Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/George A. Hero

How do I clarify my username?

How do I add references properly?

MimilebMimileb (talk) 02:33, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean by "clarifying" the username? You are the user with the name "Mimileb", and your contributions are listed at Special:Contributions/Mimileb, though the user page User:Mimileb hasn't been created yet. Creating a user page is not necessary for your interactions with Wikipedia, but I believe you should be able to do so if you want to - just click on the red link and edit the page. The user page is usually used to provide a little information on the user. See also WP:User pages.
For references see WP:Referencing for beginners and Help:Footnotes. I have edited your draft and tidied up its references; you can have a look at what I did there.
As an aside, the draft sometimes uses rather laudatory language. For example, Hero is introduced as a " visionary capitalist who realized his childhood dream". We should aim for a drier tone such as:
George Alfred Hero (July 28, 1854 – December 19, 1932) was an American businessman who drained vast tracts of swampland on the West Bank of the Mississippi River at New Orleans.
I also couldn't see how Lindbergh's visit to New Orleans was relevant to Hero. Huon (talk) 04:27, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Smart Sparrow

edit

Hi folks, I submitted the Smart Sparrow listing which was declined on Aug 7 so I edited the information as suggested and resubmitted it but it seems to be sitting there with no further other response to date.

I appreciate you are very busy yet it would be great to get an idea what happens next and when it is likely to be processed.

This is my first posting so I learning as I go :)

thanks and regards Peter

The draft is awaiting review, but since there's a backlog of more than 700 drafts, that may take a few more days. At the moment, the oldest unreviewed drafts are from August 3. Please be patient.
In the meantime, you might want to further improve the references. I just had a very short look, but the first one is a primary source, the company's own website. The second also seems to be a primary source, Dr. Ben-Naim's profile at an organization he writes for. The third doesn't mention Smart Sparrow or the Adaptive eLearning Platform; I don't see how it then can support a statement on what that platform is based on. The fourth is again a primary source, written by Ben-Naim himself. I believe the others are better, but Wikipedia content should be verifiable from the sources (ie when we say the Adaptive eLearning Platform is based on something, the source should back up that statement), and it should be based on secondary sources. Those first four aren't much of a help. The fifth, a Sydney Mornign Herald article about Smart Sparrow, is a much better source, but unfortunately it doesn't confirm the 10,000 students (it says Smart Sparrow is used by 100 academics, though). Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Artist growth

edit

I submitted the Artist Growth and didn't get a clear response on the changes that should be made to make the article go live

If there is something I have overlooked, please let me know. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eliz.Lutz (talkcontribs) 17:09, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't read that response, but since the article has now been accepted, it's probably moot anyway. I believe the added sources did the trick. Huon (talk) 18:47, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Article for creation - Shadowrun Online

edit

Hello Help desk!

I deleted all sources from my article that were primary or supposedly not legit.

When I visited the IRC I was also told my article was alright now. Still my article wasn´t approved as of yet.

Is there a reason why this is, or are the Wiki helpers still too busy? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.75.189.101 (talk) 18:11, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I believe it's simply a case of "still too busy". There's a backlog of about 800 unreviewed drafts; it will take a few days until yours gets reviewed again. The Kickstarter FAQ still looks like a primary source to me, by the way. Huon (talk) 18:47, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In your last reply you had mentioned that you will be able to give a reply within a week after going through the revised text I had submitted. Can you kindly advise the status? Thanks and regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by Panank (talkcontribs) 20:06, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The backlog is currently worse than usual; there are still unreviewed articles dating back to August 3. Yours was re-submitted for review on August 8; it may take a few more days. Please be patient. Huon (talk) 20:45, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Leigh Bale Sandbox Article

edit

Folks, originally, Leigh Bale's sister-in-law (Clara Bale) endeavored to create an article about her. That article was created in Clara's sandbox and rejected. Clara came to me for help. The article I submitted from my sandbox was approved. Now, when I go to Google.com and search for Leigh Bale, the following options are coming up on the 2nd page:

User: Clara Bale/sandbox - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

User: Lynn Savatch/sandbox - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If you click on these links, the Clara Bale link takes you to the old Leigh Bale article that was rejected. The Lynn Savatch link takes you to the newer article, but it's still from the sandboxes. I thought the sandboxes are reserved for editing and testing. What needs to happen for the link to read: Leigh Bale - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia?

I'm at a loss as to how to fix this problem. Guess I'm in over my head. I don't know what to do at this point. I appreciate any help you can offer.Lynn Savatch (talk) 23:54, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That's Google's problem more than ours. Give it a little time, and it will have indexed the new article, correspondingly decreasig the significance of the drafts among its search results. There is also a __NOINDEX__ magic word which you could add to the drafts to prevent them from being indexed by search engines, but of course that won't work instantaneously either. I don't think it's worth the effort. You could also turn the no-longer-needed sandbox page into a redirect to the article (blank the page except for a single line that reads #REDIRECT [[Leigh Bale]]) so anybody arriving from the Google link will automatically land at the real article.
