Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Tusf1. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Carmen Chu, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. SmartSE (talk) 23:15, 7 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello SmartSE, I'm actually a student at a near by University and I took a Public Administration class and part of the class was gathering information on multiple individuals that are currently holding office in San Francisco County. It was basically to see where they came from and their political career through the years and look at the leadership experience and things of that nature. During that time I saw that there was very little information on the article Carmen Chu. I thought it would be helpful to add some of the information I collected to make the article more complete for other users. I just went over some of the rules you shared with me.
Ok thank you for the explanation. I presumed you to have a conflict of interest because the article had previously attracted editors that were certainly linked to the subject, so it was natural to assume that you were also, especially given the nature of your edits. Totally understand the mix up, especially if it has occurred before. Just completed the Public Administration class so I wont have any further edits to make.
