  • 'Royals' first-round picks have never won Rookie of the Year or Most Valuable Player awards with the team and no pick has even been elected to the Hall of Fame."

  • "one of only two third baseman" and basemen
  • "and is the result of their only first overall pick." - awkward, try and was selected with their only first overall pick.
  • Consider adding the upright parameter to Hurdle's and Damon's images, as Hochevar's picture is forced into the See also section even on my higher-res monitor. I don't have the opportunity to see it at a smaller res here at home, but I can imagine that it might run down into the references.

Comments from Mm40 (talk). Just out of curiosity, how are you picking which team to do next? Are you going from the bottom of the standings now?

  • Greinke's ALT text can have "baseball" instead of just "ball"
  • In Hurdle's ALT text, it might be worth mentioning that he's middle-aged (or somehow getting across that he's not a player)
  • Two unverifiable things in Maier's ALT text: I can't distinguish the KC on his batting helmet, and it would be better to say "runs on the infield dirt of a baseball field"
  • You may want to include that the franchise was founded four years after the first draft
  • "assigning amateur baseball players from" it's obvious that we're talking about baseball
  • I think "teams that lost" sounds better than "teams which lost"
  • Consider unlinking all the states in the second paragraph: WP:LINK says, to avoid linking "the names of major geographic features and locations"
  • Remove the comma after "Florida and Texas follow" for better flow
  • "at the time of their draft" either cut out "of their draft" or change "draft" to "selection"
  • Have any players won the MVP with another team? If so, it doesn't need to be included, but if not, you can remove "with the team"
  • In the last paragraph, you begin two consecutive sentences with "They have". Use a synonym for one of them, like "The club has" or "The franchise has"
  • Consider centering the left side of the key
  • "indicates the number of the pick" – is this the overall pick number made by all franchises during the draft?
  • This might seem odd, but another editor made this change to the LAA draft picks list. It makes sense, but I'll leave it up to you. I don't particularly care either way
  • For Pittsley (1992), it's "DuBois", not "Dubois". Gees, how could you overlook such a mistake! User:Dschwen/highlightredirects.js is helpful for things like these
  • Fix Jeff Austin's (1997) college. It should be Stanford University
  • Italicize USA Today in reference four
  • Refs 3 and 8, as well as the second general reference, don't match their titles
  • Not directly related to this article, but we probably should make a category for all these lists. Perhaps add it to {{MLB first-round draft picks by team}}

  • It was raised the first time these lists came to FLC (Phillies) and it was determined to keep the current format because of the sortability issues with the towns/schools/colleges as well as the colspans used for the years. KV5 (Talk • Phils) 17:16, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Regarding the year column, that's an easy fix. Just remove the colspan and list each entry's year. I had to make the same change to one of my FLCs ([2]). I just think it would be nice to be able to sort by year, name, position and pick. Reading back through the Phillies FLC, I still don't completely agree with your reasoning, and we all know that FLC is a very fluid process and that FLC is over a year old. Might be time to revisit. So let's. Lose the colspan. Sort by all columns except Organization and Ref. Done!—NMajdan•talk

  • What browser are you using? I'm in Firefox and one click sorts it properly. Are you getting the 10s with #1, the 20s with 2, etc, etc? Staxringold talkcontribs 20:47, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yeah, the first click sorting works. But once the 1990 row is the first row, it breaks the sorting. The sort order is determined based on what is currently in the first row, which obviously changes when you sort.   • "primary mechanism for assigning amateur players" (once again, I'm learning, so forgive me...) are there other mechanisms used for the same purpose?
  • Yes, there are; there is the posting system (which is used for both amateur and pro players from Japan), the Rule 5 draft (which is for inter-club transactions), and independent scouts for each teams are responsible for amateur talent from Latin America and other parts of the world.   • Not sure about this, but not keen on Location being capitalised in the table heading... just me perhaps?
  • Another typical sorting issue under Safari - if I sort Name, then Pick in ascending order (I would expect the no first-round pick to come last here by the way), then Name order, then Pick (how did I think this up??) then I get Pick sorting "in ascending order" showing as 7, 4, 7, 7, 9, 2, 5, 5, 9, 3, 1, 9 ... which is waaay odd.

  • I don't think it can be fixed right now. Can we leave it "exposed" for others to see, but since I seem to be the only "sort pedant" here, there's a good chance nothing will happen. I certainly won't oppose because of inadequate browser development, but it's a shame that I seem to be the only person who can break sorting on a regular basis!
