Jacob Kirkegaard

I have reverted your edits on Jacob Kirkegaard because they added copyright material from another website. This is wholly unacceptable on Wikipedia.  Velella  Velella Talk   21:45, 7 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add or change content, as you did at Jacob Kirkegaard, by copying material from another website. Thank you.  Velella  Velella Talk   21:51, 7 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello Velella, The website I am copying from is my own! www.fonik.dk is my own website about my sound works. I am running fonik.dk and I am the only webmaster on this page. I was updating wikipedia's page by copying from MY OWN text on my website because it was outdated. There is therefore no copyright claims.

Please revert your reversion so my update becomes active. Thank you

We need to have documentation that shows the copyright holders have given permission for the material to be copied to this website. Wikipedia has procedures in place for this purpose. Please see WP:Donating copyrighted materials for an explanation of how to do it. There's a sample permission email at WP:Consent. Regardless of the copyright issue, material you might use on your own website is very unlikely to be suitable for inclusion in a Wikipedia article.
A second problem is conflict of interest. Working on an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. Editing a biography about yourself is acceptable only if you are removing unambiguous vandalism or clear-cut and serious violations of our biography of living persons policy. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 11:46, 8 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Copy right violations

edit

I will try and be as specific as I can be. Much of the content that you have added derives from this website. On this website there is no information about licensing and so, following wikipedia's rules, it is assumed to be copyright. Any copying or close paraphrasing is thus a copyright violation. This is not negotiable unless all the material is licensed with a licence compatible with Wikipedia or the copyright is donated to Wikipedia - see donating copyright. Secondly, Wikipedia has no evidence at to your identity of relationship with the subject of the article. You may be the same person, you may be his agent, a relative, a paid editor or simply another editor. We have no means of verifying that you are who you say your are. So will I revert my text deletion - no I will not.  Velella  Velella Talk   11:15, 8 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your response. Well, while I understand that copyright claims have to be respected I find it unfortunate that it is so difficult to correct outdated information about my own person. As you can see on my website (the link that you link to) it is about the same person. The wikipedia page even refers to that very website (fonik.dk) So why would it infringe of any copyright? As you can see on fonik.dk I've made no copyright claim to my bio. Furthermore I don't understand why you also delete my updated discography?

So one last question; would I be able to update the text if I change the words slightly from my bio on the fonik.dk web page? FYI I have no clue who uploaded the initial information about me on wikipedia and I've for a long time been wanting to correct it so it corresponds is actually correct. I respect your justified attempt to keep up with copyright but I also hope that the system isn't so rigid that one can't even correct misleading or false information.

PS. You're rightly claiming that you cannot know that I am actually me. But I would hereby like to prove that I am me and the actual owner / webmaster of my own website. Please have a look at the link you were referring to. I have uploaded a little greeting to you at the bottom; http://fonik.dk/about.html

If you add content in your own words which are clearly different from the web-site and you can back up the key points with truly independent and reliable sources, there should be no problem. However, if you are indeed the subject of the article, that is going to be very difficult - this is one of the reasons that writing an autobiography is strongly discouraged as already indicated above by Diannaa. For what little it may be worth, I share your query about why this was created in the first place as in its current version it shows no evidence of notability and is a prime candidate for deletion. To prevent that happening you will need to find several reliable and independent sources that discuss the subject (you) - please see general notability guidelines for more information on notability.  Velella  Velella Talk   12:56, 8 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Velella, thanks very much for clarification, it makes sense what you're saying that it shouldn't be me who updates information about myself. It is my first time here and for years I've been wanting to correct the false (outdated or not precise) information about me.
