Request reason:

I made that edit in Middle School. I have since learned much about Wikipedia and anonymously edited the page for the Tuyuhun language.Xaminaf (talk) 16:53, 21 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Decline as unresponsive- you may make a new request when you are able to respond. 331dot (talk) 08:20, 21 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Unblock discussion

edit

User was blocked three years ago. Inclined to unblock. Needs discussion with @Huon:. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 19:43, 21 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

So the main argument towards being unblocked is block evasion? Before the block, the user's other edits beyond the vandalism were trivia and unexplained removal of sourced content. Three years is a considerable amount of time, but without an explanation of how the future edits will differ from the past ones I don't think time served is on its own a reason to unblock. And if this is indeed Xaminaf, then I don't think an unblock would benefit the encyclopedia. Huon (talk) 23:11, 21 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Huon: if it makes a difference, since they're part of a class their contributions are monitored by their instructor and by me, so hopefully they'll be on their best behaviour. If you're not comfortable with this, that's fine (please take this as explanation of guard-rails, not me pressuring you to agree), I'll speak to their instructor about having them work on an alternative assignment. I see a pattern here of some arguably well-meaning language-related edits followed by random vandalism a few months later. I don't doubt that they would be on their best behavior while they're closely monitored, but I see no reason to expect that the pattern of random vandalism some months after language-related edits would change if we unblocked him. I'm neither active enough nor inclined to keep periodically checking Xaminaf's edits every few months. If another admin feels that Xaminaf's unblock request sufficiently addresses his past behavior, I wouldn't object to an unblock, but I don't think it does. Huon (talk) 16:17, 22 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Huon, as I said, I will be monitoring his behaviour, and obviously would reblock if needed. That said, I obviously have a COI here, and there's no way I'd feel comfortable do the unblock myself. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 20:03, 22 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Huon and Ian (Wiki Ed): - I'd be more inclined to unblock under these circumstances than Huon may be, but would want to hear a bit more from the subject themselves on how they see themselves editing, say as part of this group. Were we to still disagree, then we can ask the Community to weigh in. It's not that I don't perceive the threat Huon does, of falling into bad habits once you're no longer watching, but we'd normally offer some ROPE in circumstances even without the small-o oversight you'd be providing.
