Eritrea page edit

It has been noted that you are cutting out signficant portions of the Eritrea article. We encourage your input and hope you will discuss any further changes through the talk page. You seem to be removing a great deal of referenced material and suggest that you discuss so that we do not encounter a rv war. Also your edits are creating structural problems and we hope you will figure out what is going wrong so you can fix this. Thank you again for your interest. --Merhawie 18:55, 2 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have not removed any referenced material this time (the Damot stuff which if I can recall even you commented on how it is superfluous). On the other hand you did remove referenced material when you removed the "prehistory" part of Eritrea. So I ask for a little balance. Reading the previous Eritrea page, especially the history part, it read something like :Eritrea in relation to Ethiopia, and Ethiopia too and especially Ethiopia and including Ethiopia...This is obviously because the chief contributor to the Eritrea page is an Ethiopian and as such has a political interest to over-emphasize Eritrea's historical
"Ethiopianness" and downplay the existence of any pre-colonial separate identity that contradicts the concept of any sort of an "Ethiopian" Empire. It is not a NPOV and as an Eritrean I find it the most distasteful form of weaseldom. It would be in the interest of Eritreans as well as those interested in Eritrea to be able to unpeel the labels "Eritrea" (and "Ethiopia" if you must) to understand what lies at the bottom of it all. I do not feel emphasizing Ethiopia to the extent as was done so far is constructive. It should be noted that most of the material in the history section (written by Yom and other Ethiopian conributors) article is not referenced material. Referenced material also does not always spell relevance.
The Ethiopian you are referring to is named Yom. I agree with you and I had complained about it before. His argument for removal was that it was too specific so if you want to add it state your argument on the Eritrea talk page. If he does not argue then you should definately go ahead and replace it. Also the bit was removed I did a bit more research and place the combination on the History of Eritrea page. I am glad to hear that finally another Eritrean is taking up the fight here on Wikipedia against Ethiopianists. Because of this I encourage you to join the Eritrean Wikiproject! I hope to see you there! --Merhawie 20:30, 2 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Eritrea, History Section edit

First I would like to say I am glad that there is finally another eritraen voice on Wikipedia. Secondly I would like to recommend that you check out the India page as I think we should cut down the history section on the Eritrea page to about that long. Let me know whawt you think! --Merhawie 12:43, 3 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

thanx I agree there need to be more of us contributing to the representation of our country, rather than have an ethiopian weasle nonsense everywhere. I mean it's amazing how Ethiopian history as a whole and the Ethiopian related pages are like a textbook example of weaseldom, peacocks and other wiki-do nots. That's fine for them, but when it begins to carry over to matters that pertain to other countries, it becomes too ugly...I checked out the india page, it's cute and I agree the first page should be narrowed down to a few paragraphs of history and move the rest to 'History of Eritrea page'.

This is your last warning. The next time you delete or blank page contents or templates from Wikipedia, you will be blocked from editing. Anonymous DissidentTalk -- (dated 16:40, 21 June 2007 UTC)

Why don't find a hobby more suitable for your age?
You have read my userpage then? I have other hobbies, but I like Wikipedia. My hobby is not as questionable as what yours seems to be -- you seem intent on degrading the encyclopedia, while I try to help build it. Kind regards, -- Anonymous DissidentTalk -- (dated 16:59, 21 June 2007 UTC)
That is your interpretation of it, perhaps fitting for your level of maturity.
What interpretation would you prefer? I have answered your question exactly. -- Anonymous DissidentTalk -- (dated 17:05, 21 June 2007 UTC)
I never asked you to evaluate your job performance visavi mine on wikipedia. It was gratuitous and pompous yet forgivable given your young age and lack of maturity.
Ahh yes. It could not possibly be considered gratuitous and pompous to patronize someone purely on the basis of age and imperiously criticize their level of maturity. Thank you for forgiving me by the way - we wont tie the noose this time eh? -- Anonymous DissidentTalk -- (dated 17:16, 21 June 2007 UTC)
Ahh no. You were not being patronized, you were being corrected. And it was not purely on the basis of your age, but on the level of maturity (or lack thereof) that it came accompanied with.
Are you stereotyping the people contained in my age group, or simply making the statement that it is your opinion that I am immature, but very youthful, so that is to be expected? And by the way, it was me who came to your talk page to do the correcting not so long ago, remember? -- Anonymous DissidentTalk -- (dated 17:32, 21 June 2007 UTC)
Put your maturity on the test and try to answer your own question (correctly). Yes you came to my talk page thinking you were about to do some correcting and ended up being corrected on that very matter:)
I will do as you say, and answer the question, but I want to know - why should you be the judger of what is correct and what is not? -- Anonymous DissidentTalk -- (dated 17:41, 21 June 2007 UTC)
I am not the 'judger'. It just fact. You were accusing me of making unlawful edits and threatening with a shrill tone to prevent me from doing so, providing me with a link to wikipedia policy which did not corroborate your point of view in any way. My edits were sourced and perfecty justified and moreover if you look at the Eritrea page history you can see that my edits were preceded by those of others, mainly Ethiopians (Yom, Gyrofrog) who proceeded to delete and add "sourced" information of their own, with an unusual abundance in information about Ethiopia and Eritrea's ties to it, which I am not alone in objecting to. If you are familiar with the history of the two country's (at least from reading the pages and their inputs on the talk/discussion page) you can see that this is hardly guided by a purely innocent intent. Sourced information does not mean relevant information, there are many sources and they all have their bias. The Eritrea page is not meant to resemble a government sponsored tourist/propoganda broschure and I am glad to see that it doesn't. But it is also not meant to be an outlet for

certain Ethiopian nationalists' misgivings about Eritrea's seccession from their country rendering them landlocked, or their frustration with a point of view that contradicts their traditional historical dogma of a continuous (maritime), unified multimillenial state.

I doubt this will make you any happier with my work, but for the record, I'm not Ethiopian. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 20:13, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Whatever the reasoning behind your recent activity on both of those articles happens to be, they have been constantly reverted. Until you can place this information into the text properly, per a number of policies and guidelines such as the MoS, and other texts relevelent to the problem, they will continue to be reverted, as far as I can see, whether by me, or some other editor. -- Anonymous DissidentTalk -- (dated 20:18, 21 June 2007 UTC)
Sure Gyrofrog ok, and as for the 12 year old, "Manual of Style"

is a very interesting motivation indeed, but just as irrelevant. What can be reverted one way, can also be reverted the other way as I'm sure you have noticed.

As patronising as ever, you again note my age in a dark light and a bad context. And yes, I have noticed. Please also note WP:3RR when you say things like that. -- Anonymous DissidentTalk -- (dated 20:40, 21 June 2007 UTC)
I called you 12 year old because it's quicker than dissonant disservice. I also called your input on MoS irrelevant because it is. (The style of the previous articles to which you keep reverting back to is no better than my edits). I have nothing against 12 year

olds, or you, I only object to your input. Maybe the dark light, patronizing tone and bad context etc. you perceive comes from your raging teen hormones making you inessantly try to assert yourself as an undefiable authority on matters you know very little about. Just my humble opinion;)

He's already violated 3RR, but hasn't been officially warned. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 20:44, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
It seems you have already taken the appropriate action to dispense justice in the section below. Perhaps this will bring an end to the conflicts. -- Anonymous DissidentTalk -- (dated 20:46, 21 June 2007 UTC)
At what point did you violate the 15RR?
I didnt, as there is no such rule :) -- Anonymous DissidentTalk -- (dated 21:30, 21 June 2007 UTC)
I'm sorry for not clarifying but that was a joke:)
That was quite obvious :) -- Anonymous DissidentTalk -- (dated 21:37, 21 June 2007 UTC)

3RR edit

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Ethiopia. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content which gains a consensus among editors. You are already in violation (compare [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], vs. [6]), consider this your only warning. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 20:44, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

You should also realize it is extremely difficult to take your edits in good faith, based on your rewording of the commented text. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 20:51, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
If he is already in violation, shouldn't he be reported? -- Anonymous DissidentTalk -- (dated 20:56, 21 June 2007 UTC)
Very well. I've made a report, but indicated that he wasn't warned until after his last edit. Perhaps I'm too generous but I thought it was proper to first warn him. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 21:09, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ok then. It seems fair - he is well in breach of three reverts - 5 now isn't it? -- Anonymous DissidentTalk -- (dated 21:11, 21 June 2007 UTC)

Blocked edit

I've blocked you for 24 hours for violation of the three-revert rule on Ethiopia and edit-warring on Eritrea. Your editing up this point and the dialog above suggest that you think following the standards of this community is optional. It's not. It's mandatory. Future failure to follow our standards, particularly as it applies to revert-warring over articles, will be met with a block after appropriate warnings. Please sign your talk page posts edit

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 21:14, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Is this another wikipedia traffic rule or just a suggestion to be ignored?
It's a courtesy to other Wikipedians, so they know who is talking to them, & to whom they should address their reply. Otherwise your comments can easily be overlooked -- or simply ignored. And it never hurts to be friendly to your fellow Wikipedians. -- llywrch 15:37, 7 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Theres no point of modifying the article as like this. If you think Ethiopia article is not goes with WP:NPOV then place the {{POV}} on top of the article and save it. After that make a note on the Talk:Ethiopia to describe your {{POV}} tag addition. And I like to suggest you to read WP:CALM before make your next edit.
