Implications for privilege/oppression Agreed with Wbm, this is a very interesting topic and I am glad you took the time to write this essay.

I think Wikipedia is a great resource and I support it a lot, but I sympathize with you, in that I also fear that it could easily lead to the exploitation of people who are predisposed to volunteerism. However, I also think an important point is to recognize who even has the privilege to be exploited this way. There have been a lot of critiques of male/white/rich hierarchies within Wikipedian culture.

I think this probably has a lot to do with what you are discussing in this article. Wikipedia naturally attracts people who have a respect and attraction to shared knowledge, but it is like that many people who are already disadvantaged by society in some way will not have the time/resources/energy to participate in knowledge sharing on Wikipedia, compared to people with more social advantages.

I do not really have any suggestions to counteract this. I just think it's something worth consider, on this topic.Pianosandwich (talk) 20:11, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
