I have posted a new article on Heydar Ghiai which has been placed in a Temp/Talk page over a week ago due to possible copyright issues which I explained in the talk page. Could you tell me when the article that I wrote from scratch will be placed in the article section? It would be a great loss not to feature Heydar Ghiai who was a major Architect in Iran.
- I took care of it. Probably an admin would have gotten around to it someday, but there are lots of backlogs unfortunately. Royal Tehran Hilton edit
- I noticed that you rewrote the article on the Parsian Estehglal Hotel/Royal Tehran Hilton to remove the name of the British architect. I'm not sure why you did this, I have fixed the page and added a link to prove that he worked on the hotel. jamesluckard 12:55, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
- I have not found any published source with regards to your claim. All plans of the Royal Hilton show Heydar Ghiai as architect as well as many publisged books and architectural magazines of the time. Please find a publication before making this claim.

- Sources on Wikipedia need to be scholarly. Scholarly means articles in reputable publications (ISBN numbers included with page numbers)) and books (ISBN number included with page numbers) photos sold on eBay, internet obituaries and/or articles are not considered as scholarly. Moreover, an architect who designs a building has his name and signature on its plans as Heydar Ghiai has on all of the Tehran Royal Hilton plans. To assign another architect's name on a project is a serious violation of architectural copyright and can have legal consequences. Having said that, It is possible that Raglan Squire may have been one of the many consultants on that project, but not the architect. Please provide scholarly and legal proof of Raglan Squire's involvement in this project.
- If you would check the links I provided, you would see that the first one actually is a published book - "Architecture and Globalisation in the Persian Gulf Region" Edited by Murray Fraser, University College London, UK and Nasser Golzari, University of Westminster, UK
The two articles are from reputable publications - The Times of Malta and The Telegraph, very major newspapers. They are not just random internet sites. There is also no rule that sources must be books. And the photo is an official photo with an official credit, not just a random photo. I really don't understand why you are so against acknowledging Mr. Squire's involvement in this hotel when these are just a few of the countless mentions that turn up when you search on Google.
Are you related to Mr. Ghiai? Do you have access to the actual blueprints of the hotel? I have contacted RSP, Raglan Squire Partners, through their Facebook page. I hope they can provide information up to your standards. And please stop threatening me with legal action, that is nonsense. Wikipedia is a user generated site, and as long as people add information in good faith, using reputable sources, as I have done, we can all get along. jamesluckard 9:09, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
- I just found another obituary for Mr. Squire from perhaps the most reputable newspaper in the world, The Times of London. here is the link:
It says, and I quote: "Proposals for a hotel in Kuwait (subsequently abandoned) drew the attention of a construction company which had been retained by the Shah to build a hotel in Tehran. Squire’s firm drew up the plans for the hotel, which the Shah asked the Hilton chain to take over early in the development stages. Through his association with the company, Squire drew commissions to design the Hiltons at Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Jakarta, Tunis and Nicosia as well."

As I said, newspaper articles report what they get via interviews or press releases, they are not scholarly references. We need books and/or architectural publication sources with ISBN numbers, page numbers and date of publication. Mr. Squire may have been one of the many consultants on that project but he was not the architect of record and mentioning that he was is a copy write violation.
- I think you're misunderstanding a number of things. First, a copyright violation would be reproducing a portion of a copywritten book, magazine etc, without permission of the owner. Second, there is no requirement on Wikipedia for every fact in every article to be sourced from what you claim are "scholarly sources". The sources I have cited are from reputable newspapers and a publication of a major university. Third, every article I have provided shows that Mr. Squire was the principal architect on the hotel. I don't know if you're aware, but Hilton's common practice at the time was to hire a major American or British architect, who would work with a local architect. For example, this was the case on the Habana Hilton in Cuba, designed by the Los Angeles architect Welton Becket, in collaboration with two local Havana architects. Perhaps this is how Mr. Squire and Mr. Ghiai came to both be associated with the Royal Tehran Hilton.
I would like to ask again, are you a relative of Mr. Ghiai's? Do you have access to the blueprints or architectural publications? You have not cited any of them. If you could do so, that would be very helpful. jamesluckard 23:10, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
I shall provide full documentation and bibliography on Heydar Ghiai being the architect of the Tehran Royal Hilton and reference it on the Esteghlal Hotel page as it was done on Heydar Ghiai's page. This I shall do at the end of February asI am out of the office for a week. Moreover, I should be more than happy to scan a couple of the hotel plans showing Heydar Ghiai as architect and publish them on Wikipedia. Now for your information, the law in Iran did not allow any non Iranian to be architect of record. It was possible to hire a foreign architects as consultant but not as main architect. - I understand what you are saying, but I hope you note that I never once deleted Mr. Ghiai's name from the page, I only reinstated Mr.Squire's name each time you deleted it completely. Instead of deleting Mr. Squire entirely, perhaps we can find the correct wording so that both of their names can be properly included, as I have shown that a great many publications cite his connection with the hotel's design in some capacity. I'll also contact the Royal Institute of British Architects to see what information they have. It seems quite obvious to me that there was some form of collaboration between multiple architects, as was the case with the Habana Hilton, as cited above. I know we both just want this page to be as accurate as possible, and I am glad to see that you care as much as I do about this, I'm sure we can work things out. jamesluckard 06:01, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
-You are correct; such projects always have a main architect called architect of record, and many consultants or collaborators. I am also sure that between both our research and proofs via publications and various documents, we will come up with proper titles and wording. My initial feeling tells me that Me. Ghiai was the main architect who was commissioned by the Shah to design the Hilton but that the Hilton company wanted things designed to their standards and suggested Mr. Squire as a main consultant. - Ok, I included some 18 publications including dictionary of architects, Encyclopaedia, architectural publications and magasines with Heydar Ghiai as the architect for the Royal Tehran Hilton. I am willing to accept Mr. Squire as a design consultant for the Hilton corporation but not as the architect of record. I shall also try to scan one of the original plans for the hotel showing Mr. Ghiai as architect. That will take some time as I have to fetch very old archives.
- I see the citations you posted. Unfortunately none of them have links, so it's impossible for me to review any of the sources. I don't think that Mr. Squire should be left off entirely, this seems unfair, as he was credited in the multiple sources I linked. Perhaps we can agree that I can use the wording "The hotel's design also had contributions from noted British architect Raglan Squire, who also designed Hilton hotels in Tunis, Bahrain, Nicosia and Jakarta." I have never once removed Mr. Ghiai's name, I hope you will not continue to completely remove the name of someone who is credited in multiple sources with being involved with this hotel. I found the firm of Mr. Squire's son, Michael: http://www.squireandpartners.com/ I'm going to email them, perhaps they can help. I never heard back from RSP, the successor firm to Raglan Squire Partners, which is now located in Singapore and has no real connection to the old firm it seems. Hopefully Mr. Squire's son can help here.
- The sources I cited are all publication sources as should be in any encyclopedic article. Some references have ISBN numbers, others are known publication. Some may or may not have internet links, but internet references are not valid sources unless they refer to paper publications. As for Squire and Partners, we shall need to see at least an original floor plan with the architect's name on it. I am currently working on obtaining such floor plan from the firm of Heydar Ghiai and Associates which is now based in the EU and the USA. As I said before, it is likely that the Hilton Corporation may have askd Mr. Squire to consult on the project, but that does not make him the chief architect (aka architect of record).
