I am nominating this for featured list because I believe it to now be the most complete information on this subject available. Most lists of this type only include the Best in Show information and do not include the earlier Best Champion title. In addition, the official history of crufts only list best champion from 1906 whereas I discovered (only today while doing a tidy up) that the first time was actually given out in 1905.

The article has gone through a peer review which had somewhat derailed the idea of nominating this for a FL as there was substantial missing information of which I had no access to. However, the Kennel Club (UK) recently posted the schedules and catalogues of Crufts up until 2007 which has managed to fill in the gaps and show that there was no best champion title after 1912.

I've included images in the first table but not in the second following on from the FL comments when I nominated List of Best in Show winners of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, the reason for the lack of images in the second table is simply the lack of commons licensed images avaliable for those years.

I should note that the terms Cruft's and Crufts are somewhat interchangable - it was Cruft's until the mid fifties and afterwards was used only as Crufts. Miyagawa (talk) 17:18, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • A shame there's no lead image.
  • Had a read of the policy on using fair use images on list articles and then went rooting through the historic dog books I have. Found a picture of H.S. Lloyd, the most successful owner along with the first dog that won best in show twice. I've added it as the lead image along with a fair use rationale.   • You've linked Championship (dog) to both "champion" and "Ch." - I find this this a touch confusing.
  • Especially when it says "The first winner of Best Champion was the Pomeranian Ch. The Sable Mite.[2]" To an outsider, this is a grammar error...

  • "owned by H. S. Lloyd. " just "by Lloyd" would suffice.
  • What is Sh Ch.?
  • "First awarded in 1905, the award was..." homophonic.
  • " on it's introduction" grammar fail.
  • Similarly to above, what is "Sh Ch/Aust Ch"?
  • You have a "Group" category in the second table but I have no idea what that means.
  • As far as I knew, the Second World War ended in mid-1945, so why no contest in 1946 or 1947? Needs explanation.

  • I think the table could be sortable and that'd be useful. Right now there's a bunch of artificial rowspans which makes the table look odd in any case.
  • As there weren't any significant runs of breeds or groups unlike at Westminster, I've made both the main tables sortable. Also split the prefixes away from the main names so that they too can be sorted. Miyagawa (talk) 21:55, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • What's Nord Ch.?
Couldn't find anything reliable to replace, so have removed the line that the cite was attached to and will restore once the terrier group results are available for that year by some other means. Miyagawa (talk) 20:56, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • There's a space between the initials of H. S. Lloyd in the lead, but not in the photo caption or list. I'm pretty sure the space should be there.
  • For the winners without a prefix, I'd suggest inserting a dash of some type (probably a large em dash). That would look more attractive than just blank space. Giants2008 (27 and counting) 13:19, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
