Dua Lipa discography edit

I've listed this article for peer review because I am hoping to promote it to a featured list in the future. I have spent some time making sure all chart positions and certifications are backed up and just generally cleaning up the article. I think my prose in the lead might need some work though. Any comments would help. Thanks, LOVI33 06:02, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Great work here! I will try to offer some suggestions soon.--NØ 12:07, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • "After signing with Warner Bros. Records, she released her debut single "New Love" in 2015, which was followed by "Be the One"." -- The way this is framed unnecessarily leaves ambiguity about Be the One's release year. I would go for "After signing with Warner Bros. Records, she released the singles "New Love" and "Be the One" in 2015."
  • Readers might be curious how high "Hotter than Hell" and "Blow Your Mind" went in the UK and US respectively. This could be worked into brackets right after the song names in the lead: "Lipa earned her first UK Singles Chart entry with "Hotter than Hell" (number 15) and her first US Billboard Hot 100 entry with "Blow Your Mind (Mwah)" (72).
  • Saying "Be the One" was "re-released" in the UK will need to be sourced. Though from what I understand, it was only sent to UK radio once, in December 2016. So maybe wording like "The same year, "Be the One" became a sleeper hit and was released to radio stations in the country" would be a safer choice.
    • You're right. The mention of the re-release is probably not notable in the lead anyways. LOVI33 03:45, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Recognition is misspelled
  • "the top 10 of the UK Singles Chart as "No Lie" by Sean Paul featuring Lipa and "Scared to Be Lonely", her collaboration with Martin Garrix, were in the top 15" -- Did this break some record? I would remove it otherwise.
  • I don't find the current lead section satisfactory. A lot of (relatively) unremarkable chart feats are given way too much weightage. For example, there's a large sentence about "Be the One", "No Lie" and "Scared to be Lonely", yet it fails to convey at what position they each peaked on the chart.
  • The album reached number three on the UK Singles Chart?
  • "becoming her first UK number one single and her first Billboard Hot 100 top ten entry," -- Hyphenate: "number-one single", "top-10 entry"
  • Hyphenation problems remain throughout the section. I would recommend referring this.
  • "It's lead single, "Don't Start Now"" -- "Its lead single, "Don't Start Now""
  • "The" in "the Blessed Madonna" should be lowercased mid-sentence.
  • The repetition of "album" could be reduced here: "The following August, Lipa released a remix album titled Club Future Nostalgia, a collaboration with the Blessed Madonna, preceded by its lead single, a remix of "Levitating" featuring Madonna and Missy Elliott." The title makes it obvious it's a remix album of FN, and Levitating being the Blessed Madonna's remix is also automatically implied.
  • "The original version "Levitating" was later released as single from Future Nostalgia with a remix featuring DaBaby." -- I am confused. The "Levitating" article states the original version was sent to radio in Italy in August 2020, and the UK in Septemer. Neither of these happened at the same time as the DaBaby remix. This whole part needs to be rewritten for clarity. Something like: "The original version of the song was later released as a single from Future Nostalgia and peaked at number five on the UK Singles Chart, its DaBaby remix reached the same position on the Billboard Hot 100.
    • The solo and remix are being promoted as the same single, just the remix was sent the contemporary hit radio and the solo was sent to adult contemporary. The impacts on the "Levitating" page before then are considered promotional single releases. Plus the reason why DaBaby isn't credited in the UK is due to the Official Chart Rules. • "Fever" spending 17 weeks at #1 in Belgium might be notable enough to include here. [1]
This will need a lot of work but it could get to FL in the future. I would recommend taking it to GOCE for a c/e focused on Grammar issues. Hopefully this PR will also attract more reviewers. My comments aren't exhaustive and a lot more work may be necessary before an FLC.--NØ 18:38, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you MaranoFan. Much appreciated. LOVI33 03:45, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You are most welcome, LOVI ;) In case you have some time, I have a current FAC if you'd like to return the favour.—NØ 19:06, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Comments from Aoba47 edit

  • For the infobox image, I would expand the caption to include information on where the photograph was taken (i.e. at the Grammy Museum) to provide the full context to the reader. Was this photograph taken at the Grammy Museum at L.A. Live? If so, I would add the link to the caption.
  • I would be cautious about the lead's length in the future. Dua Lipa is still relatively in the early stages of her career, and she undoubtedly continue to release music. It is not an issue right now, but as she continues to release music, the lead may need to be altered and trimmed to fit new information. Again, this is more of a note for the future.
  • This phrasing, shot Lipa to recognition, sounds awkward to me. I have not really heard this phrasing before, but I am an American so it could be a cultural difference.

These are the only comments that I have for the list. Best of luck with the future FLC. It looks ready to me. I am not familiar with Dua Lipa's music at all (as I have actually never listened to a full song by her all the way through) so I cannot provide commentary beyond the prose. Comments from SNUGGUMS edit

  • File:Dua Lipa 09 28 2018 -14 (45816387795).jpg is A-OK to use
  • I'm not convinced "sleeper hit" is appropriate tone, and such detail either way is better for the song's page. You could instead mention the peaks it reached.
  • The lead mostly seems to focus on UK and US details. By no means are they the only places she's had success in. For more diversity of nations, I would include things like non-UK places where Future Nostaglia went number one, "Be the One" topping the Belgian charts and how her songs "New Rules", "IDGAF", "One Kiss", and "Don't Start Now" all reached the summit in Ireland. It shocks me how "Bridge over Troubled Water" and "Times Like These" both reached the UK summit yet aren't included (even when Lipa's credited as a featured artist on those).
  • Unless they had single/promo single releases, I see no good reason to include any guest appearances that didn't chart
  • On a similar note, it's also pointless to list any mere songwriter listings where she's not credited as a lead or featured artist

You should have a better chance of this passing a future FLC after resolving these concerns. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 03:41, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Comments from HumanxAnthro edit

  • "It produced the international, chart-topping hits "Be the One", "New Rules" and "IDGAF", which propelled Lipa to international fame." Redundant sentence. Also, weren't the 2015 singles charting internationally, which the discography lists? 👨x🐱 (talk) 17:35, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you HumanxAnthro but I would say that sentence is pretty important as those three songs are really what made Lipa famous. I could have gone into detail but I had the lead really long at the beginning of this peer review so I significantly shortened it. Also, "Be the One" was a sleeper hit so it charted in select places from early 2016 to mid 2017. LOVI33 12:54, 5 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
