Ebikeguy

Hi! My student already has rollback, and wants to learn Huggle and Igloo. Can you please get him an instructor that can teach him these? Thanks, Electriccatfish2 (talk) 22:45, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

Ask Tarheel, he is the only one who knows both. Dan653 (talk) 00:07, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

WT pages

These WT pages are so gosh-darn convoluted. Can we not merge them together somehow, into one mega page, possibly with sections for different topics? It's just quite annoying to have all these pages scattered who knows where --> Dan, as the new co-leader (XD JK - ah, the responsibility) of this clan, can you get on that? :) Theopolisme TALK 23:31, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

There are only three talk pages the "mega" one here, this one and the status one. I think you're getting the impression that they are scattered because everyones talk especially Acho's has a least one CVU topic on it. I think as "clan" co-leader we all need to work to putting CVU topics on cvu pages (only three of them) and staying off peoples talks unless it deals directly with them. Dan653 (talk) 00:07, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Will do, chief. And that's exactly what I mean.. the User Talk pages. Would it be wise for you and Acho to add an alert (like the "The purpose of this page.." yadda-yadda at the top of this one when in edit view) to the edit view of your talk pages reminding users of the fact? Theopolisme TALK 00:10, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
I'll ask Acho if he wants an edit notice, but I don't, I just find them ugly and they slow the page load time. Dan653(talk) 00:14, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
(bratty voice) Well SA-REE. .... JK Honestly, I actually don't like them either. But they may serve a purpose.. we'll see what Achowat thinks. (cue Waiting for Superman Achowat music) Theopolisme TALK 00:20, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Well, the obvious thing is to use WT:CVUA instead of just using User talk:Achowat. Just a thought. Achowat(talk) 03:51, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
?? --- Whatchu be talkin' bout? .... We were discussing whether or not to add an alert to those editing your or Dan's talk pages that if their edits are CVUA related, they should be added to WT:CVUA. And, since it just involved y'all two (as the leaders or what have you of this group), Dan just posed the question to you. Theopolisme TALK 04:01, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
All Acho is saying is that if we just posted to project talk pages we wouldn't have to have this discussion and I don't think Acho wants an edit notice.
Conclusion Unless your concern relates directly to the user, post whatever it is to a project talk page. (gavel banged)Dan653 (talk) 15:37, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Concur - No need for an edit notice. Achowat (talk) 15:43, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Fishingking

Can we get anyone to take up Fishingking? He's already a rollbacker and would like more training with the tool.Electriccatfish2 (talk) 19:00, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

hey

Please see Wikipedia_talk:Counter-Vandalism_Unit/Academy#hey. I have replied there. Dan653 (talk) 01:30, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

New instructor

I would like A new instructor because my old one, Riley Huntley keeps stalking me, wont train me, Joins in my conversations and keeps critizing me because I did this or I did that. And Can you make sure my new instructor will help me use Twinkle. Thanks- Grizzly1110 (talk) 20:18, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

Yes, please get him a new instructor, also, Grizzly check my talk page to see why I reverted your edit when you blanked that page, I do not have time to place a talk back message. Cheers,
Riley Huntley   (Click here to reply)   20:20, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
I think that it would be appropriate to  N Grizzly from the academy. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 01:25, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
Agreed, besides he no longer meets the checklist. Cheers,
Riley Huntley talk No talkback needed; I'll temporarily watch here. 01:27, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

AutoWikiBrowser

Hi, I recently signed up for the Academy. When I applied I stated that I wanted to learn about Huggle and STiki, but would it also be possible to learn about AutoWikiBrowser here? I find AWB particularly complex compared to other tools... Thanks! —JmaJeremyƬalkCont 16:01, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

I definetly agree with you, it is a baffling tool, but a very powerful and useful tool. Let me see if I can work it in to the academy, or if not I can just give you some pointers outside of the academy. Dan653 (talk) 16:34, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
I agree with Dan wholeheartedly. All of the instructors have been here a while, and some use AWB, so it wouldn't be crazy to ask for help (just like it wouldn't be crazy to ask for help from any experienced user). Achowat (talk) 18:02, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
(Warning: Rambling Whine) I'm just annoyed that some of the really cool programs only run on PCs. Macs, UNITE! Ah well... at least we get STiki/Igloo/TW :D Theopolisme TALK 18:06, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
Macs suck. Dan653 (talk) 18:09, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
Elaborate on that thought a bit. Theopolisme TALK 18:10, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
Why? I was talking about macs... Dan653 (talk) 18:12, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
I'm not going to say a word, not one word... (Side Note: I googled that to see where I remembered the quote from, and came up with literally 50 e-cigarette forum pages... I'm not going to say a word, not one word...) Theopolisme TALK 18:17, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
:P Yay, I tested you gulibilty meter and you scored a 10, but really... if you take a Mac and a PC (as I did once) with the exact same specs and you compare them the Mac costs $600 more. Why? I don't know. Dan653 (talk) 18:22, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

Cause it looks prettier, of course! Haven't you ever head of beauty-flation? In the words on a true Southern woman, "Good gracious me, honey... those easterners!" Theopolisme TALK 18:31, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

I don't give a shit how it looks. If it gets the same job done for cheaper you can save the money for something else like a Google nexus 7. Dan653 (talk) 18:33, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
Southern woman again. "Agh, the LANGUAGE, Danny-boy!" /// Ah, you've been to the playground? I find that the corniest ad campaign ever, btw. Theopolisme TALK 18:36, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
Lol, but really, isn't all language in the eye of the beholder? What one finds offensive another might not. Dan653(talk) 18:38, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
So you're one of those right-wingers.. jk I honestly don't care. Theopolisme TALK 18:41, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
My goodness gracious no. I'm probably more liberal than most. Dan653 (talk) 18:45, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

Feel free to award yourselves one, on my behalf. Achowat (talk) 18:54, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
Now that Acho is just too kind... Theopolisme TALK 18:55, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
Hm, I didn't realize there would be discussion at my enrollment request as well, so now I've created two threads! I do most editing on a Mac, but by now I've resorted to keeping one of my desktops dedicated to a virtual machine of Windows 7 what with all the programs that won't run on Mac. At least STiki though seems to run better on a Mac...whenever I try to use it on my PC it freezes after a while!
I have tried running AWB with a list from Special:NewPages to auto tag and correct spelling, but I can't help feeling like there's not much point in tagging every new page as an orphan. I've seen in page histories where people have been doing things such as fixing disambiguation links and sorting stub types, but I haven't been able to find any documentation on how to do these things. —JmaJeremyƬalkCont 03:08, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
Jma, I'll give you some pointers tommorow. Dan653 (talk) 21:36, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

Can we put in place some sort of guidelines/process for dealing with new enrollees? Namely, to address:

  1. When to remove them from the list of Active Requests to Enroll (immediate? or some delay, in order for everyone to see?)
  2. What to do with taken Requests to Enroll - would it be beneficial to have a bot archive them after a certain tag is placed there (the archiving could also be delayed, to go with #1...?)

Just pondering. :) Theopolisme TALK 15:18, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Theopolisme brings up a valid point. I generally put the   Already done template after the request if the enrollee is taken and then remove the request when they have responded on their talk page. It would be beneficial to have a bot archive requests, though.Electriccatfish2 (talk) 15:49, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
So -- configure a bot to, say 5 days after the Already Done template is placed, move the request to archives and then we can also configure an archive index so you can search for a specific user, for example if there is later some problem. Can we try to gain consensus on this, my friends? A support? An oppose? Just so we don't do something we don't all agree on.
Consesus will be determined by Acho or Dan, July 22, unless 9 "support" or "oppose" votes are achieved. Dan653 (talk) 22:11, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Support

  1. Support as proposer. Theopolisme TALK 16:26, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Do we need a bot to handle the Enroll page?

So, let's get into the specifics about doing this. Can MizzaBot (or a similiar, approved bot) actually do what we're asking it to do, are you talking about opening a Bot Request? Because I know WP:PERM/R, which is far more trafficked than here, doesn't use Bots and simply removes the requests. Achowat (talk) 14:04, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

No, we are not talking about a bot request. Also, WP:PERM/R does use a bot, User:KingpinBot. Lastly, I think we can use it, and it would be helpful. Dan653 (talk) 14:36, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
A quick look at KingpinBot's BRFA seems to suggest that it can only work in the WP:PERM area. I don't think we'd be able to use it.Achowat (talk) 14:42, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
O, but they do use a bot :P Well Theo said something about using Cluebot, so I want to hear what he has to say. Dan653(talk) 14:45, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
For what I'm talking about, take a look at the how to archive section on ClueBot's page- we can just use the "archivenow" parameter that archives that thread when the already done template is placed on that thread. The one change it would require is each user entry would need to be its own heading - potentially a Level 3? I could just copy the code from Request for Rollback or similar that includes the whole "click here to submit your request", and then has a prefilled level 3 heading that has spaces for everything users should enter. Am I making sense? Theopolisme TALK 15:01, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
Plenty. Could you demonstrate it in your sandbox, and if we all like it we can switch to it. Dan653 (talk) 15:03, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

Sure. I'm just going to make a pho-enroll page (copy the wikicode over there), and then will post a link when done (probably later today, I need to eat breakfast.) Theopolisme TALK 15:07, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

Doing... - For the instructions on how to make a custom request, I'm putting them in as an editnotice when a user clicks on "add request", similar to what happens at the Apply for Permissions pages - consensus? Simply because a user needs to know how to add a request (replace this text, don't add a subject, blah blah blah). Just making sure there are no objections. Theopolisme TALK 16:31, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
No objections, let us know when your done :) Dan653 (talk) 20:27, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
Please see: User:Theopolisme/CVUAEnroll -- Note: Still waiting on ClueBot to get around to archiving that page, but everything is configured. :) Let me know your thoughts! Theopolisme TALK 01:36, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
Looks amazing how soon can you get it up and running? Dan653 (talk) 17:00, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
It's 100% functional now. ClueBot just characteristically takes a while to get around to new pages - if everyone wants to take a look and make sure it's good with them, I'll then go in there, reconfigure it for the Wikipedia namespace (ie change links), and then move it to Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit/Academy/Enroll with very very little (like literally 5 minutes for ItsZippy - our friendly admin -to reconfigure the edit notice) downtime! Sound good? Theopolisme TALK 17:04, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
The sooner the better. Dan653 (talk) 17:06, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Rollback and ItsZippy

Also, we should have a page where instructors can request rollback for their students and ItsZippy can decide if he wants to give it or not. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 19:12, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

I strongly disagree that we should be treating Zippy as our "resident admin" and going through him exclusively. We should be usingWP:PERM/R as frequently as possible. The Academy needs to exist as part of the community, not seperate from it.Achowat (talk) 19:16, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
Support Acho 100% - Strongly Disagree with bugging Zippy. Theopolisme TALK 19:18, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
I strongly agree with Achowat. While I am more than happy to help in an administrative capacity when necessary, the academy must remain community-focused and open to outside influence, which means using WP:PERM as well as coming directly to me. Although I treat all candidates for rollback (from PERM, private requests or the CVUA) equally, it would be wrong to avoid the normal channels just because I am here; we must remain completely transparent (which, to date, I think we have done) and the community must be integral.ItsZippy (talkcontributions) 19:54, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
On a related but slightly different note, I'm not entirely comfortable with implementing consensus on discussions that I've been involved in. While I'm happy to make uncontroversial changes or act when I've not been involved in a discussion, I don't want to be determining consensus (such as for the editnotice) when I've been involved - it would be good if another admin could do that.ItsZippy (talkcontributions) 19:56, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
Zippy bring up a vailid point. Also, I think Zippy would rather be treated as an instructor than as an admin here, and we should all respect that. He's here because he is a great vandal-fighter, not because we need an admin here. He does a great job here and doesn't need to do all of the sysop tasks for us. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 19:59, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
O, come on guys we all know we can bribe Zippy with barnstars :P Dan653 (talk) 20:27, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
