About University of Dhaka Page edit

Hey ZfZames, I don't understand why all extracurricular organizations and club details were removed? All those clubs exists and I have added one remaining DUCC. After that I found removed the whole section. I am relatively new. Can you tell how can I retrieve all those. Thanks Mizan Al Mim (talk) 20:58, 8 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Mizan Al Mim: Well, I'm not sure that there is honestly any good policy reason why the club details were removed. I think the reason that the edit was originally undone was because it did not seem to fit the particular style of the rest of the piece. I undid the edit because it appeared to be an instance where you were just trying to add a bunch of unrelated content to a college page. I noticed that another editor, Ponyo, also undid your contribution, saying "Undid revision 840272368 by Mizan Al Mim (talk) the restored text contains a number of copyright violations and is overly-promotional in tone." So, at this point, I would take the issue to the talk page of the article since you don't want to be caught accidentally edit warring (the three-revert rule applies) even though your edits may be legitimate. Does that help? - zfJames Please ping me in your reply on this page (chat page , contribs) 21:08, 8 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Review the page. edit

Hello! Can you please review this page Walmart? I've added the official statement published by Walmart news on the acquisition of Flipkart as a reference but the thing is, it asks for a reviewer and I saw that you are the right one to do it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.226.132.255 (talk) 18:16, 9 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

@117.226.132.255: While I would love to review those changes (which look pretty good), I am not a pending changes reviewer. Great work though! I'll be looking with interest to see if those edits pass, which they should soon. Thanks for asking, and feel free to ask me or go to the Wikipedia:Teahouse if you've got any other questions! Either way, I would recommend creating an account so that you can get your own user page and work towards earning the trust required to make changes to protected pages along with other rights. :) - zfJames Please ping me in your reply on this page (chat page , contribs) 20:51, 9 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Donovan Mitchell edit

You removed some of my edits to Donovan Mitchell's page and claimed they were not verifiable. Every fact or statement I included was cited with a link to an article from ESPN. Curious as to why you took issue with the verifiability of any of that content.Ballislife1891 (talk) 21:56, 9 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Fixed @Ballislife1891: I'm glad that you pointed that out! I had indeed removed valid and sourced material in addition to your unreferenced quote. I meant to just remove the quote, which didn't have a valid source. Thanks for bringing that to my attention! - zfJames Please ping me in your reply on this page (chat page , contribs) 22:00, 9 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
@ZfJames: Gotcha, thanks for clarifying. Must have missed the citation on the quote as it came from the same article. Put it in last so I probably forgot to re-cite. Thanks so much! Ballislife1891 (talk) 22:03, 9 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Thank you so much but am totally lost.....help edit

Thank you for your kind words but I just dont really know what I am doing. I wanted the athens image to go as have better pics. I am trying to tidy it up as a tv company is interested in Dad's story. One French woman replied in french and said one pic was blurry, and removed it, fair enough so I put in clearer pics sent but they are very old pics of course. Then I got another message in French which I do not understand. I know I could be not following rules, but I am too stupid to know what they are. Could you take pity on me ;) kareenzaKareenza (talk) 14:20, 12 May 2018 (UTC) re terence hoganReply

@Kareenza: French? Could you maybe post a link to the area where that happened? I definitely take pity on you! See my next message! :) - zfJames Please ping me in your reply on this page (chat page , contribs) 19:57, 12 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Context I assume this user was the French woman. Kareenza created commons:Commons:Deletion requests/Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion by mistake, and Lacrymocéphale responded in this deleted edit. -- SLV100 (talk) 23:35, 12 May 2018 (UTC) :)Reply
@SLV100: I'm afraid that I can't see that deleted edit... Thank you for the help though! :) - zfJames Please ping me in your reply on this page (chat page , contribs) 23:38, 12 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

someone has taken all my pics down that I put up on my dead fathers site today and is accusing me of vandalism edit

PLEASE can you help. I have not been on my wiki site for years. I came back today and uploaded pictures they have all been taken down and they mention vandalism and I have been blocked. I dont understand please help me kareenzaKareenza (talk) 16:55, 12 May 2018 (UTC) terence hoganReply

@Kareenza: Hmmm... While I don't see anything in your chat page which would indicate that you have been blocked from editing. From the looks of it, Terence Hogan and Roz Hogan in Cannes.jpg was deleted because of a copyright violation, as were:
He_had_film_star_looks_and_he_had_a_good_heart.jpg
Terence_Hogan_and_daughter_journalist_karen_hogan_on_beach_1974.jpg

Terry_aged_twenty_lost_in_thought_when_his_life_from_the_slums_of_his_childhood_was_turning_around.jpg
At this point, I would recommend only uploading your original work (not copied from any other source) and I would read Commons:Licensing to see what you can and cannot add under a license. Does that help? I wish I could offer more advice, but I haven't yet specialized in picture-uploading and Wikipedia copyright requirements. Also, be aware that your changes will be viewed with additional skepticism since you are closely connected with your topic. Feel free to post a question on your own page with the {{help me}} tag, or you can ask at the Teahouse. Thanks!  :) - zfJames Please ping me in your reply on this page (chat page , contribs) 19:54, 12 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
@ZfJames:You have been really kind, some have not been kind especially a comment regarding my job. Why would people on here be nasty when I am barely on here except to look at other peaoples great work and have not the experience of others. Most of the images are in google images from an big article I wrote in a Newspaper. As they are in the public domain do you know if I can use them thank you for your kindness K Kareenza (talk) 00:21, 13 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Kareenza: Thank you, Kareenza! I appreciate your compliment. Yes, people sometimes have a tendency to 'bite the newcomers' which is unhealthy and discouraged. Fortunately, most of the editors here may come across rough only because they are trying to solve numerous issues on Wikipedia at a time and do not have the time to address each person's individual questions in-depth, if that makes sense. If someone ever leaves you a personal attack, you will want to read this section (as well as the rest of the page). If someone makes a legal threat, there are other avenues of response. I doubt that someone has actually made an intentional personal attack or legal threat, but it's good information for you to know.
Ok, here's the best I can do with that question: Chances are good that the images you selected from the internet were copyrighted by the newspaper which published them. In other words, since they were published by a money-making company, chances are good that they are probably not available for commercial reuse and derivative works. To check that assumption, you can look on the publisher's website (or other resources that you have for that source) to see if they have an image copyright policy or image license listed. If there is a license, then it must allow for commercial reuse and the creation of derivative works (I got that information from here). Alternatively, you can search for relevant images as described here or you can contact the publisher (the website that published the source) to find out if they will distribute the image under a different license (asking for permission). I would recommend reading the Finding Images Tutorial article to see if that information will help!  :) - zfJames Please ping me in your reply on this page (chat page , contribs) 00:52, 13 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

@ZfJames: I am so glad to find someone as nice as you. I have looked at the google pics that all say daily mail who I work for. I think this is too hard for me and I want to give up. It is sad as I have/own all the pics passed down to me, it looks like I am locked in and there is nothing I can do. I dont understand why the greek oic is up thought through wiki bur now I cant upload anything. Sorry to have taken up so much of your time. I posted on Wikimedia commons help but they wont know more than you, what a kind guy yo are kareenza Kareenza (talk) 01:19, 13 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Kareenza: Not a problem at all! I hope that you can find some help! You can always upload your own images to a photo-sharing site and put them under a free-to-reuse-commercially license, which will help you a bit. All right, I do have one confession to make: I did make some changes to your article (grouping, re-arranging, etc.) in an effort to bring your content into closer alignment with Wikipedia's (sometimes dreaded) manual of style (which is kind of a general reference, I know). Realize that I did my absolute level best to keep in all of the information you added and I only removed stuff when I felt that it was absolutely necessary to improve the flow of and the neutral point of view expressed in the article. My goal there was to make sure that the article survived and grew on Wikipedia instead of just getting tagged for deletion and thrown in the dumpster (certainly is possible). Your old copy was very good book material (like really good—you have a phenomenal journalist/author style), but Wikipedia is much more staid and dry than the average well-written book (in my experience) because it is an encyclopedia. Your original copy is always available here in case you want to copy it elsewhere, expand it, and make a book or something... ;) I appreciate your time and effort to improve Wikipedia, and it has been a pleasure to learn something new about a person I had never met or read about before (and isn't that, deep down, the hidden purpose of Wikipedia? Shhhh.... ;). Good luck editing and I hope that you will continue to contribute to Wikipedia!  :) - zfJames Please ping me in your reply on this page (chat page , contribs) 01:37, 13 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
@ZfJames: I just feel, upset, defeated by the whole process, when so many on her get away with no deletions or ammendments. I have heard from a wikimedia about explainin where I got the photos from an which jounral. I wrote for the daily mail the article, all the pics are on google under daily mail, I have the copyright of the whole feature, so I do not know how I can be refused kareenza but I think you will have had enough of me by now and its been a very hard day and I wish I had never come on here kareenzaKareenza (talk) 01:48, 13 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Kareenza: Do you have the copyright of the whole article including the pictures? Are you sure of that? If you are, I would contact the editor who unblocked you (link to your talk page on Commons) to see if that makes a difference.
I'm glad that you got on here and created this article since I believe that it has more of a chance than many other unassessed or even start-class articles.  :) You've done good work! Yes, it will get refactored, edited, and ultimately re-edited into oblivion, but such is the life of an article on Wikipedia. The important thing is that you have added a great article about an interesting new topic. I'm sure that, although I will not always be able to respond as quickly (I do have college—see above), I certainly am always willing to help out a fellow Wikipedian. Cheers! - zfJames Please ping me in your reply on this page (chat page , contribs) 01:56, 13 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
@ZfJames: I will not worry you anymore as my nephew has his exams now as a doctor and I feel for you. Now there yet more questions on the page that looked okay before and now looks like I have got everything wrong. I dont know how to cite anything more everything is in the books and my article and the tv show I gave so it looks now very messy. This was all because a tv companyy wants to run a story about my dad in a docuseries, I wanted to have a fresh page, it has gone now with edits needed on it that I do not know how to do, but I know you did your best for me. I wish you so much success and sorry for everything kareenzaKareenza (talk) 02:27, 13 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
@ZfJames: Well James I have just heard they are discussing to take down the whole article. I may not get a chance to speak to you again but THANK YOU for everything you did for me, now the shock is gone I know everything you did for me was from a good kind heart and you put so much work into it and it does look smart now. I think now someone just wants me off wiki but I dont know why as I have cited some of the sources and done everything I could but people are not giving me a chance to get things right pls take care of yourself. My nephew is enjoying a weekend away and I hope you will thank you again kareenzaKareenza (talk) 09:45, 13 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Kareenza: I hope that your nephew is successful in his exams! You haven't gotten everything wrong—you're just new, and that's ok. Don't apologize for being new—you've done nothing to apologize for. If you had been involved in vandalism or something like that, then perhaps you would need to apologize, but you certainly don't need to apologize just because there were some mix-ups. You are totally welcome! Just doing the job of a Wikipedia editor.  :) Thank you for adding to Wikipedia! By the way, plenty of articles get tagged for deletion and then are not deleted. I think your article has a good chance of being kept. The article passed and was not deleted! Congratulations! Good work, and I hope you come back occasionally to edit some articles!
You know, if you look at the top of my page, you'll see how my first edits were received. I did one good faith edit and they were reverted. I was also given a level four (single-stage) warning template for vandalism. Needless to say, that is an extreme example of someone being overly protective of Wikipedia (I've figured out just how egregious that really was after more and more time on Wikipedia). That's all water under the bridge and I've cleared it up, but the point is that people are sometimes harsh—especially with new editors. I'm not sure why (new editors should be given the most grace of anyone on here), but it seems to work that way. Nobody wants you off of Wikipedia, but there are some portions of Wikipedia editing that have super stringent guidelines that, when enforced against new editors like yourself, can make it seem like the world is against you. Does that make sense? As I mentioned before, I wish your page the best of luck and I hope that your nephew has fun as a doctor.  :) Cheers! - zfJames Please ping me in your reply on this page (chat page , contribs) 18:32, 13 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

@ZfJames: What a very special lad you are and I cannot believe anyone would give you a warning of all people. I wish I could help you in some way. If you ever want to get involved in writing for the press always give me a ping!!! Now someone has ripped that article out and left bare facts and took out my citations (I was a dunce at putting them in) and the photo. I think in the early stage of our conversations you warned me this might happen. I dont know why someone would want to do this, its very very harsh. Dad seems to have been taken down from a deletion option but instead they have reduced his page to nothing which in my veiw as they could not delete the page they have cut it to nothing which is awful. The worst part is a tv company wants to run a doc on dad and how crime does not pay and now this has happened. For seven years it has been up as you know. I hate to write to you anymore as you will be like my lovely nephew, tired and studying every hour but I feel you are a bit of a brain box and will rock it kareenzaKareenza (talk) 18:50, 13 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Kareenza: Why thank you! I really appreciate your offer and I will let you know if (possibly when!) I am ever able to write for the press.  :) I have always had an interest in journalism and I have learned to appreciate good writing. The cuts were actually reversed, I think, since you saw the page. Removing unsourced information is not a standard Wikipedia practice (we usually just find sources instead of aiming for wholesale deletion). Thank you so much! Yes, I do have a few assignments that I will work on after this, but I am always available on my talk page whenever you want to give me a ring! I (should, anyway) have the discretion to work and then respond, but I admit that sometimes responses come before work. ;D Anyway, let me know if you have any more questions or need any more help!  :) - zfJames Please ping me in your reply on this page (chat page , contribs) 20:23, 13 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

I think you kindly left a message on the pics angle which are really important to me, I received an email and I replied on the page. BTW It is much easier then you think to get into the press. With your gift for writing and deep understanding of work like this, and composing, come in through the back door, and it is as easy as that, I can give editors emails and what they are looking for, We need younger people on the paper like you, thousands of articles are used online and now worldwide, and you must have come across some exciting projects of course the DM loves to scare the public story, I work on health mostly, and facts have to be very strict. But it started with a 750 word proposal and an idea not written about before that affects thousands. so you need where, what, when and why and anything from a new angle. I had a misspent youth so my grammar can be poor but you have everything but keep a story in line with what you are interested in and something the public needs informing on and always add what you have done on here which is impressive. If one paper shoots it down, others may not. I know the Huffington post loves articles but they dont always pay but you would be building up a resume, so go for it. Sharp, brief but a wow factor always helps plus photos if necessary or if needed like I need, two specialist quotes re medical to balance an article. back to the bloomin pic ;) I have said what I think after receiving your email but did forgot to ping you kareenzaKareenza (talk) 19:38, 14 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Nick Studio 10 edit

Stop re-adding the reception section on that page. It has no place there, plus you ignored my edit summary and instead labeled it as vandalism. This is per this edit summary here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Nick_Studio_10&type=revision&diff=735907719&oldid=735898696 2605:A601:7013:4100:88:C934:5AE5:AAB0 (talk) 15:27, 30 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

@2605:A601:7013:4100:88:C934:5AE5:AAB0: You can check my comment on your page. Wikipedia's deletion policy does not have a section for material that you personally disagree with... Please do not keep reverting material... zfJames Please add {{ping|ZfJames}} to your reply (talk page, contribs) 15:34, 30 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
We do have a reliable source policy, however, and that basically says that a couple of YouTube rants by viewers outside of the block's demographic hardly demonstrate 'criticism' by any means (the YouTube section on WP:ELNO also further explains why we rarely link YT videos to justify criticism). Your edit stays out; the block only lived three months and outside of a select few who need to realize the network programs for children and not them as a 35 year-old male, nobody else cared. These items have a long history of being reverted as non-notable, and I would have reverted you the same as 2605: did. Nate (chatter) 21:06, 30 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Agree @Mrschimpf: Fair enough. I was just trying to patrol for obvious vandalism edits and the unexplained blanking of a whole section (which apparently provided negative press of a product or service) caught my attention. Looking back at the edit in question, the palpable lack of a reliable source should have clarified the situation for me. zfJames Please add {{ping|ZfJames}} to your reply (talk page, contribs) 21:49, 30 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
No problem; I looked back at this morning's edits and I could see why you'd think that the deletion was unwarranted without context and the editing history. Glad it's all resolved! Nate (chatter) 21:59, 30 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
