Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Mubashir Chaudhry

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Mubashir Chaudhry, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

That would be an acceptable username, but please describe your connection to Universal Surgical Partners. 331dot (talk) 15:47, 22 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Cameron Davidson is my name, and I am an employee of Universal Surgical Partners, I created the account before realizing it cannot be associated with a company. I wish to finish writing an unbiased, objective article on Mubashir Chaudhry, I understand that Wikipedia 'discourages' writing about a subject you are anyway connected to, but I assure you it will not in anyway include opinion and will be verifiable. Thank you!
Would you agree to, upon being unblocked, make the required paid editing declaration? Just as information, the issue is not than an article might include opinion, but that an article should only summarize what independent reliable sources say about a person. No interviews with the person, no brief mentions, no press releases, or other primary sources. Most people in your position find that very difficult to do. 331dot (talk) 16:25, 22 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

I would be able to making that declaration. I apologize I find the guidelines regarding verifying information to be slightly confusing, would I be allowed to use a blog posted by an independent person that speaks about Dr. Chaudhry as a reference? I'm also assuming Dr. Chaudhry's personal website can not be used as a source? because it is not independent?

Blogs are not often considered reliable sources(please review the link) as they usually lack editorial control and fact checking. If it is just something like a patient or customer testimonial, that probably would not be considered a reliable source. What is needed are things like news stories or other publications that have a reputation of fact checking and editorial control, and have chosen on their own to give this person more than a brief mention in a story. Yes, a personal website would be a primary source and would not establish notability, though it could be used for some limited personal information(like date of birth) if no other source exists. 331dot (talk) 16:48, 22 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
You might find reading Your First Article helpful. 331dot (talk) 16:49, 22 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

I have read it and am still not too sure, it seems it is up to the moderators discretion what is a 'reliable' source. I can provide sources from news stations etc. which is reliable, but they are of him speaking about his own work in an interview style; so it goes with and against Wikipedia's recommendations at the same time. What would you recommend for me just trying to showcase his accomplishments and contributions to society such as philanthropy etc? +how would I properly cite things from his early life that didn't originate from his speech? It is a biography of course, lots of that information needs to come from him, and that isn't allowed.

Administrators("moderators") do not determine what is and is not a reliable source, the community as a whole does that. You can find a list of common sources evaluated for reliability at this link to get an idea. Biographies here do not have information that comes from the subject(beyond things like date of birth if necessary). We are interested in what published reliable sources say about a person, not what they say about themselves. People naturally speak favorably about themselves, and Wikipedia strives to be neutral. If the only publicly available sources are what he says about himself, he would not merit a Wikipedia article at this time. If he wants details about his early life somewhere, he could commission an author to write an authorized biography of him that can tell about those details. That author would then perform fact checking and have the work reviewed by an editor.
As for what I would recommend, if you just want to "showcase his accomplishments and contributions to society", you should use social media or other alternative forum where that is permitted. Wikipedia is not a showcase, it is just a content aggregator. 331dot (talk) 18:24, 22 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Okay thank you. You have been very helpful. I understand much more now how Wikipedia operates and shows content. I will do my best to find reliable independent sources to write the biography
