Medical articles edit

Hi Youngblom.m. I'm glad you asked me before editing that article. Because Wikipedia is so widely used as a source for medical information (despite the disclaimer that it shouldn't be), there's a real interest in making sure that medical content is as accurate as possible. For that reason, there are special sourcing requirements for medical-related content, which is outlined at WP:MEDRS. There are also guidelines for structuring page layouts at WP:MEDMOS. Wiki Ed has also created a handout for editing medical-related content which is available here. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 16:18, 2 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

P3 Peer Review edit

Great job overall - it was very informative!

There were some things that might be further explained or linked in order to make it more encyclopedia friendly: -What is the tail suspension test? -What is the forced swimming test? -More thorough explanation of histone acetylation

I thought it was really great that you used multiple citations in the same sentence like a literature review. Are there any other studies you could add since there are only 3 citations?

In the first paragraph, I think you should move the sentence "Recent studies estimate..." further up so there is an earlier introduction for why these are important. I think that might make the first paragraph flow better.

Quick minor issue: between BDNF and GDNF: put and instead of a comma.

P3 Draft Review edit

-The sections being added into the existing article make sense, and focus on a manageable and specific set of topics regarding HDAC inhibitors.

-Three sources are cited in this draft, and while you're only adding three sections in at the moment, maybe see what some other research has to say about the gene expression effects and depressive symptoms?

-It may be a good idea to link out to other Wikipedia articles for the following terms: histone acetylation, gene loci (Locus {genetics}), mRNA, neuron, plasticity, valproic acid, sodium butyrate, TST, FST. These terms are not necessarily everyday language and it would increase the article's presence within wikipedia if these connections are made.

-The original article would benefit from some changes, particularly in the introduction and the "Cellular biochemistry/pharmacology" sections. The introduction could use a little more explanation on what exactly these compounds are, it seems too brief in my opinion. In the first section of the body of the article, the explanation here is a wall of text with very few sources. If it all possible, this section would become more accessible if it was made more concise, or if the information were broken up into multiple smaller sections.

-Overall, the sections you intend to add to the existing start-class article in Wikipedia are well-written and not too technical for the general public audience.
