Any thoughts on a venue? I'm open to nearly any place in the city proper -- Hyde Park, Loop, north side, etc. — Dan | talk 18:18, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I will attend any meetup I can either walk to in Hyde Park or get to via CTA.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 18:32, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'd be coming from the Joliet area, probably by way of Union Station or LaSalle Street Station, so it'd be nice if it were somewhere not difficult to reach from there. —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 06:00, 13 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
My restriction is more date/time than location. I should be able to make it anywhere in the Chicago area. Jpers36 (talk) 18:58, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Okay then, let's also talk about date and time. I'm thinking late August on a Saturday or Sunday -- the 23rd, 24th, 30th, or 31st, in the mid-afternoon or early evening. — Dan | talk 19:00, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • That sounds manageable. Mackensen (talk) 19:51, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • I can't make the 23rd -- I'll be at Northerly Island for a concert -- but I think any of the other dates would work for me. If the 23rd is better for others, though, I understand. Jpers36 (talk) 20:37, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
    • Well, it looks like Mackensen prefers late August too. How does the 30th sound? — Dan | talk 23:03, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
      • I'll be out of town Aug 30, but I'm not sure other weekends will work, so don't change plans on my account. -- DS1953 talk 17:29, 2 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Looks like these are our restrictions:

  • Jpers36 - Not Aug 23, yes Aug 30
  • Mackensen - yes Aug 30
  • DS1953 - not Aug 30, possibly not other weekends either
  • Amerique - after Aug 20
  • Gimme danger - after late Sept.
  • Arcayne - Sept.
  • EVula - after first weekend in Sept.
  • Glass Cobra - Aug 31-Sept 14
  • KyuuA4 - Sept 13 or 27. Well, can do Sundays too.
  • Jredmond - unknown restrictions

So, if we go with August 30th we ought to have a decently-sized event, though we'll end up losing a few people. How about putting it off a bit, until September 13th - the second Saturday in September? (If this is no better, then I think we should just go with August 30th.) — Dan | talk 18:13, 11 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'd like to come (here in Evanston, now), but I couldn't make the 30th. Madcoverboy (talk) 23:32, 13 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm only around for another week or so. :( Is this happening? GlassCobra 19:09, 6 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

People who are committed to meeting should just pick a time and place. Whoever can show up, will. (My evening schedule is flexible this month.) Ameriquedialectics 21:27, 7 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Out of town weekend of the 19th - 21st Sept. Looking on my calendar, the 27th is the best day. KyuuA4 (talk) 18:06, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Apologies for my absence -- I've been far busier than I expected the past few weeks. I am still interested in attending a meetup, and I'll be in town most weekends for the next month or two. — Dan | talk 18:33, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Restart edit

How about restarting this. I live in St. Louis and would love to come to Chicago for a meetup.--Adam in MO Talk 14:06, 31 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

eChicago symposium meeting and panel edit

I am a graduate student at the University of Illinois in the Library Champaign-Urbana and Information Science program and a very occasional Wikipedia editor. My professor, Kate Williams, is mobilizing me to recruit Chicago Wikipedians for a panel at the April 2010 eChicago symposium hosted at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Basically, eChicago is a symposium held and attended by information professionals, educators, policy makers, and researchers with roots in Community informatics.

Kate Williams, published researcher, practitioner, and my professor, is a co-chair of the symposium. I'm not exactly sure what she is envisioning, but I imagine it is something like a mass of Wikipedia editors representing Chicago and educating the symposium attendees.

This could be a really great meetup--a chance not only to meet one another, but to make some sort of impact on how these people use and view Wikipedia (or, at the very least, it will look good on your resume!).

Let me know if you are interested!

As of March 2010, we're planning on this event. See Wikipedia:Meetup/Chicago_3. Katewill (talk) 08:20, 22 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
