Nomination This portal was built after the success of Portal:North West England and I believe this portal meets all the criteria and should be promoted. Thanks. ┌Joshii┐└chat┘ 20:55, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Good lord, it has been ages since I reviewed my last portal candidate. Here's something that needs to work on. Add the "Archive/Nomination" link so that people can choose to read all the selections at once instead of pressing the "show new selections" and hope there's something that they want to read. Following up on OhanaUnited's comments, there were a couple things that I think would be nice improvements for this portal:
- Definitely add the archive links as suggested above for Portal:Greater Manchester/Selected article, Portal:Greater Manchester/Selected biography, and Portal:Greater Manchester/Selected picture like you have done for the DYK section.
- As part of the previous, add a footer for Portal:Greater Manchester/Selected picture with Read more and Archive links like at Portal:Sustainable development/Selected picture
- Also on the archive pages, add instructions for how to add a new selection (Portal:Peru/Selected article, Portal:Criminal_justice/Selected_article)
- Consider having links for each subpage on the archive page. I believe everything to do that is already in place. For example, see Portal:Criminal_justice/Selected_article. I think it makes it easier to edit the entry you're looking for.
- Check to see that all of the selections under Portal:Greater Manchester/Selected article and Portal:Greater Manchester/Selected biography have in-text links for the article that are bold like at Portal:Theatre/Selected article
- Increase Portal:Greater Manchester/Selected biography to at least 10 selections
- This shouldn't be a problem at all, off the top of my head, there's Henry Taylor (swimmer) and Hugh Mason that are both of GA standard. Nev1 (talk) 01:50, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- It doesn't have to be exact, but try to standardize all selections to a closer range of lengths. For example under Portal:Greater_Manchester/Selected_biography, the selection for Hannah Beswick/Manchester Mummy is about six lines while Oasis (band) is about twelve.
- Add image captions for all of the pictures under Intro, Selected article, Selected biography, and Selected picture
- Consider image mapping the icons under Related portals to the respective portals: see Portal:Schools/Related portals
- Good luck, --Jh12 (talk) 21:45, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Comments from Espresso Addict A drive-by review from the Cheshire WikiProject. The basic structure is good, and I particularly like the maps. I agree with most of the above points -- the lack of archive links makes reviewing the content specifically almost impossible. Additionally:
- The latest news is from August last year
- The DYKs don't seem randomised
- The map in the introduction is lovely but needs an image caption
Hope these points are helpful in improving the portal. Espresso Addict (talk) 00:31, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
