My name is Serbino Sandifer-Walker and I am trying to post a page on Holly Hogrobrooks, who is an unsung civil rights icon from Houston. She died January 22, 2016. I have written extensively about her in Houston media. I am a journalist and journalism professor and a piece I wrote on her is featured on my university's website. Thus, your editor found the piece and said what I had created in the Wikipedia space was copyrighted material. The content I posted here (Wikipedia) was similar to the content on my university website. Thus, my question, How do I post content on Wikipedia about Holly Hogrobrooks using the content I have written about her in other publications? Please advise.
Additionally, I am having difficulty learning how to construct the Wikipedia page. Can someone help me with the construction of a Wikipedia page? is there a video?

- Hi SSWalker. You describe Hogrobrooks as "unsung". That usually means a person is an unsuitable topic for a stand alone Wikipedia article, because the encyclopedia only covers topics that have attracted significant attention by the world at large. If you are the only, or almost only, person to have written about her, then it may not be possible to create an article focused solely on her. She could be covered in a broader article, perhaps Civil rights movement in Houston, provided that several people have written about that topic.
- It is sometimes possible to reuse in Wikipedia text to which you hold the copyright. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for how. Because an encyclopedia is written in a different style than other works, it is usually easier to rewrite the material than to attempt reuse.
- You may find Wikipedia:Tutorial helpful. It's mostly text and images, but includes some short videos. What would benefit the draft the most, formatting-wise, would be to position each inline citation immediately after the text it supports. - User:Harsh1070 - You had already moved the draft into article space when you asked this question. Since the article has been nominated for deletion, what you need to do is to improve the quality of the references to establish corporate notability. I created a draft main article "January 1918" that redirects to "1918". How do I correct this? --Freeman1856

- Hi Freeman1856. I'm not sure I understand your question. January 1918 exists in mainspace as a redirect to 1918, but neither the redirect nor the target was created by you. You created Draft:January 1918, and have submitted it for AfC review. If it is accepted, it will replace the redirect in mainspace. It isn't clear what you wish to "correct". --Worldbruce (talk) 14:54, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
- Worldbruce If you mean it sorts itself out, then I don't have to do anything? Followup: what happened to the alternate stream of Article Creation for experienced contributors. That seemed to have disappeared. That stream didn't require submitting drafts all the time.
- @Freeman1856: Article creation for experienced editors remains the same as it has been for at least the last few years. For example, it you were to follow the red link January 2028, you could type something in the edit box, click "publish changes", and that would create the article. Article modification also remains the same, so if you don't want to wait for Draft:January 1918 to be accepted (for things to sort themselves out, which they probably would without any further action on your part), you could click January 1918, edit the page, and replace the redirect with the content you want to be there. --Worldbruce (talk) 04:14, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
- Worldbruce Alright, if I do that, how do I cancel the original draft submission?
- @Freeman1856: Normally you would just undo the edit in which you submitted the draft. In this case someone jumped in and declined it within the hour, so you no longer need to cancel the submission. They went a step further and nominated the draft for deletion, since it now duplicates content in mainspace. You might save the denizens of MfD some time by adding {{Db-author}} to the top of the draft to have it speedily deleted without further debate. --Worldbruce (talk) 15:24, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
