Commons category edit

Aigantighe Art Gallery – there is a category on Commons of photos of this gallery. Isn't there a template for "Commons has media related to (topic)"? I couldn't find it. Or maybe a gallery at the bottom of the page would be better? MurielMary (talk) 09:05, 22 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Here it is; I've added it here as an example. I don't really like this template as it is much better to do this properly (in my view) and create a link via Wikidata. There are different ways of going about it but in case you have both an article and know the category name on Commons, the following is easiest:
  • On the Commons category page, at the bottom of the left sidebar is a heading "In Wikipedia" and underneath it an edit field labelled "add links". Click on that.
  • A dialogue box opens with two fields. Define the language in the first field as "en", with tells it that you are making a link to an article on the English WP. In the second field, enter the article name. Then click the button "Link with page".
  • You may then have to confirm that the system has found the correct set of articles (in case the article exists in more than one language).
The advantage of doing the above is that it also creates a Wikidata entry in case there hasn't been one already. This was the case for Aigantighe Art Gallery. Schwede66 18:29, 22 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks very much, that's super helpful! Any opinion on whether it's more useful to a reader to have that template or to put the images in the article as a gallery? MurielMary (talk) 21:53, 22 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Not sure, TBH. Schwede66 08:18, 23 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Wikidata queries edit

Is there a way to run a WD query that shows which items already have WP articles and which don't? For example the query on Chch City Library branches (great job team!) shows the WD items but to see whether each item has an article you need to click into each item. @Ratso56: TIA! @Ratso56: See above (MurielMary, notifications get triggered only by placing a signature and a ping in the same edit). I wonder why the query does not pick up Woolston Library or Lyttelton Library? Schwede66 08:18, 23 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Schwede66: Those links go to WikiQuote :-) MurielMary (talk) 08:59, 23 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
