page history, and I'll tell the doc team to put revert WIP or something in the edit summaries. If you have more questions, you can add them below, or come on our discord server. ―sportzpikachu my talkcontribs 07:55, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
Just curious: is there any particular reason why you're not using a sandbox page, rather than trying to work on the changes directly on this page and then reverting them? isaacl (talk) 15:33, 26 November 2020 (UTC)

@Isaacl: Thanks for the feedback! We are currently rewriting the entire documentation of RedWarn, and I'll let the documentation team know about this error. cc @Asartea and Berrely:sportzpikachu my talkcontribs 05:36, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

Warnings out of place?

I reverted and warned an editor who had already been blocked. I see that the warning was placed before six or seven other comments including the two block notices. There are three "November 2020" sections and my warning was placed at the end of the first Nov 2020 section. I have seen this happen with other warnings when there are sections following the current month/year section. I would think this might result in the wrong warning level, a warning left after a stale warning when there are more recent warnings, and the editor not seeing the warning. Should this be fixed? Thanks Adakiko (talk) 10:26, 26 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi Adakiko, RedWarn's system only reads up to the first date header on a page which is what might be causing this issue. We're thinking about rewriting the algorithm that adds warnings and other messages under date headers which should resolve your issue in the future. Thanks for the feedback :) Ed talk! 14:08, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
Ed6767 Maybe read up to the last current date header? Maybe inform the RedWarn user there is a current block before posting a warning? Thanks! Adakiko (talk) 18:30, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
