KY Medal of Honor edit

On the image upload page, it says "By uploading a file to which you hold the copyright, you agree to licence it under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License." That's fine by me. Do you think I still ought to specify on the image page that I do indeed agree to licence it under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License? Article Licensing edit

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Khobar Towers bombing edit

Hi,

I am reading the book "Black Gold" by George Orwel, and incidentally found that there are a couple of pages about the Khobar Towers bombing (pp. 80-81) that are copied verbatim from the Wikipedia article, mostly including the sections that you added to that article. Since you explicitly donated your contributions to the public domain, Mr. Orwel has no obligation to give any credit for this material. So I'm writing this message just to let you know. --Gabi S. 19:22, 5 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I just thought about it, and I think that the GFDL doesn't bind. The text can be considered as being in the public domain beforehand, so that anyone can use it, either for inclusion in a book, or in a Wikipedia article, or even use it as lyrics for a song--all without any permission. For example, most official US documents are in the public domain, and several books were published with just selected US documents on specific topics. -- Gabi S. 06:38, 8 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Black gold pg 80.png) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Black gold pg 80.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. List of Unexplained Booms edit

List of unexplained booms

This is a list of unexplained booms reported through major media outlets. The cause of these are unknown, however some have been shown to be consistent with supersonic aircraft, perhaps top secret military planes like Aurora (aircraft).

Paper: Seismic detection of sonic booms.9

"Bob Dollar of the USGS told the Register that Caltech scientists reviewed seismograms from Tuesday night's event in Orange County. "These data are consistent with a sonic event coming onshore near Dana Point and traveling northward inland," Dollar said. "The energy traveled across our seismic sensor network at the velocity of a compressional wave in air rather than the velocity of a similar wave through the ground, which is much faster," Dollar said.10

Speedy deletion of List of unexplained booms edit

A tag has been placed on List of unexplained booms requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Proposed deletion of List of unexplained booms edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article List of unexplained booms, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

List of external links, not an encyclopedia article. Fails WP:NOT and WP:OR.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Article Incubator Invitation for Bocconi School of Law Student-Edited Papers edit

Hi. I have put an article on Bocconi School of Law Student-Edited Papers in the article incubator, here: Wikipedia:Article Incubator/Bocconi School of Law Student-Edited Papers. Considering your previous experience editing articles on law journals, feel free to cooperate if you have any practical ideas to help establish notability. Incidentally, let me anticipate that the journal is actually the first student-edited legal working paper series, which has been created in Europe better to adapt to the editorial panorama of the Old Continent, where student-edited law reviews are not nearly as popular as they are in the US. I have already provided references (e.g. an article appeared on the German Law Journal) for these claims. Thanks for any help you may provide me with, --Grasshopper6 (talk) 10:53, 5 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Unreferenced BLPs edit

Hello Ydorb! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 944 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the unreferencedBLP tag. Here is the list:

 1. James Altucher - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
 2. Benjamin Civiletti - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:36, 15 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
