December 31 edit

Does anyone know for sure what Jodie Foster's character name was in Taxi Driver? Was it Iris Steensma or Iris Steensman? I seem to be finding both names in various reputable sources. Thanks. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 00:06, 31 December 2007 (UTC))[reply]

The Google hits for Iris Steensma are some 2,600 (English and German); for Iris Steensman about 90. This would indicate that the former name "Steensma" is the correct option. --Cookatoo.ergo.ZooM (talk) 00:51, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
PS: After futher googling: "Steen" is a derivate of stone (from Old Norse, as in Ingemar Stenmark, the Swedish skiier), -ma is a Friesian suffix denoting the person belongs to the preceding clan of the Steens. --Cookatoo.ergo.ZooM (talk) 03:03, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
PPS: The site mentions there was a wave of emigrants from Friesland to the USA around 1900, mostly to Michigan. Quite a few Steenmas still live in Detroit and other places. I can´t remember the film in detail to know if this would fit with Jodie Foster´s persona in the movie. --Cookatoo.ergo.ZooM (talk) 03:30, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
IMDB lists her character as Iris Steensma [1] --24.249.108.133 (talk) 20:59, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info. Do you know of any way to check with "official people" (whoever that is) who made the film? Thanks. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 20:04, 31 December 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Have you checked out the audio commentary for the various DVD releases? --24.249.108.133 (talk) 21:00, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The IMDb website lists "Steensma" and the official Academy Awards website lists "Steensman". Both of those being reputable (particularly the Academy) is what prompted my original question. And, no, I don't have this DVD. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 01:51, 1 January 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Thanks for all the input. I am convinced at this point that it is Steensma (without the "n" at the end). Thank you. Happy New Year! (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 03:53, 2 January 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Ipod Trouble edit

I have an Ipod classic and everytime I add a new song to it has to reload all the songs. How do I stop this from happening? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hmrox (talkcontribs) 00:38, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This happened to me as well. I went to the nearest Apple Store and received assistance from their Genius Bar--n1yaNt(~Cpt. Obvious~) 05:52, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Somewhere in the iTunes preferences (under iPod) there is an option called something like "Manually manage songs and playlists". Checking that box should solve your problem. --Richardrj talk email 10:39, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

An odd number of legs for a horse edit

Why do the Final Fantasy games show Sleipnir as having six legs? --67.185.172.158 (talk) 08:45, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know, but I can assure you that six is not an odd number! Jacques l'Aumône (talk) 11:13, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Because they are factually incorrect, there should be eight. (No joke, check Sleipnir site - eight legs) --'n1yaNt 11:22, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have seen it speculated that the animators could not make a model with eight legs look right. This sounds plausible, especially since some of the illustrations in the Sleipnir page have the legs plaited together. It looks great in a static picture but might be tricky to animate! On the other hand there are apparently depictions of six-, seven- and eight-legged horses that are conventionally identified as Sleipnir. [2] SaundersW (talk) 14:37, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why is it... edit

Why is it that in some episodes of shows, a character is mad at another character, and then the character does the right thing, and the other character does not return? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sirdrink13309622 (talkcontribs) 14:19, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That character that left did not get his acting contract renewed so the screenwriters are forced to remove him/her from the plot. --'n1yaNt 14:35, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's not extremely creative, but it's an effective plot device. A clever author would make it so you didn't remember the expended character. Beekone (talk) 17:22, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comic Book Heroins/Heroes edit

Are there any other comic book heroes/heroins besides Vampirella that regularly use a crossbow? 66.211.229.67 (talk) 18:53, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Does Buffy the Vampire Slayer count? What about Link from Legend of Zelda? --24.249.108.133 (talk) 21:01, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can't remember the Title! edit

There was this first person puzzle game, where you were the only crew member on a LARGE spaceship, i forgot the name of it...it was for PC and it was pretty cool, i was young so i didn't get the plot, i think the captain ordered the lot of the crew to crash a small ship into the enemy to save the ship...i remember the first puzzle you had to seal a hole in the ship, it was in a room, you sprayed it, then put some sort of "bandage" over it...what was the name of that game! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.208.178.245 (talk) 20:08, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adventures of Valdo and Marie? google that to see if it fits your game --'n1yaNt 22:39, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Big Fish nude swimming edit

Hi there, in the movie "Big Fish", there was a scene where Edward Bloom was driving his car in the rain and it got flooded then he saw a nude woman swimming in front of him, what is the name of that actress and where can I see that clip, in which website? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.64.129.160 (talk) 23:37, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

mrskin.com --'n1yaNt 06:34, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What about the actress's name and where do I find that clip in that site? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.14.116.186 (talk) 14:50, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You use the 'search' function on the left-side of the page...surprisingly enough. It returns the actress Bevin Kaye as someone 'who got naked'. It looks like this site is a pay-site so you'd need to pay to get to the clip you want, but i'm sure with the name and some time on your hands you could track this down for free using google. ny156uk (talk) 20:01, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Mrs. Kin says about the actress: "She’s only been in two movies, but in each she was cast as a woman". --Cookatoo.ergo.ZooM (talk) 00:35, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not a man?! I'm very surprised! 'n1yaNt 19:54, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bevin Kaye is a stuntwoman who has performed in many movies. As such, she is not given a "role" in most of them. Big Fish was an exception where she was given the role of "Riverwoman". -- kainaw 03:59, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
