National Museum of Women in the Arts Disability Activism edit-a-thon presented with support from Wikimedia DC
When
- July 20, 2024 - 11 am – 2 pm EDT
Where
- In-person
Description
- Join us for our annual Art+Feminism edit-a-thon to help close information gaps related to gender, feminism, and the arts on Wikipedia. This year, to complement NMWA’s 2024 #5WomenArtists campaign, we will focus on disability activism and advocacy in the arts.
- Anyone and everyone interested in learning more about editing Wikipedia, regardless of experience, gender, or background, is welcome to attend. We will provide tutorials, reference materials, internet access, and refreshments. All you need is a laptop, motivation to combat gender bias, and a belief in equal access to quality information resources.
- This is a free, in-person event. Registration is required. Please bring your laptop and charger. To share about the event on social media, use the hashtags #ArtAndFeminism, #NowEditingAF, and #5WomenArtists!
- This event is in partnership with Wikimedia, DC, the regional outreach organization for Wikipedia.

edit- Chapters
- Wikimedia chapters are independent organizations founded to support and promote the Wikimedia projects in a specified geographical region (in most cases, a country). Like the Wikimedia Foundation, they aim to "empower and engage people around the world to collect and develop educational content under a free license or in the public domain, and to disseminate it effectively and globally". There are currently 39 chapters, with at least one on every inhabited continent., i.e. Wikimedia DC

- User groups
- Wikimedia user groups are intended to be simple and flexible affiliates that are an alternative to chapters and thematic organizations - which require more formal requirements. User groups are highly valued as equal players in the Wikimedia movement, i.e., Art+Feminism
