This template is 139 kB. It is only used within the Vehicle registration plates of Germany article and likely would not be used in any others. I propose deleting the template and putting the content within the article itself – Kjerish (talk) 17:19, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • What's so bad about having the source for an enormous table transclude from a different title? Is it so Special:PageInfo is more accurate? Folly Mox (talk) 08:41, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Folly Mox: Currently the size issue is masked, and the characteristics of the page don't reflect reality, as you mentioned. There are useful metrics such as Special:LongPages to find pages that can be reduced in size. It's also generally not a good idea to keep templates around that are used 0 or 1 times – Kjerish (talk) 05:18, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This template is 175 kB. It is only used within the List of Egyptian hieroglyphs article and likely would not be used in any others. I propose deleting the template and putting the content within the article itself. Also, as an aside, it is called "Template:List of hieroglyphs" even though it should be called "Template:List of Egyptian hieroglyphs", but I would prefer a delete-and-merge. – Kjerish (talk) 17:12, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • As above with the Germany license plate components, what's the pressing need to subst into the transcluding article all the contents of this table? Seems like having it in its own space would make it easier for someone to edit the List of Egyptian hieroglyphs article without scrolling past 175kb of syntax.     • @Folly Mox: List of Egyptian hieroglyphs contains essentially no other content than this table, so it actually makes it harder (especially if they're not someone that can code very well) because they then have to go to the template to edit the content.     What will the table look like once the template has been merged in? Will the syntax be more complex than the existing template syntax? I ask as someone who uses this table regularly (I have written code to parse the template, perhaps not the best way to get an array of hieroglyph objects but I don’t know of an alternative), but who isn’t terribly well versed in Wikitext syntax. babbage (talk) 21:43, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
