Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Zendug. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the article Michael Savage, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your circle, your organization, its competitors, projects or products;
  • instead propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Please let us know if you are related to Michael Savage in any way. Lemongirl942 (talk) 01:35, 21 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Not sure exactly what I am doing... I am not related to, or work for Michael Savage... I am a friend of someone who does, and he asked me if i could try to edit the page (they are not technically inclined) so basically as i now understand it, anybody can write / change pages, but if there is information that someone does not want up, there is nothing they can do about it? or do you have to resort to lawsuits? how are these problems resolved?Zendug (talk) 03:59, 21 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

The subject of an article has no control over the article, as is only proper if the content is to remain properly neutral; they do not own it in any way. If there is false content, then somebody needs to make note of this on the article's talk page, with reliable neutral third-party sources for the correction. For the time being, we are willing to assume good faith and give you the benefit of a doubt about your mention of lawsuits; I will only mention that truth is an absolute defense against assertions of libel, and has been since before the United States was a country. --Orange Mike | Talk 08:09, 23 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
