05:02:37, 29 July 2014 review of submission by Helen7274

edit

Good afternoon. I have just submitted an article for review (Terrance Plowright) and am not sure what to do with the section headed Reviewer Tools. There is a message that says: Warning: this page should probably be moved but a page already exists at Draft: Sandbox. There is then a little window in which is written: Name of the article (without the prefix) and then below that is an instruction: Move to Draft Space.

I am not sure what to do! Please help. Thanks - helen ps: I have just tried to enter the name of the article (Terrance Plowright) and clicked on Move to Draft Space, and it would not allow me to do that - and something about being blacklisted! Help! Do I therefore just close my page? Helen7274 (talk) 05:02, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Helen7274: I'm not sure what went wrong, but your submission is now at Draft:Terrance Plowright. Chris Troutman (talk) 06:03, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Chris. I assume I can just close my page, then? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Helen7274 (talkcontribs) 06:11, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Helen7274: I don't know what you mean by "close my page". I moved the content of your sandbox into the draft namespace, where it awaits review. You can remove the redirect from your sandbox and use it for something else if you want. It may be a week or two before your draft is reviewed and you may need to revise it before it is eventually accepted. Does this answer your question? Chris Troutman (talk) 22:47, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Chris - sorry about the vagueness of my question. It no longer matters, and all is good. I fully accept that I will need to revise it as this is my first time at writing a Wikipedia article. I am doing some further editing/referencing - I wonder if one can over-reference? Thanks for your help. helen — Preceding unsigned comment added by Helen7274 (talkcontribs) 23:11, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Chris, I have looked at some of the comments etc posted here for other people and came across this: Your userpage should tell us about who you are as a Wikipedia editor. I have not been asked to do this anywhere - is this something that happens once my article is under review, or is this something I was supposed to have done earlier? Thank you for all your help thus far; it is much appreciated. helen — Preceding unsigned comment added by Helen7274 (talkcontribs) 23:16, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I am signing this now!Helen7274 (talk) 01:32, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Helen7274: You don't have to create a user page if you don't want to. I've commented to other editors about it because too often the user page is mistaken for a free webhosting space. Many Wikipedians have user pages as a means of self-expression as relates to their activities on wiki. My user page shows which areas in Wikipedia I tend to work and what my accomplishments on wiki are. There are plenty of Wikpedians who value their privacy and don't have a user page, which is perfectly fine. Chris Troutman (talk) 17:26, 31 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I am trying to write and article and trying to get it reviewed to see if it is correct.

Gerald Wiggins draft

Gerald A. Wiggins (born April 8, 1967 in Harlem, New York. An is an American music executive, entrepreneur, and film producer.

Biography

Gerald Anthony Wiggins was born in Harlem, New York to Gertrude Wiggins. Gerald new from a young age that music was what he wanted to do with his life. Wiggins is the youngest of six children. He attended middle school and high school in Harlem New York Until attending Columbia University in New York, NY in 1987. In New York Wiggins worked as a security officer to pay tuition while attended classes at the prestigious school. Wiggins began his music conquest in the early 1990's as a manager and promoter for the famous Sweet Waters venue for it's record industry night in New York working alongside mentor Gene Lewis.

Wiggins cites the universal sounds of Motown as his main influence. Wiggins was once quoted saying "Music saved my life, it gave me something to work towards". Wiggins has been influenced by such acts as Micheal Jackson, The Beatles, Paul McCartney, Marvin Gaye and Barry Gordy. While attending Columbia University Wiggins soon there after realized that music was what he wanted to do. Soon after with close friends Wiggins formed the group the "Funk Children" putting out the record "El Kaboki".

True Life Entertainment Inc.

Soon After Gerald realized that there was more to music then just putting out records. As a product of Harlem Wiggins knew there was more, thus inspiring the creation of True Life Entertainment Inc. A company founded by Wiggins and business partner "Edmund Packhaber". In the Spring if 2006 True Life Entertainment Released the title "Secret Ellington". Secrets was a project developed on the unreleased material of Jazz Legend and Icon "Duke Ellington".

Wiggins Music Group Distribution Inc.

In 2006 Wiggins Co-Founded Wiggins Media Group Worldwide, (WMGW) Inc. Wiggins's Production and Distribution credits include releases from artists such as The Jazz Crusaders, Duke Ellington, Grover Washington Jr., Bishop David G. Evans and Legendary hip hop artists Just Ice, KRS-1, and Keith Murray, as well as being Executive Producer for releases from Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members Ben E. King, Martha Reeves, and Solomon Burke.

@Gerald A Wiggins: You never submitted your draft for review, but I have done so on your behalf. At first glance I notice that you copied some text directly from wmgw.net so I recommend re-writing that content in your own words. As it stands, the text reads promotionally so that needs to be fixed. I'm not sure the fact that Wiggins owns the production company that produced "Made N America" makes him notable. You will have to prove that he either meets the notability criteria for musicians or the standard for general notability. You don't appear to have enough independent and reliable sources to make a case for general notability. Finally, your userpage is not meant to be used as either a sandbox to develop articles or a webhost for content. Your userpage should tell us about who you are as a Wikipedia editor. You have already been warned against making an autobiography and your user name evinces a conflict of interest. Chris Troutman (talk) 23:08, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have no idea whether or not my article is being reviewed or if it is still in draft mode. Please advise.Salemhistorian (talk) 16:02, 29 July 2014 (UTC) Salemhistorian (talk) 16:02, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please be more specific about the title of the draft you have in mind. I can find nothing associated with you except the edit above. Fiddle Faddle 22:30, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I would like some assistance on why my article for Nate Fakes was rejected. Any help is appreciated. I could not get any answers in the chat area.

Thank you,

Jim — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jimboaddams (talkcontribs) 16:44, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Have you looked at Draft:Nate Fakes itself? There is the name of the reviewing editor and a comment there. Engaging them on their talk page should bear fruit. We do require far better referencing for a loving person, and for them to pass WP:BIO. Fiddle Faddle 22:33, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Kamichailo (talk) 17:23, 29 July 2014 (UTC) Can I start a new article in my sndbox while I have one that is waiting for approval? If so, how? Thank you[reply]

@Kamichailo: Yes. Remove the #REDIRECT coding from your sandbox and replace it with whatever you'd like to start next. You can create numerous user sandboxes for separate projects. Simply search for a sub-page using your user name (User:Kamichailo/some new article). Wikipedia will show you a red link to indicate that it doesn't exist. Click on that link and start typing, and then save to create that new subpage. You can work on your subpage sandboxes as long as you like and then submit them (or move into mainspace yourself) when you're ready. Chris Troutman (talk) 22:53, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have been told that the submitted draft lacks independent sources, but we have linked to all of the relevant pages in the references section, what more is Wikipedia looking for?George Winters (talk) 21:53, 29 July 2014 (UTC) George Winters (talk) 21:53, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Declined it is independent sources that you lack, as you have been told. The clue is in the word `"independent". See WP:42. Wikipedia is looking for sources that are, indeed, independent. Fiddle Faddle 22:42, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Help desk, this is my second article and I would like to avoid many of the problems I created for my first page. I have discussed it at length with a Teahouse commenter and made many revisions. I would now appreciate it if someone here could take a look at it and let me know what needs to be further revised, fixed, removed, etc., so that I can try to have it approved on the first review. Many thanks for your time and consideration. Best, Old Beeg ··warble·· 23:03, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Oldbeeg:   Accepted I wish they were all that easy. Remember you have seven days to submit a "hook" to the DYK Wikiproject. Chris Troutman (talk) 00:14, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
