Though of course, Jimmy Wales doesn't have 24/hour armed security so it's not like we'll be in any danger.

    • THATCampFeminisms West (Scripps College): We will be working in person (at Honnold-Mudd Library in Claremont) from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. EST. We are encouraging all THATCamp attendees to join us and we welcome those who cannot attend in person to join us virtually.
    • Duke University: We will be working in person at the FHI Conference Room, Bay 4, C-107, Smith Warehouse from 1pm-3pm. Anyone is welcome to join in, or if you cannot come physically, do think about joining us virtually! In addition to wiki editing, we'll be collaboratively constructing a speculative FemWikiBot (#femwikibot)

  • Event: An edit-a-thon! Learn how to contribute to Wikipedia and collaborate with others to write about topics related to women and feminism!

Preparation and participation: Watch this video to learn just how to edit Wikipedia. Be sure to set aside some time for this video as it’s an hour long. (Although, we will provide editing help at the edit-a-thon, if you don’t have time to do this.)

Even if you can’t make it to one of our physical locations on the day of the edit-a-thon, you can participate virtually – use the hashtag #tooFEW to let us know you’re out there and to ask questions the day of.

Contribute to the world's most popular encyclopedia! In conjunction with THATCamp Feminisms and WikiWomen's History Month, several schools around the country are hosting a simultaneous Wikipedia edit-a-thon to improve the coverage of women, women's history, and feminism on Wikipedia. Join us! Anyone with an interest in editing collaboratively and having a great time is encouraged to attend.

What to bring

  • Ideas for topics or articles you might want to work on (though suggestions will be provided for those just looking to be put to work).
  • Any relevant reference materials you might have.
  • Any digital photos you've taken that you would like to use on Wikipedia.
  • Or, if you don't have any of the above, just bring yourself.

  • I worked on editing the entry on Terry Tempest Williams. Although I got sidetracked when I realized that the article about her best-known book, Refuge: An Unnatural History of Family and Place was awful (like a high school book report) and marked for possible deletion because of its lack of notability.   • worked on the Margaret_Cavendish,_Duchess_of_Newcastle-upon-Tyne page - added several inline citations and reworked some of the prose. It's an article that needs a lot of work - initial entries were done by an undergraduate class and there is some bad summary and a few plain wrong items. Will need to return to repeatedly. Also added a book to the bibliography for Katherine Park. I was hoping to create a page for Tara Nummedal, who is a prominent historian of science, but it seems she may not be prominent enough to meet the "notability" bar, which is a damn shame because her work is as important to the history of alchemy field as that of the men who have pages. 71.119.157.211 (talk) 03:38, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

There's an article, 'Wives and daughters of early Berlin geoscientists and their work behind the scenes', with more relevant information but I'm having real trouble getting access to the Earth Sciences History journal.   • I created a Wikipage for Beverly Guy-Sheftall. I started with just a little stub and a content warning that it might all be deleted but I kept at it. Some more senior wikipedians were actually very helpful in making the page stick by adding some sections to the entry and ISBN to the books. I was also able to edit the Spelman College, Women's studies, and Tip Drill pages with information that stuck! Moyazb (talk) 12:16, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
  • My minor edits and page suggestions on disambiguation pages were all deleted. That said, Bearcat took up my suggestion on the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives talk page that their national portrait collection inductees be listed. Now we can hook into that list to create new pages -- in fact Bearcat has started three barnstar-worthy ones: Persimmon Blackbridge, Jovette Marchessault and Lynne Fernie. Now I (we?) need to rush in there with links and peer-reviewed sources to make sure that the fledgling pages stay. SeMelmoth (talk) 18:54, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
