Copying within Wikipedia edit

Thanks for identifying the source of the material in your edit.

This type of edit does get picked up by Copy Patrol and a good edit summary helps to make sure we don't accidentally revert it. However, for future use, would you note the best practices wording as outlined at Wikipedia:Copying_within_Wikipedia? In particular, adding the phrase "see that page's history for attribution" helps ensure that proper attribution is preserved.

I've noticed that this guideline is not very well known, even among editors with tens of thousands of edits, so it isn't surprising that I point this out to some veteran editors, but there are some t's that you need to be crossed.S Philbrick(Talk) 11:21, 9 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Cathal Ó Searcaigh controversy edit

Hi, I understand your wish to highlight the episode 15 years ago when the whole of the chattering classes in Ireland had an opinion. Now however the controversy has faded and it overbalances the narrative to make too much of it -- after all, extensive investigation led to no charges and the argument centred on conflicting opinion, not fact. I had previously considered removing the Dermod Moore interview, and discussed it with colleagues but the discussion ran into the sand. Now I have to admit, and agree, that if a negative reference is not included, neither should a positive one -- it's better to leave out both. I hope you appreciate the reasoning. The mention of charity work in Nepal has been removed too -- although factual, there's no quotable citation to confirm it.

I've done the same in the Vicipéid article. I know you had some other edits there; they seemed trivial compared with the Kathmandu issue, e.g. 'duine' for 'scríbhneoir' etc, but if you feel strongly about these then I wouldn't oppose them being reinstated.
