November 2023 edit

There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Bretonbanquet (talk) 22:27, 6 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Bretonbanquet I don't want any trouble, mister. I am just correcting mistakes involving nationalities. You said some members of Fleetwood Mac (especially Jeremy Spencer and Danny Kirwan) should be listed as British and not English, yet their infobox clearly states where they were born. Well, you've got it, because you're edit warring while logged out. Birthplace is not an indicator of nationality, certainly not on Wikipedia. Funny how you say that in this case [1], yet it doesn't apply here [2]. Saying these guys are British is not a mistake, it's a fact, as shown in their passports. Read WP:UKCHANGE, specifically "Re-labelling nationalities on grounds of consistency—making every UK citizen "British", or converting each of those labelled "British" into their constituent nationalities—is strongly discouraged." @Bretonbanquet I am not saying it is a mistake. However, listing some celebrities (be them English-born, Scottish-born, Welsh-born or Northern Irish-born) British is very broad and applies better to those who were born in a UK nation but raised in another UK nation, or for those who were born in an area that was, at the time of their birth, a British colony or sultanate. If what you said was the case, then I suppose it should be more appropriate to listed all English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish people as just British, because that is what their passport says. In that case, I would absolutely agree with you, but that is not the case with most articles about British people who were born and raised in the same nation.
