WP:OVERLINKING edit

Generally, we link only to the first instance of a term in an article. You created the third link to Brendan Dassey in the Steven Avery article. You also unnecessarily and inappropriately removed a "citation needed" tag. How about if you fix your mistakes? 32.218.47.208 (talk) 20:04, 24 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

OK, you fixed the removal of the "citation needed" tag, but you added a bare URL. How about if you format the citation properly? 32.218.47.208 (talk) 20:07, 24 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Disambiguation link notification for August 31 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited History of the papacy, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Claremont and Byzantines (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 07:39, 31 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Using Wikipedia as a source edit

I have reverted your edits to Battle of Roosebeke since all were sites that state the article is taken from Wikipedia. Wikipedia can not be used to reference Wikipedia articles. --Kansas Bear (talk) 04:57, 17 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Vincedumond, does it really say this on your user page, "Excellence in reference sources is important to me"? Given the number of times these issues have been raised, it's a good idea for you to start taking them seriously, since you could be blocked for a. continuing to drop in unverified content b. making a mockery of WP:RS and c. being unresponsive, uncollaborative, uncollegial. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 14:13, 17 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • And on Holyrood Abbey, please respect the existing format--a bibliography with short footnotes, not complete citations in every note. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 14:33, 17 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • You said, "You asked me if my striving toward excellence was serious. I cannot recall a time when my entries continued to drop in unverified content or makde a mockery of WP:RS or were unresponsive, uncollaborative,or uncollegial. My efforts are genuinely true to my goal of improving Wikipedia. The high number of contributions I see on Wikipedia without citations from verifiable or reliable sources is quite high. I try to decrease those calls for citation needed." (You said this in a completely unrelated section; let's keep it here.)

Well, many of your edits do add reliable sources--though, as I noted once or twice, you should respect the existing format. I now know what your formatting style is, and it's fine, but you shouldn't use that if there's already a different format in the article. My comment was prompted, really, by the strange edits on Battle of Roosebeke. If you add what is obviously something that looks like Wikipedia to cite a Wikipedia article, then one has to doubt you realized what you were doing. It would have been funny if that mirror had updated itself to include your citation of their mirror article. In that case that article would be citing itself also. Drmies (talk) 15:30, 17 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thank you edit

I appreciate your candid explanation. Im now learning how to do the entries for the abbreviated format. I prefer the abrevistrd format but i dont know how to enter it after a contribution. Can you guide me? Vincedumond 15:56, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

  • Vincedumond, I'm not sure if I understand the question. I assume you're not asking about that "sfn" or "harv" format? Because whenever I have to use that, I just copy what I see, or I ask Uncle G. Which edit/article/citation are you pointing to? Drmies (talk) 17:52, 17 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Hey, if I don't get back to you quickly, sorry--I found some plagiarism in that Hundred Years War article I have to deal with first. Drmies (talk) 17:55, 17 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
