Template:Barbecue sauces (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Per template guidelines, "Templates should not be used to create lists of links to other articles when a category, list page, or 'See also' section list can perform the same function." This template would be better implemented by categories and lists. The current one appears to be a confusion between commercial brands and sauce styles...many not actually belonging to the list. We don't need a template to navigate commercial brands.
 — Berean Hunter (talk) 18:02, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep per WP:NOTDUP, relative to the existence of Category:Barbecue sauces. WP:NOTDUP states "It is neither improper nor uncommon to simultaneously have a category, a list, and a navigation template which all cover the same topic. These redundant systems of organizing information are considered to be complementary, not inappropriately duplicative." It's possible that the template guidelines page may be outdated regarding this matter. NorthAmerica1000 14:14, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per WP:NOTDUP, as that has been the prevailing consensus in recent discussions —PC-XT+ 17:30, 27 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Template:From Commons (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
Template:Deleted on Commons (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Propose merging Template:From Commons with Template:Deleted on Commons.
These seem to have the same purpose. We don't need both of them. Stefan2 (talk) 17:02, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Merge have a selector to choose the smaller or larger format. There is a slight difference in usage, as "from Commons" is for a file that is incompatible with Commons being copied to en.wiki, while "deleted on Commons" could be used for files that existed on both Commons and en.wiki subsequently deleted on Commons (this could be the result of a transfer to commons, then deletion on commons while the en.wiki one wasn't yet deleted). -- 70.51.46.146 (talk) 03:30, 19 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • Why is it necessary to include that difference in the template or if a user attempted to move a file to Commons which does not belong there? If a file on Commons is uploaded to English Wikipedia, this is typically indicated in the "source" parameter of the {{Information}} template. --Stefan2 (talk) 15:00, 28 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge as the overlap of purpose seems substantial —PC-XT+ 21:07, 27 September 2014 (UTC) 05:03, 28 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: couldn't (shouldn't?) the same be said for {{Height}}?--Gibson Flying V (talk) 03:29, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Not the "unused" part, at least. Jackmcbarn (talk) 03:30, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep by author. Per the documentation, the Template:Htcm provides a user-friendly way to specify heights in centimetres, providing auto-fixed parameters if mistakes are saved. By comparison, the Template:Convert does not yet provide auto-fixing of parameters, nor does Template:Height, while Template:Htcm has been designed as the next-generation form of {Height}. Hence, keep Template:Htcm as providing special functionality and error-correction of parameters, as the features of Template:Convert are later improved to better reflect the real-world handling of measurement conversions such as height. -Wikid77 (talk) 22:28, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • Autofixing and error correction are REALLY BAD and should NEVER be used. A page not providing any information to a reader because of an error is bad, but a page providing misinformation to a reader because of an error is much worse. Jackmcbarn (talk) 22:41, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • delete, we should really be using {{convert}} instead. as far as {{height}} goes, it should probably be deleted as well, but that one has been around for much longer. Frietjes (talk) 23:54, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as errors should be apparent on a wiki, so everyone can see them, and someone is more likely to fix it —PC-XT+ 22:10, 27 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Redundant now that Template:Precision uses Lua Jackmcbarn (talk) 03:16, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep by author. Per the documentation, the Template:Numsense provides a more useful check for precision, based on the number sense of an amount. By comparison, the Template:Precision only provides a strict engineering view of the precision level, and Template:Convert actually handles some units in the manner of Template:Numsense. Hence, keep Template:Numsense as providing a special functionality, as the features of Template:Convert are improved to better reflect the real-world handling of measurement conversions. -Wikid77 (talk) 22:22, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
