October 2021 edit

Hello, I'm Serols. I wanted to let you know that one of your recent contributions—specifically this edit to Sportswear (fashion)—has been undone because it appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Help desk. Thank you. April 2022 edit

Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did at File:Ballet Shoes.jpg, you may be blocked from editing. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. The copyright of this image belongs to the photographer Gregory Michael King. I'm not sure what I did wrong here? The Vintage Quaintrelle (talk) 19:48, 2 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
You can ask at WP:TEAHOUSE if there is a proper way to indicate the photograph of the movie poster, but just placing external links to his website on the file and the article is not the way to go about it. I'll put a welcome template below this message which will provide helpful links to follow so you can learn about editing on Wikipedia. Schazjmd (talk) 20:28, 2 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the helpful links! I'm sorry if my external links looked like a spam. I simply wanted to credit the photographer. So much to learn here! The Vintage Quaintrelle (talk) 20:31, 2 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you once again for the link to the Teahouse! It turned out to be very helpful. I was advised to add the photographer's credit in the infobox, which I did.
Here is the exact reply to my post on the topic of crediting the author of the photograph of the movie poster for Ballet Shoes.
"Hello, The Vintage Quaintrelle, and welcome to the Teahouse. It would be good to add the artist's name on the file desciption page File:Ballet Shoes.jpg, and you can do this (without an external link). We do not normally credit photos where they are displayed, but if you have a reliable source that King was the photographer, you could edit the image caption in the infobox on Ballet Shoes (film). ColinFine" The Vintage Quaintrelle (talk) 21:46, 2 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
That's great! What is the source of your information that King was the photographer? Schazjmd (talk) 22:01, 2 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
I'm married to the photographer. The picture of Emma Watson in Ballet Shoes, and many other celebrities, is on the official website of Gregory Michael King. The Vintage Quaintrelle (talk) 22:28, 2 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
So the blog link that you added to articles (itsbeyondmycontrol.com) is your blog. Adding links to your own blog to articles would also be considered promotional. Also, blogs are not reliable sources. Schazjmd (talk) 22:38, 2 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
I'm a vintage fashion writer and one of the biggest collectors of CC41 clothing in the EU. I'm also a guest lecturer at several museums. I can reassure you that my blog is a very reliable source of information when it comes to the history of fashion popular in the 1930, 1940s and the 1950s. I pride myself on being extremely diligent in doing extensive research before I put pen to paper. There are many links on Wikipedia pointing to my website, but they were added by other people. This is precisely why I thought it would be ok for me to add few links to some of the most popular and well respected articles on my website. It was not my intention to violate the Wikipedia guidelines. If I did, I'm sorry, and again thank you for your assistant here. The Vintage Quaintrelle (talk) 23:41, 2 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
