Discretionary sanctions Notification - Balkans and Eastern Europe

edit

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in Eastern Europe or the Balkans. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

To opt out of receiving messages like this one, place {{Ds/aware}} on your user talk page and specify in the template the topic areas that you would like to opt out of alerts about. For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Request reason:

I can assure the community that I am not Edin balgarin, and I have no other accounts. Yes I take an interest in some of the same topics as you see, though if it is supected that there is stronger "technical evidence", then it's only because I use an open proxy. Just to clarify, their talkpage access is removed for a transphobic tirade and I am in real -life a staunch supporter of LGBTQ movements around the world, and their Kosovo opinion and mine did not match one little bit. I have already provided some details about myself on which is my Disqus forum account and it can clearly be seen that I have no similarity or connect to such a person. --Thelostranger (talk) 16:10, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Possilikely (a mix between possible and likely) based on checkuser evidence. Combined with behavioural evidence, I'm unwilling to lift the block. I'll note that I see no evidence of proxy use here. Yamla (talk) 16:49, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I am requesting this again and I wish to state this: I know the reason I have been blocked as a sock of Edin balgarin. I am operating from inside a range block where the tag says that this IP range is like a greatest hits of all the sockpuppeteers. I doubt now there is anybody who can make edits from this range. So I edited the Kosovo article. That doesn't mean my behaviour and theirs is the same? Just look at my last sentence and see their last ever contributions. They clearly present a homophobic/transphobic person who refused to call unspecified gender people as "they". That cannot possibly be me. And, our positions on Kosovo and how to write about its borders are totally opposed to each other. There is not one scarp of proof that I am them, or that I have any background regarding Bulgaria. So please, end this madness now, or tell me what you want from me to prove I am not Edin balgarin and not a transphobe. --Thelostranger (talk) 09:47, 8 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

I agree with   Possilikely (a mix between possible and likely) as a description of the technical evidence. There are quite a few strange coincidences in the behavior here that give me pause:

  • Although Thelostranger and Edin balgarin share the same range, their activities never overlap in time—this is suspicious because, if they were separate people, we might expect them occasionally to edit on the same days, for example.
  • Thelostranger's account was created about five days after Edin balgarin's second unblock request was declined, and their first actions are to edit Talk:Kosovo to take up the opposite position to Edin balgarin [1], even reaching out directly to Horse Eye's Back [2], with whom Edin balgarin was involved in a direct confrontation on the same talk page regarding the same text at issue [3].
  • There are certain aspects of Thelostranger's rhetoric that seem strange enough that this could be a case of WP:STRAWSOCK (i.e. creating an account and pretending to argue the opposite position in an irrational way to attempt to sway opinion to the opposite side). For example, here they tried to support their position by citing such sources as Wikitravel and Change.org (the latter caught by the spam blacklist, see [4]), and when they received a reply, their response was I don't need to respond LongLivePortugal as this one is over and you have long lost. [5]

There are a decent number of suspicious similarities and coincidences here that you would not expect if this were truly two editors sharing similar interests on the same range. In other words, the combination of behavioral and technical evidence push this over the line, in my eyes. Mz7 (talk) 01:46, 21 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Zzuuzz and Yamla: This unblock request has been pending for well over a week, and for obvious reasons most admins can't address it. Could you please comment here, or if necessary, arrange for the appeal to be reviewed on the checkuser-list? Thanks, Newyorkbrad (talk) 20:03, 20 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

I will take this to checkuser-list right away. --Yamla (talk) 21:55, 20 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
