Userbox Debate edit

Dude. you seriously need to cutdown on your userboxes :D. The only thing they currently say about you, is that you frantically collect UB'es - The DJ 13:11, 16 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

No they don't. They also say a lot about me! Like my name, what I like, and other stuff! Scalene 06:55, 17 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
You could say all of that information more succinctly, elegantly and with more personal flair if you wrote a few paragraphs about yourself and deleted all of the userboxes. CuiviénenT|C|M, Thursday, 18 May 2006 @ 02:58 UTC
Man thats a lot of userboxes. Why not remove a few of them and turn them into paragraphs? Makes it a bit easier to read. Loompyloompy313 14:43, 28 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Allright, I've come up with a solution. I'm creating a 'userbox biography.' It can be viewed at User:Scalene/Userboxes - but, I'm going to need help. I'm removing every single user box from my page, but I'd like to know what userboxes should be kept. Scalene 09:48, 19 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I just counted your userboxes. You have 259. I see nothing wrong with collecting userboxes. You may want to consider number 260--one that says how many you have. Here is the code: {{User:UBX/ubx num|number of userboxes you have}}. Happy collecting! Savie Kumara 05:31, 29 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Looking for Alibrandi edit

Did you edit Looking for Alibrandi into an article solely about the movie? As the movie came after the book, was of arguably lesser quality and had a number of differences in plot, do you not think this was inappropriate? Instead of getting rid of all the information regarding the book, you could have instead split the article into Looking for Alibrandi and Looking for Alibrandi (movie). --Kronecker 03:24, 12 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps, but Looking FOr Alibrandi is part of Wikiproject:WikiFilms, an effort to collect all the world's films. The tag was there as well. I went with my gut instinct. Scalene 08:43, 19 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Logo on Template:Dundee United F.C. Squad page edit

I'm all for it - although a much smaller size - but it will no doubt be removed shortly. I think logos are only allowed on the main club page and that is all. Great idea, though, and it looks very good. Fedgin 09:39, 19 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

You know, it loks good - but I think it should stay. It's a lot easier than looking at the title, in my opinion. You instantly know what the club is. Personally, I thought it made the page more 'personal'. Scalene 09:45, 19 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Esperanza! edit

Welcome, Scalene, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact our administrator general Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Opposition to the Iran-Iraq war edit

I'm not sure where we go from here. I think the issues have been outlined quite simply and accurately in the RFC. We have numerous articles about opposition to various wars. They discuss demonstrations, editorials, speeches against the referenced wars. This article has some anecdotal reports of desertion (concentrating on one side only). That's it. Fan-1967 17:12, 26 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I might also note that the opinions I have expressed are fundamentally the same as those in LittleDan's AFD nom. Fan-1967 17:54, 26 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I commented on the deletion, though, as Fan-1967 says, our opinions are basically the same. LittleDantalk 19:40, 26 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hey! Thanks for your comments. However, I think you should understand that a RfC is not a decision making process. All I do is try and help all parties reach a compromise they are happy with.
Also, I ask that you raise any issues you have in the RfC section. That way, Patch can easily view them. Also, I don't have to go back and forth between pages that way... ;D ScaleneUserPageTalkContributionsBiographyЄ 22:42, 26 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

The verifiability rule edit

I disagree with your comment about there being cases where an article would not need a reliable source. WP:V is not negotiable, and it says If an article topic has no reliable, third-party sources, Wikipedia should not have an article on it. (often, this is termed Verifiability, not Truth)

Secondly, "using the program yourself" to find facts out is the very definition of original research, which isn't allowed on Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a publisher of original thought, so synthesis of facts from source material (which "using the program yourself" would count as) would be original research.

All articles should be sourced. The fact that many articles do not is because we don't have enough people checking articles, and because new people to Wikipedia don't understand this. ColourBurst 23:30, 26 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Godwin's law edit

November Esperanza Newsletter edit

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Just a couple of wee tips edit

Hi, just saw your edit to User talk:BurnsvilleisGay, and wanted to pointr a couple things out:

When using certain template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.

and:

As a courtesy for other editors, it is a Wikipedia guideline to sign your talk page and user talk page posts. To do so simply add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments and your user name or IP address and the date will be automatically added along with a timestamp. Signing your comments helps people to find out who said something and provides them with a link to your user/talk page (for further discussion). For further info see the talk page guidelines. Thank you.

By the way, I'd already blocked that account due to their user name. Keep up the great work mate!  Glen  07:53, 23 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Shift.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Shift.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Mistake using Popups? edit

Re your edit: on Talk:Healthy diet "08:55, 15 February 2007 Scalene (Talk | contribs) (Revert to the revision prior to revision 108288703 dated ..." If you look at only one previous edit it might look as if some comments were being deleted, but if you look at both previous edits you see that user Zeroin147 was merely editing the user's own comments. You should always provide an informative edit summary when reverting (i.e. "see talk" or an actual explanation of why you're reverting, not just the Popups edit summary) unless it's obvious vandalism. I think the version you reverted to had two copies of Zeroin147's comments. So it's not that big a deal. --Coppertwig 02:27, 16 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikiproject Narnia Newsletter March 2007 edit

WikiProject Narnia Newsletter
Issue 1 - 2nd March 2007 . Written by User:Sp3000 (talkcontribs)
WikiProject Narnia News
  • The WikiProject has been a little quiet lately. There are still quite a lot of Narnia stubs. It has been nearly three months since we last worked on Minor characters in The Chronicles of Narnia, which still looks very much like a draft page. That would be a nice article to get into the main namespace.
Good and Featured Articles
Other news
  • WikiProject Narnia's first newsletter issue has been published. You're looking at it right now!
Member News
To-do

  1. Add characters and bios to minor character draft page.
  2. Expand Narnia stubs.
  3. Link the first mention of a year in all Narnia-related articles to Narnian timeline.
  4. Rewrite character articles to use the Narnian character example article format.
  5. Adopt an article and improve it to the best of your ability.
  6. Wikify The Chronicles of Narnia article, especially the new lead and Narnian Universe sections
From the founder

I am proud to present our first issue of the WikiProject Narnia Newsletter. I decided that we needed to alert everybody who had expressed interest in the project that there is much work to be done! Please check in every once in a while at the project talk page, and tell other project members what you've been up to in terms of Narnia articles.

Article of the Month: Edmund Pevensie
  • Edmund Pevensie is a major character in The Chronicles of Narnia. He appears as a principal character in three of the seven books. Edmund was the second to enter Narnia, although he tried to betray his siblings to the White Witch. However, Edmund managed to help save Narnia by neutralizing the White Witch's most powerful weapon, her wand.
Collaboration of the Month: Shasta (Narnia)
  • Shasta is currently quite short and not much of his background has been mentioned. The article also lacks images – but make sure if you upload one, you include a FU rationale. Contribute!

Hi Scalene,

Category talk:User namespace templates
I’ve added User:Scalene/Userpages/Rounded, a template for a userpage that allows a user to create a default page. It needs a home, however. Any ideas?

Just spotted the above, went to the page and think it looks good!  Category:User namespace templates would seem a suitable home if you placed a copy of the page in the Template namespace, i.e. created a copy of it named Template:Userpage template or the like. Fair use rationale for Image:Shift.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Shift.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 15:56, 4 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Looking For Alibrandi Film.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Looking For Alibrandi Film.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. I removed the PROD that you placed on Encyclopedia Dramatica for multiple reasons. First of all, this article has been through about a dozen AfDs, so PROD doesn't qualify. Furthremore, there are multiple reliable sources that are specifically about ED itself, so it meets WP:WEB. The last AfD for this article was barely a month ago and it resulted in a keep, so taking it to AfD again would not be a good idea, as we'd only end up with a 300-page debate like with the last AfD. If you feel that the inclusion of a page on Encyclopedia Dramatica "encourages vandalism on Wikipedia", then I would suggest taking it up on the talk page instead. Calling all active WP:NOVELS members edit

WikiProject Novels Roll Call

WikiProject Novels is currently holding a roll call, which we hope to have annually. Your username is listed on the members list, but we are unsure as to which editors are still active within the project. If you still consider yourself an active WP:Novels editor, please add your name back to the Active Members list. Also feel free to join any of our task forces and take a look at the project's Job Centre to get involved!

Next month we will begin the coordinator election selection process. We hope to have more involvement and input this time around! More news will be forthcoming. Thanks, everyone! María (habla conmigo) 13:35, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I saw your very funny infoboxes edit

And we have a few things in common. Mostly, though, do you know anything about using Wikimedia Commons? After that, maybe we can discuss stuff like NCIS, criminals, religion, and other stuff. Deal? Smiling, --leahtwosaints (talk) 00:19, 13 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Moved page from Template space to your userspace edit

I have moved User:Scalene/Userpage_Rounded_Template from template space to your userspace. It didn't seem to belong out there in it's current form and didn't really seem to be a template.--Doug.(talk contribs) 00:52, 11 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Notification of automated file description generation edit

Your upload of File:Artix Entertainment.gif or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! My wachlist listed at Redirects for discussion edit

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect My wachlist. Since you had some involvement with the My wachlist redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. Redrose64 (talk) 13:43, 12 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom 2018 election voter message edit

Hello, Scalene. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Artix Entertainment.gif edit

Thanks for uploading File:Artix Entertainment.gif. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 15:56, 8 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
