Closing vs summarizing

edit

I think that one of the problems that we have with asking someone to close a discussion is that our terms aren't clear. Among editors who try to be a little more precise, "closing" seems to mean slapping {{Discussion top}} and {{Discussion bottom}} tags around it, to stop people from adding more comments. The task of posting a summary statement is a separate step, and it's possible (not even unusual) to do one without doing the other.

Also, both closing and summarizing happen in many more discussions than just RFCs. WhatamIdoing (talk) 05:27, 27 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Reminder of Wikipedia:Discussions for discussion

edit

Just a reminder that Wikipedia:Discussions for discussion exits as a venue for those planning to close discussions to seek advice on their assessment of consensus in those discussions. Cheers! BD2412 T 23:49, 9 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
