Layout edit

Hi there, this sounds like a very nice program. However, it's insertion of headers is disruptive to readability and interpretation of the warnings on a user's talk page. The layout at WP:UW creates a neat and easy to read format that makes it simple to determine how many and how often a user's getting warnings. If you can build that layout into your tool, I think it would be a great thing. Thanks for your time and have a great day! —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 17:25, 26 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Firefox? edit

Can this program be run with Firefox? I have Windows Vista, and its says that it can be run with a Window's OS, so will it work with Firefox? --1312020Wikicop 18:55, 17 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Devisive edit

Mike's Wiki Tool is an anti-vandalism tool for Windows and Linux users. It is designed to be free of bloat, limitations on use and a cabal-like user base.

Should this be deleted? Seems to violate WP:NPA. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Scalene (talkcontribs) 08:19, 26 March 2007 (UTC).Reply

If you take a look at the page source, you'll see a comment there. Remove if you feel the need, but that was added with permission. --Michael Billington (talk) 10:41, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

404 edit

Well I'd love to try this, but I'm getting an Error 404 when I click the link to download it :) User:Veesicle 00:30, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I went into the directory above instead and took 092b. Hope that's okay. User:Veesicle 00:32, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Never mind, that doesn't work. Hrmpf. User:Veesicle 00:34, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've uploaded a newer version on a different server, one where files (hopefully) don't vanish like that. Try the new link. --Michael Billington (talk) 03:14, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

The source code link is also broken. —Travis C/T\U 16:59, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

It should all be fixed now. --Michael Billington (talk) 02:55, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

MWT isn't working! edit

When I try to start it, it checks to see if I'm on the user list like it normally would, but then it just closes itself! It worked flawlessly for a week, and I haven't changed anything. Anybody know what might be wrong? --Captain Yankee (Talk) 17:25, 14 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I tried re-downloading it just now, and that didn't work. --Captain Yankee (Talk) 21:42, 14 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

It must have fixed itself, because it's working now, and I didn't do anything to it. --Captain Yankee (Talk) 17:04, 17 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Diff loading edit

When I try to load MWT, the only diff it shows me is the latest one on the main page. Anyone know what's up? ~ Magnus animuM ≈ √∞ 23:36, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've noticed it just now. I'm going to assume that the format of the recent changes feed has changed. With any luck, this should be an easy fix. I'll get to work on it as soon as I'm home (an hour and a half from now) --Michael Billington (talk) 04:26, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ok, even easier than I thought. Open up your settings file (should be settings.txt in the 'Data' folder). Right at the top, just under the <MWT>, and without changing any other lines, add:

<api:rc>?action=query&list=recentchanges&rcprop=user|comment|title|ids|sizes&rcshow=anon&rclimit=50</api:rc>

That should fix the problem in the latest version. I'll make a new release later today, with this change. I hope this helps. --Michael Billington (talk) 04:50, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

That fixed the problem for me. Thanks Mike. --Rigel1 02:25, 24 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'm afraid that I'm still experiencing problems. Adding the above line does get the pages loading again, but it's reporting that reverts have already been made by the user who caused the initial damage. For example, if I try to revert changes by 206.189.X.X, MWT will report that the page has already been reverted by 206.189.X.X. When I manually go to the page in question, no such revert has been made. LordCo 03:22, 25 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I concur, exactly the same problem occurs for me on every attempted revert, rendering the tool unusable. Winchelsea 12:02, 26 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'm having the same problems too. Guess I'll have to use the Anti-vandal tool for a while. --Captain Yankee (Talk) 19:42, 28 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
As some of you may know from this week's signpost, the MediaWiki APIs have been changing a bit lately. The problem of history loading can be fixed in a similar way to above, adding the following line to your config file (at the top)
<api:hist>?action=query&prop=revisions&titles=(page)&rvlimit=20&rvprop=timestamp|user|comment|ids</api:hist>
This fixes the problem for me, I'll add it to the latest release now. --Michael Billington (talk) 09:35, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ok, all done. Please download the latest version if you are affected by this (and all users are, as far as I know) --Michael Billington (talk) 09:57, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Works like a charm. Thank you. LordCo 15:44, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I re-downloaded it, but I keep getting an error message saying:

Run-time error '5' edit

This seems to be a problem with my computer. Whenever I run MWT, I get a VB Run-time error '5' error. This comes as soon as I double click on the exe. Does anyone know how can I get MWT running? Anshuk 04:44, 2 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Closed/Un-closed edit

Hey guys. I think it's become pretty clear since about september that I don't have enough time to keep working on MWT. And seeing as it does not appear that the current version is working, I've replaced the page with a message to explain what the tool did, for anyone who clicks an old edit summary.

Depending on how things go, I may endeavour to re-write the code in a few months. Until then, I'd better not leave a misleading page here. Sorry guys. :) --Michael Billington (talk) 11:48, 16 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've patched the older, simpler version 0.9.4 and changed the page to reflect that. The "current" version (.0.9.5) is still not working and looks like it will take a lot of fixing. This means a few old (fairly minor) bugs have come back. I'd better list them so you know that I'm aware of them:
  • The clicking sounds from the browser window (every 30 seconds when it reloads recent changes too). Very annoying
  • The terrible warning interface. No you can't type out your own warning. It's templates only for this version. Probably the worst problem with this version.
  • The only-works-on-en-wikipedia problem.
  • The config file format is back to XML again, and the interface messages can't be edited.

Userbox edit

Is it possible to create an userbox of MWT tool?--NAHID 10:26, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

 This user fights vandalism with MWT.
I've made a userbox which you can add to your userpage with {{User:MichaelBillington/MWT/Userbox}}. Feel free to edit it if you don't like the wording/colours/etc. Cheers. --Michael Billington (talk) 06:14, 2 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Report to AIV edit

Is there anyway to report a user to the AIV using your program? Thanks in advance! --On the other side Contribs|@ 23:55, 17 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Not at the moment. It's something that I've been meaning to add for a while. The target of MWT has really shifted from en.wiki to MediaWiki installations in general, and seeing as each wiki has its own process for AIV (or none at all), it sort of complicates things. It's a high priority though— everyone keeps asking about it. Cheers. :) --Michael Billington (talk) 11:43, 29 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

A Tweak edit

If you modify the 'warnings-enwiki' file in the data folder of MWT saved locally, you can add more templates. For example, the first bit of my 'warnings' file now reads:
<UserWarnings> <warnings id="Vandalism"> <warning title="Welcome-anon-vandal" text="Welcome to Wikipedia."/> <warning title="uw-vandalism1" text="Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. Some of your recent...

This way, I get the 'welcome anon vandal' template as an option; useful when you meet 1st time users who are just fooling around. Thanks for the cool tool, Theone00 (talk) 23:47, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

pt:wiki edit

Hi Mike; I'm using mwt in en:wiki and I'd like to use it in pt:wiki too. I'm not a programmer but I can tranlate all the necessary texts, if it helps. Regards Caiaffa (talk) 23:41, 19 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

How does it work? edit

I ran across this page because some vandalism was cleaned up on the article I was following, clicked the link, but have NO idea how this tool does what it does. Could somebody provide a simple explanation. Your in Wikidom, GeorgeLouis (talk) 17:34, 2 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Fantastic tool edit

I love using this program. However, there are some things I would like to see.

  1. Standardized organization of User Notifications/Warnings per Wikipedia:WikiProject user warnings. For example:

==Warnings==
{{subst:s/wnote}}

===March 2007===
# warning
# warning
* block
# warning

===April 2007===
# warning
#: comment about warning
#:: comment
# warning
* block

I would like to choose from all of the available template messages, and it wouldn't hurt to have the option to add comments and preview your post. I feel that the display of previous warnings could more easily show the date/nature/severity of existing warnings or previous blocks. I like to use Template:uw-joke1, for example, every once in a while and would like to be able to do so from within the program. I would like for the warnings to be obviously discrete, possibly with some sort of safeguard to prevent more than one user from warning a user about the same particular edit. # 2.Oh, and of course the ability to add IPs to AIV, along with notes and rationale. I can't remember the rest. Well, thanks again!

User list messed up edit

The latest edit to User:MichaelBillington/MWT/Users can't be right, surely? Perhaps the semi-protection is messing it up. I have undone it, since it is erroneously transcluding {{editsemiprotected}}, which is categorising the page under Category:Non-talk pages requesting an edit to a semi-protected page.
