Details edit

Main meetup edit

  • Date: Saturday 26 May 2018
  • Time (suggestion - to be confirmed): 19:00hrs (7pm)
  • Location (again, a suggestion at this stage): Emperor's Garden Restaurant, China Town 33°52′45″S 151°12′15″E / 33.8792832°S 151.2040568°E / -33.8792832; 151.2040568

@Freikorp: I understand you booked the venue last time. Are you happy to make the booking again this time? It looks like about 8-11 people at this stage. Bahnfrend (talk) 07:18, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Booked for 7pm on the 26th of May. I made it for 11 people just to be safe. It's a pretty chilled place though so it shouldn't be a problem if even more people turned up. Freikorp (talk) 09:58, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Pre-meetup meetup edit

At midday on the same day (26 May), Bahnfrend, MargaretRDonald and Oronsay will be holding a pre-meetup meetup at the cafe (Cafe Trim) at the State Library of New South Wales. The plan is to have lunch, a chat and then a look around the State Library. Anyone else who wishes to join in is very welcome to do so. Bahnfrend should be easy to find - he is very tall and will be wearing a black T-shirt with the ESEAP logo on it.

Suggested post-meetup activity edit

Meetup participants might want to consider checking out Vivid Sydney: Fantastic Oceans and/or Tumbalong Lights after the meetup.

Agenda edit

User:Bahnfrend, a member of the Perth meetup group, will be visiting Sydney over the weekend of 26-27 May, and has initiated this meeting.

Bahnfrend has recently attended the ESEAP Conference 2018 in Bali, as a representative of Australian Wikimedians, and would be happy to chat with Sydney Wikimedians about that event.

Suggestions edit

The proposed venue for the meetup is the same venue as for the January 2018 meetup. Any alternative suggestions are very welcome.

We could also move the proposed time to Saturday 26 May or Sunday 27 May during the day (as opposed to the evening) if that is more convenient to more people. Bahnfrend (talk) 06:15, 12 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

What part of Sydney you staying in? There are alternatives...hehehe Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 09:27, 12 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
At this stage, my plan is to stay at the Capsule Hotel, cnr George and Liverpool Streets, ie about three blocks away. I'm open to alternatives, one of which is a Korean place (Dae Jang Kum) in Goulburn Street that I went to last time I was in Sydney. I happily invite suggestions as to any others, as I've never lived in Sydney and am therefore not very familiar with whatever else there is on offer. Bahnfrend (talk) 10:53, 12 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Will have a think...but hard to beat Chinatown for options really. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 13:46, 12 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
What about the state library on Macquarie Street? at midday (12 noon). (Difficult to hear everyone in noisy restaurants.) MargaretRDonald (talk) 21:12, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I prefer the evening. I'm not sure if I could made it by 12pm. --99of9 (talk) 02:01, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I agree on somewhere quiet. Will do some research and see if somewhere fits the bill. Daytime is hard for me on weekends as I often have chores. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 02:25, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@MargaretRDonald: I understand that the consensus is in favour of an evening meetup. However, I would also be happy to meet you (and anyone else who might wish to join us) at the State Library at 12pm that day as a separate get together. At the very least, I've never been to the State Library, and am interested in checking it out. Bahnfrend (talk) 05:46, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It is certainly worth a look. My thinking is something early like 530PM or 6PM...in a quiet place. Am looking into this. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 08:39, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Bahnfrend: Thanks, Bahnfrend. I just might take you up on that.MargaretRDonald (talk) 12:59, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@MargaretRDonald: If you like, we (including anyone else interested) could meet at midday at the State Library cafe (Cafe Trim) and take it from there. Bahnfrend (talk) 07:35, 17 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Bahnfrend: Thanks, Bahnfrend. I'd like to do that. (I have now organised to stay overnight in Sydney's CBD, but remain very uncertain about my capacity to cope with a chinese restaurant, the noise and the lateness of the hour, so I still would very much like to meet at noon in Cafe Trim and allow myself the possibility of an extremely early exit in the evening.) MargaretRDonald (talk) 21:07, 17 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Bahnfrend: May I join you and MargaretRDonald at Cafe Trim as noon on 26 May? --Oronsay (talk) 04:15, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Oronsay: Yes, certainly. I have expanded the Details section above to add the pre-meetup meetup to it. See you there. Bahnfrend (talk) 06:06, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think I will aim to make the café too. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 04:08, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

See you all at 7pm. --99of9 (talk) 01:58, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Debrief edit

I hope everyone had a good time :) Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 03:38, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I thought it was a good 'meetup' at the State Library. It was easier to hear than a restaurant. It worked well for the five of us.... a larger group may have been a problem as the cafe was quite full. How did the evening session go? Regards, Ariconte (talk) 05:23, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It was a nice dinner, good chats and all that. There were only four of us though, and the only person who also attended the midday session was Bahnfrend. Apologies were made to the waiter for reserving us a much larger table than we needed haha. :) Freikorp (talk) 08:18, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I really enjoyed both sessions. Thanks to all who attended. The dinner turned out to be reasonably quiet, because there weren't many people in that part of the restaurant that evening. However, it's clear that there wasn't one time of the day that was convenient to everyone. I will be back in Sydney in mid-August, and would be happy to participate in another meetup then. I'll also be following with interest the various Wikimedia activities in Sydney that we discussed. Bahnfrend (talk) 09:30, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
