Another pointless task force of Wikipedia:WikiProject Current events as can be seen by the fact that this banner is used on only 4 articles. All articles are tagged with Wikipedia:WikiProject United States and Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools but if this tag is still wanted, it should use Template:WikiProject Current events. Gonnym (talk) 19:01, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment No, it shouldn't use the project banner, since it is no longer a current event. Since all these taskforces are of an ephemeral nature, the existence of the banner shouldn't pose a problem, as they should be removed from articles within a short period of time (say a month), and then the banners deleted forthwith. I can see how this kind of template might be used on current-related articles that do not document the current event itself, and thus would be liable to have the main current events project banner deleted by patrolling editors, thus serve a time limited purpose. The use of the main project banner itself in articles' talkpages also is generally ephemeral, and thus such taskforce banners should never encounter the instance where the taskforce banner would ever need to be replaced by the main project banner, as by that time, the event itself would no longer be current and thus not within the scope of the project. Though instead, perhaps WPCurrentEvents should have a generic taskforce banner for such purposes that takes the taskforce name as a parameter. ie. {{Current Events task force|tf=Robb Elementary shooting}}; thus merging all such task force templates together with a switch-case. This also prevents excessive churn on the main banner template, where TFs are continuously created and deactivated, that would be used on admin pages for the project as well as the main current events articles. A tracking redlink category, Category:Current Events task force "(((tf)))" could be used to track the various pages tagged by a taskforce, and then detransclude the template at the closure of the taskforce by bot. Thus we we wouldn't need to delete ephemeral TF banners, as a generic banner would exist, and would prevent churn on the main project banner, and could be auto-removed. -- 65.92.244.127 (talk) 21:31, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • At any rate, this particular TF banner can be deleted as the event it supports is no longer a current event. Though a genericized template would preclude the need for continual deletion, and such a one would prevent churn on the main project banner -- 65.92.244.127 (talk) 21:35, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete No longer needed. But if it can be merged with another project then it should. But the scope is very limited. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 23:55, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Talk page banner that is used only twice. Very misleading as it states the article should follow the Case Law Policy which is not an en.wiki policy page nor is it even a guideline page so does not even have any community consensus to whatever is written there. Both articles are already tagged with {{WikiProject Canada|canlaw=yes}} which is enough. Gonnym (talk) 18:53, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm unclear why this task force exists as all 4 articles it is tagged on are US court issues which means that this can easily be under Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Supreme Court cases, Wikipedia:WikiProject United States or Wikipedia:WikiProject Politics. Regardless though, since this project states it is a task force of Wikipedia:WikiProject Current events it should use Template:WikiProject Current events with the task force parameter. Unused banner template but also should not be used as tagging an article with Template:WikiProject Weather with |class=a should be enough. Gonnym (talk) 18:33, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Gonnym: Delete but note that tagging with A-class within the WPWX template is no longer allowed since WPWX doesn't support A-class as a rating. The project doesn't have the resources to perform the required two reviews for A-class candidates as stated in the A-class criteria and thus deprecated the rating recently. The template was designed to point to the official reviews that took place.

  • Comment if it is being used to link to the assessment page, much like a GA subpage, then the link should remain on the talk page of the article as part of article history in some form, as we continue to link to old DYK, GA, FA nominations/reviews. So I suggest this be replaced with {{Article history}} which supports a "WAR" setting for WikiProject A-class Review -- 65.92.244.127 (talk) 22:51, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The above are all recently created, unused WikiProject top icon templates. The are a few issues here with this batch. The major one is simply, no one requested or needed them. These projects have existed for years and no one has had any need for them all this time. As I noted on these template's creator's talk page, a template should be created when there is a need for it. Since these are basically a copy/paste creation, there isn't anything special required to (re)create them when they are actually needed. But even if they were needed, can't we in 2023 use a better system then just this horrible n amount of template system? A simple meta template that accepts a |country= parameter would be enough (the flag data can be obtained from Wikidata or data list). My first option would just be complete deletion as I don't think these are needed by anyone, with my second option being the meta template. --Gonnym (talk) 10:03, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete: I agree, especially seeing they are mostly unused. A simple meta template that accepts a 'country' parameter would be enough: I like this idea. ––– GMH Melbourne (talk) 13:09, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Delete Agreed that these are largely unnecessary and clunky- for those saying keep the templates currently in use, I would prefer a metatemplate as suggested per nom with country parameters. EmeraldRange (talk/contribs) 11:54, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As proof of concept (if wanted) Template:WikiProject country member top icon works with the |country= parameter. If this isn't wanted by the end of this discussion, delete it with the others. Gonnym (talk) 08:39, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
