Leaving an edit summary

edit

When you edit a page, toward the bottom is an edit box with "Edit summary" above it. People who do Recent changes patrol and others may take a look at your edit. A good edit summary will let others understand your thinking and can help prevent them believing you are making unconstructive edits (or vandalism). If your edit is likely controversial, it would probably be put in the talk page of the article (click the "talk" tab) first so others can see and discuss the proposed changes (not really applicable in your added reference).

A good way to do a reference is <ref>{{cite web|title=Melendy, R. (1997): Bang-bang control development of permeability changes in a membrane model. | url=http://ir.library.oregonstate.edu/xmlui/handle/1957/9456}}</ref> Place the reference on the word[1] (<- I put it here) where you want it and it will automatically put a cite number "[1]" on that point and add the reference to the bottom of the page (there has to be a {{reflist}} usually on the bottom of the page (as below click the edit tab at the top to see the everything I added). See Template:cite web for more information. There are other templates similar to this one which are useful for references. You can also click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page to see how others have done it. Also, wp:rs and wp:citing sources are good references on sources.

References

edit
  1. ^ "Melendy, R. (1997): Bang-bang control development of permeability changes in a membrane model".

Also, please avoid using email addresses that may have been why your change was removed. It could also have been the unusual location where you put the reference as well. If you have any questions, feel free to ask on my talk page. You can also put {{helpme}} on your talk page (this page) with the question underneath and a volunteer should get back to you. Thanks for your contributions! Jim1138 (talk) 22:50, 2 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
