WikiProject books tag

Hi there. I just removed an AWB-added wikiproject books tag you added to Talk:At Dawn in Rivendell. I thought it was not appropriate as it is actually a music album, not a book, but wanted to let you know in case you felt differently. Update: I do agree that the article should not have been tagged with the {{WPBooks}} banner and support your removal of it. Thank you for doing so. The problem was that the article was categorized too broadly, namely in both Category:Poetry by J. R. R. Tolkien and Category:English poetry. Why is American Mathematical Monthly considered part of WikiProject Books?

Hello Thadius856. After a quick glance at WP:BOOKS I don't understand why the AMM, a mathematical journal, is being assessed as though it is a work of literature. Can you explain further? Today you attached {{WPBooks}} to its Talk page. EdJohnston 03:11, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Update: This is because American Mathematical Monthly was in Category:Mathematical publication stubs, which I hadn't anticipated to contain scholarly journals, but rather stubs on mathematical books and their creation and processes. I've removed the entire category from my list of articles to tag, as well as filtered out anything that contains that word "journal" in the article name for good measure, regardless of what category it resides in. Db-author question

Hi -- I just removed a Db-author tag you placed on Talk:Bibliography of Damon Knight, and I noticed you'd also placed one on Talk:Bibliography of Andre Norton. I just wanted to check in with you to find out your reasoning -- G7 seems quite at odds with my understanding of the Knight biblio, and the Norton biblio is a detailed page too. Did you deliberately place them on the talk pages instead of the project pages? Just wanted to check, as I figured maybe I'm missing something. Mike Christie (talk) 22:43, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Update: I believe you missed my intent. My bot, Thadius856AWB, was tagging articles with {{WPBooks}} WikiProject banners for articles in specific categories. Bibliography of Damon Knight, which is a redirect, was located in one of these categories. Mistakenly, my bot tagged Talk:Bibliography of Damon Knight, thinking it was the talk page for the article, not for the redirect which points to a section in the Damon Knight article. As such, my bot created a page which is entirely useless, so I tagged them {{db-author}} as the best criteria I could find. To reiterate: the CSD was applied to the talk page of the redirect to the article section, not the talk page of the article itself. If you look at the history of these articles, I think it would explain things better than I could. thadius856_{talk|airports|neutrality} 22:50, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Well, perhaps it doesn't matter, as it appears these articles are now in the state I would expect to find them, but I still suspect there is a misunderstanding here. I don't think Bibliography of Damon Knight has ever been a redirect -- I created it and have kept an eye on it. It certainly isn't one now, and the history doesn't seem to show any redirect either. The talk page had never been used, but naturally doesn't need deleting. Is it possible your bot did something unexpected?

I also removed the {{Db-author}} tag from Talk:Bibliography of Andre Norton for the same reasons, though I didn't create that article. Again there seems no record of a redirect in the history.

I'm sorry if I'm being dense and am missing something obvious, but I really can't see the situation you describe in the history. Mike Christie (talk) 02:42, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

You're right in that they're not redirects, though the others I had mistakenly tagged were. My mistake. As for the histories, I'm referring to the histories of the talk pages themselves, not the articles, found here and here. They have no history before my accidental creation. Just for clarity, {{db-author}} would have the mistakenly created talk pages deleted, but the articles would have been left in their present conditions. thadius856_{talk|airports|neutrality} 03:05, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

And I was unaware that one could delete a page without deleting the talk page; hence I assumed that deleting the talk page would take down the article page too. Thanks for the info. When I went to warn a vandal today after reverting three attacks, I noticed that he had blanked your warning from December so I reverted that and listed all the attacks on his User talk page (User talk:76.187.181.172) with a new warning. One sheet in WikiProject Books?

Your bot has tagged Talk:One_sheet as part of WikiProject Books. Can you tell me why? I see no definition of one-sheet (either as a movie poster or a tear sheet for music publicity) falling under the WikiProject Books scope. Also, the one sheet page needs to be reorganized (disambiguation?) since the one sheet (film) definition is far more common and appropriate than the music definition -- the music definition should probably be removed entirely. Update: Not a problem. I just don't feel like being picked apart by the cabal. Update: No problem. You've correctly tagged the stub article and written a fairly good lead sentence. You just need to establish the notability of the subject in the second sentence: tell about any famous paintings that he did and wikilink them if possible. That is rather irritating. So what you're saying is that a first-time poster who puts something up and says it's a stub at dinnertime has to respond to a quick-delete within the hour? Great. Glad I didn't put any more time into it.

Update: Well, I can tell you that I tagged it with Criteria for Speedy Deletion A7 and that it was deleted for notability reasons. That much is obvious from the message I left on your talk page. Either the subject of the article did not meet Wikipedia's policy on notability or you did not establish notability of the subject in the article. Burning Rain

I just went through this with these Burning Rain (Burning Rain (album) and Pleasure to Burn (album)) articles. The guitarist is a member of Whitesnake, which makes him and any other band he's in notable. As a matter of fact, I tagged Burning Rain earlier and it was deleted, so I need to talk to Eagle101 and get that restored. It's kind of funny how we'd make the same mistake, huh? Update: I saw that you added the {{hangon}} tag. That's fine. However, when you add that tag, you replaced it over the original CSD template. Both should stay on the page when speedy deletion is contested, hence why I added it back. why did you mark this for speedy deletion, how do know that it is not notable? it could be and you just dont know it. it also took me quite some time to figure out to make everything the way it is, with this deletion business going on, i might be very disenclined to ever use wikipedia again, i have been a avid user of wikipedia for 2 years (not a registered but i use to look up info) i dont think its quite fair to delete my work if you have no relative idea of what my work is about, the wiki isnt even done yet just getting started

Update: The Criteria for Speedy Deletion A7 states that it is an article about a person, group of people, band, club, company or website that does not assert the importance or significance of the subject. RE: The Morionor page

Apparently whoever added them to the list of example bands for the Melodic Black Metal article months ago felt that they were "notable". I happen to live in the Atlanta area and I can attest that this band has a considerable underground following. What or whom deems something to be "notable"? This seems to be entirely a matter of personal opinion on behalf of the person (you) doing the deleting? If I find a polka band with a small article that I have zero interest in does that permit me to delete the article becuase it is not of interest to me? True the article is not very developed, I am not very skilled in the ways of Wikipedia yet so I was hoping if I just set up the basics someone with the know-how might come along later and fill out the missing parts, specifically the bar that goes along the right. If you intent to delete this article could you at least warn me before hand, I spent about half an hour collecting the information and figuring out how to format it so I would be annoyed if it all disappeared so quickly. Please don't get the impression I'm giving you a hard time, I'm just confused as to why one obscure band is notable while another which is just as obscure is not. Update: A few things you need to understand:

• What or whom deems something to be "notable"?

• That would be WP:MUSIC.

• This seems to be entirely a matter of personal opinion on behalf of the person (you) doing the deleting?

• I am not deleting anything. I am tagging the article for deletion, which an administrator must then review.

• If you intent to delete this article could you at least warn me before hand...

• I did not intend to delete it and am not required to notify for deletions under the Criteria for Speedy Deletion. Notification is only recommended for Articles for Deletion, though not required even then.

If you read closely the CSD tempalte it says that "...does not assert the notability of the subject". This does not mean that the subject is not notable, but rather that the creator did not tell what makes the subject notable as it pertains, in this case, to WP:MUSIC. Oh, so you don't delete the article - you just flag it and someone else deletes it five minutes later. I can see how that's completely different. Thanks for throwing the book at me, and for deleting my page before I had a chance to even log back in. Luckily from reading all the other people griping about how you deleted their pages (excuse me, flagged for deletion) I knew this was coming and saved it. Update: Correct, I did not delete it — nor do I have the power to actually delete any article. An administrator would have to review and agree with my assessment in order for the article to be deleted. The volume of messages on my talk page means relatively little, given the volume of New Pages patrol I do. Rarely is anybody happy to see an article go, but Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information and, as such, notability guidelines need to be observed. Had notability been established in the article when it was created, this discussion would never have existed. Update: I agree that a large amount of well-rounded text in one fell swoop is a good indicator of copy and paste action. However, it is not proof of such. I've written a few articles where I could imagine somebody saying the same about my work.
